My maiden name is Valente. I know that my grandparents arrived in Hawaii in 1911/12 from Portugal but can't find any other info. My great-great grandmother's maiden name was Katner, her son, my great grandfather was Antone Valente, he married Annie Cardoza, they are the parents of my grandfather Jack(Joaquin) Valente, who married my grandmother Mary Selmos. Her parents were Frank(Francisco) Selmos and Maria Francisca Catano(Caitano). I would appreciate any info concerning these lines in Portugal. The Selmos's were apparently from Lisbon, and the Valente's from Moita, and possibly the Azores. The boat that they took from Hawaii to San Francisco was called the Itaria(I'm guessing at the spelling) and arrived in the fall of 1921. I do not know the name of the boat they took from Portugal to Hawaii.
