I am just starting my search. My mother-in-laws Grandparents came over from the Azores. Her name was Filomena Garcia d.12/14/1937 m. 7/22/1876 John Machado @ age 16? John d. 2/17/1940. He changed his name to Silva. I don't know if the change was before or after they left the Azores.
They settled in Northern California.
