I am looking for any information on Alice Martin Clark Bishop (1612-1648), my tenth great-grandmother, convicted of the murder of her daughter, Martha Clark (1643-1648). She was hanged in October 1648 and was the first woman hanged in America. I am curious about her life, ancestry, and finding records that detail the crime that might help explain questions I have about the case. At the present time I am trying to keep an open mind over her guilt or innocence--although at present my questions deal more with inconsistency in present records I have seen or lack of details in those records. I would be delighted to speak with other descendants, I have met several interested in the case who have been very helpful with source material. I am also interested in what original and primary sources are available. Alice was hanged in Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts.

PS I am descended from Alice's daughter Damaris (1646-1682) who married William Sutton (1641-1718). Our family left Massachusetts to New Jersey to Pennsylvania and finally Ohio.
