Another online Family genealogy bookstore is born and they are pretty good in the way they market their products. Beside the fact that they have very high quality products, they have a perfect bound soft cover and a hardback format of the rarest books available to researchers, their books are cheap compared to other online bookstore but what make them unique is that they send you with each book order the searchable pdf format on a CD of the book that you order and the CD also contains their catalog. I am a critique for an online blog and I shall not say its name here and I must say that they are very impressive.

I ordered a couple of books from them and I was very pleased with their service and their product.

I know that I sound like I am trying to promote them but I am just trying to give them what is due to them, acknowledgment.

Their Web address is:

www.ancestralbooks.com
We found this is WorldConnect.
We have checked our selves, and Diane Ham, the Mendon historian, has written quiet a lot of the history of the town. We regret that we do not have all of her great works here yet, but they would be in the Mendon library and of course in her office.

Sigh. Birth certificates (and marriages and deaths) were not kept by the state until 1881. Localities may have some from the time period 1847-1848, but back in the 1820s and before church records are it.

Of course, eastern NY places have records going back before then, since they were settled as early as the 1600s.

As far as a young child being put in an orphanage, there may be court records (in Family Court, Surrogate's Court etc). which mention the placement. The Rochester Orphan Asylum is listed at 605 Monroe Ave in the 1906 city directory.

Orphanages are generally county level institutions. Maybe the county historian (or even the state archives, for the old records) have those from 100 years ago.

Fellow researchers:

I thought you all should be aware of the serious illness that Dick Halsey is experiencing. I (and others) received a message last night from our former president of the Rochester Genealogical Society that Dick had had a massive heart attack last Friday, was in critical condition and on a respirator. I attempted to learn his condition today by calling the hospital (Unity Hospital,1555 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY 14626). Someone was supposed to call me back to tell me if he had received heart bypass surgery or some other procedure, but I never received that call. Tonight, another RGS member wrote this message:

"I just got off the phone with Dick Halsey's nurse. Because of all the laws, there was not much that she could say over the phone. He is out of the ICU and into a room on the respirator floor. His condition is listed as satisfactory but the nurse said he is not out of the woods and to be sure to keep him in your prayers. I had hoped to get over there tonight but I had an appointment immediately after work. If anyone has additional information, please pass it on."

I believe that Dick is, and has been the Systems Administrator for this Message Board and the Monroe County E-mail List. He also created and administers the Monroe County, NY Genealogy Web Site (www.mcnygenealogy.com). For those of you familiar with this site, you undoubtedly appreciate the wealth of information found there, as I do. I can't begin to list all the contributions to the genealogical community Dick has made over the years. I, and I'm sure all readers of this message hope for his speedy and full recovery.

When I was looking up John and Pearl's Marriage certificate I noticed that Pearl's mother's name was Mamie (Mary) Brown and I thought the name of her father was Shield. However, the spelling below matches your spelling.
NOTE: George's age is 22 putting his birth date about 1881.
Rick H

Page Number 158
Date of Marriage 06/23/1903
Husband's First Name GEORGE
Husband's Middle Name J
Husband's Last Name SCHILDS
City ROCHESTER
State NY
Husband's Age 22
Husband's Color W
Husband's Occupation TAILOR
Husband's Birth Place CITY
Husband's Birth State NY
Husband's Father's First Name EDWARD
Husband's Father's Middle Name -
Husband's Father's Last Name -
Husband's Mother's First Name MINNIE
Husband's Mother's Maiden Name
Husband's Mother's Last Name SCHUCK
Husband's Number of Marriages 1
Wife's First Name MAMIE
Wife's Middle Name
Wife's Maiden Last Name BROWN
Residence/City CITY
Residence_State -
Wife's Age 21
Wife's Color W
Wife's Birth Place CITY
Wife's Birth State -
Wife's Father's First Name JOHN
Wife's Father's Middle Name
Wife's Father's Last Name
Wife's Mother's First Name TERESA
Wife's Mother's Middle Name
Wife's Mother's Maiden Name FRANK
Wife's Number of Marriages 1
Marriage Official's Name J B TRAVIS
Marriage Official's Position
Where Recorded
Roll Number 2

> Subject: [NYMONROE] Looking for information on Pearl Schild and her father George Schild
>

>
> I'm having problems finding information on my Grandmother Pearl Schild Lingg and her parents.
We looked at the 1920 census, and see that George Schild - enumerated as SHIELD - is living with his sister Lucy Benwitz and her husband William. Also there is Philip Shield, the brother/uncle to Pearl. Since the same people are living together in 1910 - William, Lucy and Philip - while Pearl is in the orphanage, one may think that George was elsewhere, such as being incarcerated or working out of the city.

William Benwitz and Lucy Shield/Schild seem to have been married in 1908 - and that should give Lucy's, Philip's, and George's parents names.

The 1900 census shows:

1900 United States Federal Census
about Philip Schield
Name: Philip Schield
Home in 1900: Rochester Ward 17, Monroe, New York
Age: 15
Birth Date: Mar 1885
Birthplace: New York
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relationship to Head of House: Boarder
Father's Birthplace: New York
Mother's Birthplace: New York
Marital Status: Single
Residence : Rochester City, Monroe, New York
Household Members:
Name Age
John Englert 55
Amelia Englert 48
George M Englert 27
Arthur A Englert 20
Ida N Englert 15
Elenora G Englert 13
Philip Schield 	15 [boarder}
Amelia Werner 71

I've come to a dead end with my Great Grandmother Rose Breunig Eisenmenger and her family. I found in the census up to 1910 on Rose and her Father Frank who remarried and Rose and just one of her other sister Lula. In 1900 Rose had two sisters Lula and Theresa and a mother Mary but I can't find out what happened to her mother and other sister. Nor can I find Frank with his family prior to 1900. Any help to get me started again would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ruth in Buffalo, NY

Many thanks for that quick response. The Monroe County Library has some fine resources; unfortunately, long distance anyway, everything is "pay to view". $10 for scan of a paid newspaper death notice -- which might not be the right relative -- is a bit more than my budget. Hence, my request for a local lookup of available or another Jackson-ite seeing this note.

Fultonhistory is a great site but in this instance I wasn't able to find a link. Hopefully the Rochester papers will be digitized down the road ...

Searching www.fultonhistory.com for the surname Huycke, we found an interesting article which says, among other things, that Ms. Cora Beatrice Huycke had a child in August of 1923, in Belleville ON, and the father was Thomas H Logan also of Belleville. It appeared in a Binghamton NY newspaper in 1924. You should read it for more details, as the matter mentioned therein is somewhat sensitive.

Immigrated to Rochester, NY from England in 1949. Mother's name was Katherine B. Huycke. My grandmother's first name was Beatrice, unsure of last name; maybe Floyd. Grandmother's maiden name was Potts. She was from England also. Only information I am sure of, is we briefly stayed at Grandmother's house at 24 Edmonds St,Rochester, before moving on to Perry, NY. If someone could shed some light, or steer me in a better direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Stevens (can't find which is right). My grandfather George O. Stevens was born Nov, 17, 1880. Nettie's 2nd marriage was in 1902 in Cleveland,Ohio to John Tibolt (I have marriage cert with the name of Nettie). Have no idea when Mary and Peter moved from Canada to Rochester.

You might want to try searching the Rochester Library's Life Records page to see if they have an obit indexed against his name: http://www2.libraryweb.org/index.asp?custom=liferecords&...

or you can write to them and they can check the microfilmed newspapers for an obit if it appeared. There would be a fee for this service.

We posted the entry for the only Burke family in Rochester in the 1880 census, which does not include a Nettie or young woman named Burke of about 19 years of age - whiuch she should be if she were born in 1861. But there is a MARY Burke, aged 19 living in Rochester with a George Page and his wife Maggie. She is a sister in law to George.
-----
1880 United States Federal Census
about Mary Burke
Name: Mary Burke
Home in 1880: Rochester, Monroe, New York
Age: 19
Estimated birth year: abt 1861
Birthplace: New York
Relation to Head of Household: Something other than a direct relationship (Other)
Father's birthplace: Ireland
Mother's birthplace: Ireland
Neighbors: View others on page
Occupation: Mach. Operator
Marital Status: Single
Race: White
Gender: Female

So, when did she move to Ohio? Before or after her marriage? What was her first married name there? Did she get married in Ohio or NY? What was her second married name? But the underlying fact is that there is no birth certificate for any time before 1881.

The Nettie Sears we mentionedis the only Nettie born in 1861 in New York living in Cleveland in 1880.And she's single with no son.

Hi

fultonhistory.com had the following:

From the Lyons NY Republican,
Friday, 30 January 1914
Lyman Marshall of Honeoye Falls was the guest of his brother, Dr. H.E. Marshall Saturday.

There was also an article from the Democrat & Chronicle, from 1947 regarding their mother, Mrs. Frances Marshall of Cohocton, on her 92nd birthday. It mentions that she had 10 children (lists some names)and her husband died about 20 years earlier.

You might want to checkout the site.

Regards
George in Rochester NY
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity!

A couple of suggestions:

Try the online newspaper index 1818-1897, at:
http://www2.libraryweb.org/orgMain.asp?orgid=650

Try the local hisotrians:
Honeoye Falls, (Village of), Anne Bullock, 5 East Street, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472, (585) 624-1711 and Mendon, (Town of)
Diane Ham, 16 W. Main Street, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472
(585) 624-6060,historian@townofmendon.org

The 1855 census of Mendon has:
Lyman Marshall, age 30, born Ontario County, here (Mendon) 3 months
Lydia, aged 30, wife, no place of birth given, here 3 months
Winfield S, aged 2, born Livingston County, here 3 months.

This imputes that Lyman was born to his parents in 1825 (or so), an that they were living in Ontario County at that time. But Monroe County was not formed until 1821, so before that it was Ontario).

The 1820 federal census has:
Abijah Marshall Mendon, Ontario, New York 1820
Abner Marshall Phelps, Ontario, New York 1820
Elisha Marshall Lyons, Ontario, New York 1820
Francis Marshall Sparta, Ontario, New York 1820 (later Livingston Co)
Joshua Marshall Gorham, Ontario, New York 1820
Robert Marshall Sparta, Ontario, New York 1820
and the 1830 has:
Record
Jacob Marshall Seneca, Ontario, New York
View Record
Martha Marshall Gorham, Ontario, New York
View Record
Nathaniel Marshall Richmond, Ontario, New York

but the Martha Marchall in Gorham in 1830 does not have a boy of the correct age (less than 5)

My dear friends of Monroe County,

I am writing in hopes that someone might be able to help me finally solve an important missing link in my family history (the line from which I have received my last name). My predicament is as follows:

I know that I descend through Lyman Marshall, born abt. 1826 in Monroe. He died in 1892. Both his son and grandson that are my ancestors also lived in the Honeoye Falls/Rush/Mendon/East and West Bloomfield areas, and many are buried in the Honeoye Falls cemetery.

The problem:

I have no idea who the parents of Lyman Marshall are. However, I do have a suspicion. Through a series of deductions, it seems to me that my ancestor is a certain Norris Marshall, who died in 1830 at a young age. My next suspicion is that Norris is the son of Abijah Marshall. These deductions are based on censuses, all being buried in the Honeoye Falls cemetery, and a g-grandfather's brother being named Lyman Norris Marshall.

The plea!:
Is there anyone in the area that knows of a way to confirm this suspicion? I would really appreciate any help I can get, as I am currently a student in Virginia who will not likely have the means to make a trip to New York soon.

Thank you for any help,

Craig

So Cappobianca could be spelled any number of ways. Have you tried contacting these folks:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nypip25/, which is a local Italian American genealogy group.
