I realize it's been a decade since you posted your query but, in case you're still interested, I'm descended from Daniel YOUNG, Hendrick STALEY and Rachel VAN HOESEN, and their earliest ancestors in America ~ Hendrick STALEY (1712-1782) and Jan Franz VAN HOESEN (1608-1667).

I have U.S. Federal Census records, church marriage & baptismal records, wills, and military records attached to the individuals in my BAGGOTT-YOUNG and STALEY-VAN HOESEN family trees. Just look 'em up on Ancestry.com and help yourself.

I found the father of my Peleg Briggs. His father was David Briggs and his mother was Mary Collins, daughter of Samuel Collins. The 1850 census spelled Briggs as Brigs. Mary was listed as Polly.

Known siblings: James Robert, David, Peleg, Nancy, Cynthia?

Possible siblings: Ann, Mary, George, Samuel

Mother Mary, Siblings James, David, Peleg, Nancy ended up in Calhoun or Montcalm county Michigan.

I have a lead that they may be related to Samuel and Silas Briggs, but nothing definite.

We would loved to share information. You have found information that we have not. The information we have on William and Amancy we believe is accurate but mainly verified by census and Family Search site information.
William and Amancy had a son named John. John married a Martha Warner and they had 2 sons, Arthur and James. Unfortunately, John was wounded and died during the Civil War. We have just confirmed the date this year and think we have found him buried in the Arlington National Cemetery. Martha remarried and the sons took the surname of her new husband, Ebenezer Armstrong.
We look forward to talking again.
I am descended from William Crowter and Amancy Gifford. I've recently recieved information that William's parents were Robert Crowter and Ruth Harmon, who are both buried in Columbia Co., NY. I was told that Robert is a grandson of William Crowder b 1730 who was the Loyalist, but I haven't been able to find documentation on the connection. I also haven't been able to piece together the family of Crowter's in Columbia Co., NY. I'm willing to share inforamtion. Please email me at manatee267@yahoo.com.

Don't have info on John except they were in the NY Fulton co census. Ada was born Woodruff, married a Scherer in Ohio 1917 and he died in 1947. Wondering if there is a obit of John Hanson or Ada in Fulton co New York?

Do you know if William Crowter who was married to Amancy Gifford was descended from either the mid-18th century family in Columbia County who were Patriots in the war, or the Orange County family who were Loyalists and emigrated to Ontario after the war with the U.E.L.? Descendants of the latter seem to have returned to NY via St. Lawrence Cty after the War of 1812. The spelling of the surnames are all mixed up, alternately spelled Crouther(s), Crowder(s), Crowther(s), Krauter, Crouder/ Crouter as well as Crowter, but there are tons of William's James' and Robert's in every generation, back to the time of the Palatine immigration at the beginning of the 18th century. I've been told that the Crowter's of Northampton were of English (Norman) stock and even Native American, but the tradition in my family (my great-great grandfather was Robert V. Crowter) was that they were German, and thinking back to my childhood in that area, the descendants of my grandmother's cousins certainly married Germans and looked German to me. Do you have any opinion about this?

Mary Ann [Cole] was married to John Manzer in Benson where they lived adjacent to the Hunter's, Anibal's and the Sloan's. Her parents surname "Sloan" may be due to the fact that Rueben Sloan was possibly her stepfather since Hannah Sloan and Mary Ann both hail from VT while he was born in MA or NY. In fact, in the 1850 Census, as neighbors of John and Mary Ann Manzer, Reuben and Hannah Sloan are associated with family members: Elisabeth Cole 26 NY, Ellis Cole 24 f NY, Timothy Cole 21 NY, as well as the younger Sloan children (Census 1850: Hamilton Co. NY. Hope pg. 14, fam 210 Hannah Sloan, age 56). In 1860, after John Manzer has died, Mary Ann [Cole] Manzer and her younger children live with the Sloan's, except the eldest, Mary Manzer, who lived next door with the Hunter's (she later married William Hunter). Hope this helps. It is possible that the Sloan's were just being neighborly, but extrapolating from a preponderance of the evidence, this is my best guess. Anybody else have any ideas?

I think you may have misread my post: "Manzer, Clarence; b. Jun. 4, 1885 d. Jun. 16, 1956; Son of John Wesley "Johnny" and Mary Jane [Blodgett] Manzer of Benson. Great grandson of Henry Y. Manzer. Married Katherine [Knowles] in 1906 and moved to Gloversville where he was employed as a shipping clerk at the Holden Lumber Co. Children: i. Clarence Burton (1908); ii. Marion G. (1911); and iii. Geraldine (1914)."

John Wesley Manzer was born Mar 1844, Town of Hope, Hamilton Cty, NY the son of John & Mary Ann (COLE) MANZER, whose other children, siblings of John Wesley, were: i. Mary Jane (1842) who married William HUNTER; and ii. Hannah (1849). John was one of the twin sons of Henry Y. & Martha [SWEET] MANZER. Mary Ann was the daughter of Ruben and Hannah SLOAN. John Wesley was a farmer who settled in Benson, Hamilton Cty, NY soon after marriage on 4 May 1869 to Mary Jane [BLODGETT], and where they remained throughout their lives. Mary Jane [BLODGETT], known as “Jane” was a glovemaker, born 27 Nov 1853, the daughter of Deforest (b:17 AUG 1813 in Ashfield, Franklin Cty, MA) & Elizabeth Elvira [REYNOLDS] BLODGETT (b:17 MAR 1819). Children of John Wesley and Mary Jane [BLODGETT] MANZER: i. Cora M.(1872); ii. Charles W. (1874); iii. Roland “Rolla” (1876); iv. Forest “Gaud” (1878); and v. Clarence (1885). I hope this makes it a bit clearer.

Hello,
I'm looking for more information about the DOLMAN family, resident from 1885 to 1967 in Gloversville. Maybe, there are still relatives living of Joseph and Lena Dolman or their children Roy and Louise Dolman?

JOSEPH DOLLMAN and LENA DOLLMAN (maiden name was WESSELS) married in 1885:
- Joseph Dollman was borne in 1863 in Germany. He died in 1922 and was buried in the family plot (of the Wessels or Dolman's ?) at St. Patricks Cemetary in Johnstown, N.Y.!
- Lena (or Lenna) Wessels was borne in 1863 in New York as a daughter of Germans.

They had at least 2 children:
1. Roy Dolman (or Leroy Dolman), born 8/11/1889 in Gloversville and
2. Louise Dollman.
- Roy Dolman was buried at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown, N.Y.
- About Louise I don't know anything. I've only got a letter written by her about the funeral of her father, that she send to her aunt (my great-grandmother) in 1922.

Can anyone give me more information about the Dollman's, please? Thanks in advance for your efforts!

Regards
Michaela

Manzer Family at the Gifford Valley Cemetery

My brother and I are preparing short bios for the individuals buried at the referenced cemetery to post on the find-a-grave website. Here is the data for the Manzer family (which is actually my own family). In addition to any errata, we would particularly like to hear about the burial location of related individuals so we can photograph and link their gravesites with their kin.

*Manzer, Henry Y.; b. 27 Feb 1794 Town of Schodack, Rensselaer Cty, NY d. Feb. 14, 1872 Mayfield, NY; Son of the centenarian, John & Martha [Conyers] Manzer of Otsego Cty who briefly lived in Northampton Twp following the Revolutionary War with John's elder brother Lawrence and their families. Henry is sometimes attributed as a much younger son of his Uncle Lawrence, a Revolutionary War Veteran, & Elizabeth Manzer. Note also that Henry's middle initial is often shown as "Z." as it is on his headstone (inverted), but the documents of his christening at the Dutch Reformed Church indicate that his initial should be "Y." During his long life, Henry alternately lived on the Manzer family home farms in Benson near Cathead Mtn, Hamilton Cty, NY; in Gifford Valley in Northampton Twp; on the Mountain Road in the Town of Mayfield, Fulton Cty, NY; and also elsewhere in the area -- where he engaged in vegetable and dairy farming, as well as lumbering, while he raised a large family with his wife, Martha [Sweet] who is also buried here. Children: i. Infant son (1816) who died as a baby and is buried in Benson; ii. Myron C. (1818) who married Judith [Porter], raised their family on the home farm in Benson, and is also buried here; iii./iv.
Correction: Lelia "Lena" [Manzer] (1897) was Barnet Lawrence Manzer's sister, not his wife. She was the 1st wife of Darwin Wadsworth, as noted. Sorry about that.

We don't have any Lynn's at Gifford Valley. The Northampton Twp was carved out of Broadalbin around 1800 and Fulton County was created from Montgomery (formerly Tryon) County around 1835, by my recollection. Both the Gloversville and Johnstown Public Libraries have extensive genealogical data, so you may want to contact the librarians there for help. I live in SF, CA so it's impossible for me to do it for you. Cheers, JOS.
