I found a list of the crew on the whaling ship Acushnet for its maiden voyage departure on Jan 3, 1841 from New Bedford. This was Herman Melville's first whaling ship voyage.

From The Whaling Years of Herman Melville, Wilson Heflin, page 26

“Officers:
...Frederic Raymond, first officer, (living) Nantucket, (born) Nantucket, (age) 37, 5’ 11”, light, brown, (lay) 1/42,(date of signing ships articles) 12-20-1840 (witness) Henry F Hubbard.…”

According to my family history records and the Nantucket Historical Association genealogy database, there was a Frederick Raymond born in Nantucket July 4, 1801, son of Benjamin and Betsy KIDDER. The evidence suggests that this is the same Frederick. Is there any way I can confirm it?

Here are some of the other facts that might lead to an obituary or other reference that would confirm, that Frederic(k), born 1801 was a mariner.:

Frederick died in San Francisco on May 27, 1847. He is buried in the Newtown Cemetery in Nantucket.

His wife, Susan ALLEN, died on Sept 8, 1883. I believe that she died in Nantucket. She is buried next to Frederick in the Newtown Cemetery, Nantucket

Frederick S Raymond is the son of Frederick and Susan. He was listed in his marriage record as a mariner. I found one other reference to him as a Captain of the ship Peruvian. He died on June 12, 1886.

Thank you very much.
