If your ancestors settled in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York in the 1800s, and came from the Azores and Madeira, please contact me. I am planning a book about the Portuguese immigrants who settled on the East Coast. I have just completed a book about those who settled in Hawaii, which will be published both in the Portuguese and English language. My maiden name is Craveira (actually Craveiro), and many Craveiros are listed in the census of Massachusetts. Any and all info will be appreciated. Helen Craveira Tice

My gg-gmother's parents came to the US around 1875. My gg-gmother (Josephine L. Borgess) was born in Hanson, Plymouth, MA abt 1879, she also had a sister that was about 5 yrs younger (Laura Borgess). She married Frank Hatch in 1900. I believe her fathers name was John Borges(s), he came from the Azores. Family story is that he worked in the cranberry boggs.
I would be very interested in hearing any info you my come across that might be of any help to me.

Dear Mark ~ My grandmother, Olive Hatch was daughter of Merton Hatch - The Hatch family arrived on the second ship of Plymouth Colony, the Hercules (maybe brother/cousin to your Frank Hatch?) My Olive Hatch married Manuel Caton, of Azores Island fishermen descent - his parents arriving about the same time as your Borgess family. Interesting crossover of information between us . . . hmmmm.

Ms. Tice. I am very interested in your book project. I have copied thousands of records from Provincetown, Mass over a 30 year period ,wanting the Portuguese of which I am a descendant to be recognized for so many of their accomplishments. . Both of my great grandparents came from the Azore Islands. Could you please tell me what kind of information you are after (is it birth marriages and death) or articles on their lives after they lived in the United States. One thing I did notice in copying the old newspapers is how blackballed the portuguese were. Anyway e-mail me if this is of interest.
