For some reason, my mother save the following undated news clipping:
"Staff Sgt. Pierce, Himrod, Awarded DFC for Service
PENN YAN --- Staff Sgt. Ralph E. Pierce, Jr. of nearby Himrod has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for serving with the U. S. Army's Eighth Air Force in England, according to a War Department announcement Tuesday through The Associated Press in Washington.
Staff Sergent Pierce is home on furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pierce of Alfalfa Acres, Himrod. He has completed 25 missions over Germany as a tail gunner on a Flying Fortress and has the Air Medal, three Oak Leaf Clusters in addition to the DFC."

I have no other knowledge about the family.
