There SHOULD be a birth record for Florence that reflects that 1/2/1901 date and it may tell you something if it can be found. By 1901 vital records were reported pretty consistently in Massachusetts and an adoption might show up as an ammended/corrected entry but would be visible in somw way. I would keep looking for variations of Florence, Tower, etc., because I would expect to be able to find something.
