I remember this flood very vividly. Our family lived on the west side of Lebanon, far from the river. We had water totally surrounding our property making our home look like a houseboat. The house next door had a basement, and it was filled almost to the windows. The girl that lived there actually went swimming! We all thought she was nuts swimming in that dirty water. I remember that the school I attended (Queen Anne Grade School in the 5th grade), was dismissed early because of the rising water and told sternly to "Go STRAIGHT home." As I remember, we were out for several days. The Santiam River, on the east side of Lebanon flooded often in those days before the dams at Foster were finally built in the late 1950's.

Laura's suggestion of contacting Pat at the LGS is an excellent suggestion. She is, if I may say, an authority on Lebanon history and has been involved in most if not all of the attempts to preserve our town's history.

Lebanon has a new, large, MODERN library, dedicated just a couple months ago, and we are blessed with a fantastic group of dedicated workers and volunteers there. The genealogical department is fabulous.

As for the "other posters" suggestions, they might yield some information if you have the time to pursue them, but, I am sure you would find it to be far less time consuming and much more rewarding if you contact Pat.

Good luck
