I am super new at this and not very good yet, but did have family from Portugal landing in Boston. I have heard they are in Rhode Island also. Last names so far are Lourenco and Pereira(which they changed to Perry)Let me know about your book.

My GG grandfather landed in Boston in 1855, he died in Truro, Ma. in 1891. He was born in Pico, Azores and took a liverpool ship named Pomona. Hope this helps.

Helen:
I read with great interest your plans to complete a trilogy of Anzorean immigration to Hawaii, the U.S. east coast and into California. My wife and I would be interested in seeing the first in the series, and as you get to California, would be happy to supply you with our information.

There is a book on the portuguese families of Martha's Vinyard that has been very helpful in my quest in uncovering my ancestry!

My great grandfather, Manuel P. Soares came to MA in 1907 with his sister Mary Soares. They were the children of Manuel A. Soares and Maria doe Anjos. Manuel P. Soares married Margarida Medieros Estrella dau of Joao M. Estrella and Margarida Julia Prudencia in 1908 in New Bedford. They had their first child in 1909 in New Bedford by the name of Lillian Soares. All of the rest of the children were born in Oaks Bluff. Claire b 1911, Albert P. b 1913, Eugenia b 1915 and my grandfather b 1916. I have much much more information on all of this and would love to share when you get to that point! My email is Kellybou2004@yahoo.com
