Seeking information on the Pawlowski family of Syracuse NY and Stanislaw Gasiewski. Specifically: how did Stanislaw end up in Syracuse (he immigrated in 1899), John Pawlowski: when did he immigrate,is there an obit for him? What is Julia's maiden name? What happened to Mary, Suzanne and John? Here's what I know:
John Pawlowski immigrated from Poland/Russia – date unknown.
About 1882 he married a woman named Julia (Ilya) They had 4 children: Mary b. abt 1883, Anna b 1886, Suzanne b. abt 1887 and John b 1891. Between 1890-92 the family lived at 204 Basin St, Syracuse. John is listed as a laborer. John probably died about 1893/94. Julia remarried to John Faris about 1895. John Faris and Julia had a son, John.
Daughter Anna married Stanislaw Gasiewski at Sacred Heart Church in July 1903. Stanislaw was the choir director of the church. Anna sang in the choir. This leads me to believe that the Pawlowski's were members of the Sacred Heart Parish.
I just received the wills of Nathan Baker 1760-1836 and his son, Simeon Baker 1790-1838. Nathan came abt 1795 to Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY "Elder Nathan Baker is credited with "starting this church and was its first pastor. The first meeting was held (probably in his home) December 8, 1797." from the Manlius Town Historian .
1803 His only daughter, Lucy died and was buried at Pompey age 6 years. Her grave stone still stands.
1807 Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY "Lake Missionary Society," founded at his house Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY, where he preached for 32 years, he founded the First Baptist Church and Society in Manlius and Pompey.
1829 moved to Rega or Chili, Monroe Co., N.Y.
died 1836 New information leading me to Akron, Erie County, New York was found at Find A Grave website I had only known he was last living in Rega/Chili, Monroe Co., NY. He was not buried with his wife, Lucy there. His son Simeon's will names someone that I hadn't known before. His estate papers dated 1838 names a son, Daniel J. Baker about 12 yrs old. (son of Simeon) That is the only thing I know as yet, however, I did find a possible lead in the following and was hoping that someone might know more. It seemed promising as his brother, Simeon Baker was listed as Age: 31 born abt 1819 New York Gender: Male Occ: Gold Hunter in the 1850 United States Federal Census Clarence, Erie, New York. For more info see Family tree located at Rootsweb and Ancestry.com

TODD VALLEY CEMETERY
Placer County, California
Daniel J.Baker born May 2, 1827	Born,Pompey,Onondaga,NY Died,Dardanelle's,CA Feb 25,1861

Gladys Hardy

Not much information on her. She is listed as Gladys Curtis on her mother's obit in 1933

On the 1930 Census I found a George Curtis b about 1897- Married- listed with the family of Phoebe Hardy Silkworth and her husband, Arnold. He is listed as a brother-in-law. No wife is listed with him. He states that he was married about 1922.

I checked the WW1 records and George is listed as being born 31 May 1896.

I assume that he may be the husband of Gladys but I have not been able to find Gladys on the 1930 Census.

Kathy
If you google www.google.com "Margaret L Silkworth"

The 3rd hit titled Oswego County Today you will find the obit for Margaret, the wife of Arnold Silkworth. She died as a result of an accident.

I also found it on Ancestry. All of the obits that I typed out were found on Ancestry. On Ancestry there is a New York State historical newspaper site which has Syracuse papers on it. I would tell you how to access it but I am not sure how your Ancestry is laid out.

Kathy

Also living with her is her granddaughter, Helen Beauregard, age 18.

I played around with Helen Beauregard's name and found her on the 1920 Census living with her father, Albert Beauregard. a widow.

So I tried a historical newspaper site

www.fultonhistory.com and searched in quotes "Albert Beauregard"

Hit #3 is the obit for Anna Hardy Beauregard
_________________
On that same site search "Anna Beauregard"
Hit #1 Funeral notice-Burial in Oakwood cemetery
________________________________
Search "Helen Beauregard"
Hit #1and #4 Of interest

Listed as survivors of Anna are her husband and daughter
parents, William and Sarah Hardy
Brothers-William and Rexford
Sisters-Lillian, Gladys,Mabel and Mrs Silkworth-Syracuse
Sarah Theyer of Detroit
Elizabeth and Louise Hardy of New York

Kathy

Dear dj3aj2cj1

Many many thanks for responding & with some very interesting information. This certainly looks like my Gladys Hardy as the age, the location & the possibility of a twin are correct. This will now take some looking into so if anyone can offer any suggestions as to how I can confirm the case of Gladys & her family difficulties with the authorities in Syracuse I would be most grateful for any help.
Thanks again you are a star.

Geoff

Not sure if this newspaper article refers to your Gladys Hardy or not, but thought I'd pass it along. From the census it appears that Gladys and Mabel might have been twins, and this article makes reference to "Gladys and a twin sister".

The Syracuse Herald
Syracuse, New York
Sunday
April 20, 1913
Page 22

GLADYS HARDY IS
PUZZLING OFFICERS

Girl is Detained as an Ungovernable
Child

CRUEL TO OTHER CHILDREN

Shows Marked Improvement
Since Her Confinement at the
Detention Home

Home Influences
Blamed For Condition

The local probation officers are
watching with interest the case of
Gladys Hardy, who is now at the
Detention home. Her case has a
number of unusual features and it is
felt illustrates the value of the pro-
bation system and the Juvenile home
to a marked degree.
"When the little Hardy girl, who is
only 11 years old, was brought before
Justice Shove one week ago in
Childrens court it was on the charge
of being an ungovernable child. Her
mother declared that she was absolutely
beyond control and was not
amenable to moral suasion or punishment.
Her statements were corroborated
by Gladys's teachers, who
said that she was so cruel that it was
not safe to leave her alone with
younger children.
There was so much evidence of the
girl's unnatural characteristics that
after a brief examination in court Justice
Shove decided that she must have
some mental or physical defect to
cause such abnormal actions. He
ordered that she be held temporarily
for observation.
An Investigation of conditions at the
child's home brought out the fact that
the fault might not be all on Gladys
side. She is the youngest of a large
family and it was found that there had
been much quarreling especially between
Gladys and a twin sister.

Contented at the Home
Gladys is not a prisoner at the
Detention home, but is treated like one
of the family by Mr. and Mrs. A. D.
Strong, the superintendent and matron,
and since she has been there has given
no trouble, having been amiable and
sweet tempered. She is attending
Prescott school and her record there
for the week has been good.
The child seems perfectly contented
and happy and shows no
anxiety to go home. "It seems to be a
case of uncongenial surroundings,
said Mrs. Max Thalhelmer, woman
probation officer, yesterday, "and
shows what evil tendencies such surroundings
will sometimes develop in a
child not naturally bad." It has not
yet been decided what will be done
ultimately with the little girl and she
will remain at the home for the present.

Took a little bit of searching but I found Frederick's obit. Ida's obit states that Frederick died in November 1939 BUT it was really June 1939. People memory didn't seem to be very good back then I guess.

The Post Standard
Syracuse, New York
June 27, 1939
Page 19

Frederick H. Scobell, 626 Gifford
Street, died Tuesday morning in
Syracuse Memorial Hospital after an
illness or two years. He was a former
employee of the Moran Trucking
Company. Mr. Scobell was a communicant
of Saint Lucy's Church, and
a member of its Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida
Sobell; a daughter, Miss Elizabeth
Mary Scobell, a son, Frederick Richard
Scobell: his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John A. Scobell, and several aunts
and uncles. Funeral services will be
conducted at his home Friday at 9
A. M., and at 9:30 o'clock In Saint
Lucy's Church.
Syracuse Herald-Journal
Syracuse, New York
May 10, 1940

MRS. IDA J. SCOBELL
Services for Mrs. Ida J.,Scobell
of 626 Gifford Street, who died
Tuesday, were conducted at 9 A.M.
Friday at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Drucak of 110
Hunter Avenue, and at 9:30 A.M.
at St. Lucy's Church. The Rev.
Thomas J. Hayes was celebrant at
solemn high mass of requiem, assisted
by the Rev. Paul S. Long, as
deacon, and the Rev, Charles. E.
Tracy, as subdeacon. Bearers were
Kenneth Alt, John Wojcik, John
O'Donnell, Fay Morris, Edward Caban
and John Schultz. Burial was
in Assumption Cemetery.

Syracuse Herald-American
Syracuse, New York
May 12, 1940

Suicide Pact
Seen in Death
Of 2 Women
Poison Kills Mrs. Gail
Shcctum After She At-
tends Friend's Funeral

Mysteries C1eared
Mrs. Ida Scobell Also
Said to Have Brooded
Over Health

That Mrs. Gail Sheehan. 52, of
625 Clifford Street, followed the
example of her friend, Mrs. Ida
Scobell, 2(, same address, in ending
her life by poison Friday after at-
tending the funeral of the younger
women, was the verdict given last
night by Dr. H. Ernest Gak, county
coroner, to clear mystery in the
two deaths, within three days.
His decision led police to close
their inquiry into the case and Detectives
Louis McMahon and Elmer
Turner, assigned to the investigation
by Police Chief William E.
Rapp, also expressed belief it was
a case of double suicide.
Coroner Gak maintained his
earlier verdict of "probable suicide"
in the case of Mrs. Scobell,
however, although he described
Mrs. Sheehan's death outright as
suicidal.
He released the body of Mrs.
Sheehan to David F. Kearney, funeral
director, after post-mortem
examination at the county morgue
showed she had died of the same
kind of poison that claimed Mrs.
Scobell's life.
The older woman was found in
convulsions at the home of nieces
and nephews at 161 Harold Street
Friday night and died shortly after
a doctor was called to her bedside.
Mrs. Scobell died similarly last
Tuesday morning at the Gifford
Street address shortly after she
awakened. Mrs. Sheehan was with
her when death occurred.
Then Mrs. Sheehan went to her
relatives' home in Harold Street
to stay, but became ill and went
to Crouse-Irving Hospital, where
she had been treated on several
previous occasions for a chronic
condition. She was discharged
from the hospital Friday morning
in time to attend Mrs. Scobell's
funeral and committal services at
Assumption Cemetery.
Relatives told Detectives Mc-
Mahon and Turner that both
women had long brooded over their
health and had talked of a suicidal
pact.
Mrs. Scobell had been despondent,
relatives said, since the
death of her husband, Frederick R.
Scobell, last November. She was
the mother of two children.
Mrs. Sheehan was the widow of
David Sheehan. She leaves a sister,
Mrs. Morton Martin of Buffalo;
two nephews, Martin Wilson
of Buffalo and Paul Franks of
Syracuse, and four nieces,
F. J. Wilson of Buffalo, Mrs.
Charles De Jourdan, Mrs. Robert
and Miss Jean Frank, all
Of Syracuse.
The funeral will take place from
the Kearney Funeral Rooms at 661
Gifford Street Tuesday afternoon
at 2 o'clock after sevices are conducted
by the Rev.
