Classification: Query
Surnames: Emerson, Stinson, Stimpson
I am desperate for any information on my great-great-grandfather, William S. Emerson, born supposedly April 1873, in Waterville, ME. He died in 1904, at age 31, in Charleston, SC. The "S" in his name is said to be either Stinson or Stimpson, even Stimson.
We know for a fact his family is from Waterville - an uncle from Waterville ended up in SC, and had signed his death notice. We cannot figure out who his parents are - as his uncle and aunt both had the last name "Emerson" and a fairly large family (thinking if the uncle had the same last name, then of course it would be a sibling, etc). Hard to figure out where he'd belong. All we know is he was in Boston in 1896, and in Charleston by 1898 and died in 1904. All we have is a death certificate and one photo of him.
Can't find anything really in the 1880 census that matches him, and of course, 1890 is missing - that would be the one piece to the puzzle.
If you have this book, could you please contact me at

I'll even pay you for any info!! We've been searching for almost ten years now.
thanks!!
