W.E. Williams Is Called Beyond
Funeral Services Wednesday for Pioneer or Arlie Resident
Independence - William Edward
Williams, nearly 88, who fell and broke his hip two weeks ago, died Sunday at a
Salem hospital. Williams was a pioneer of the Airlie district. He was born March 7, 1852, on the donation land claim of his father and mother, James E. and Martha
Williams who crossed the plains from
Tennessee in 1845.
He spent his entire life on the home farm, and there in 1876 he took his bride, Miss
America Price, daughter of
Larkin and
Gillie Price, also pioneers. Mrs. Williams died in December 1908.
Four Children Survive
Surviving are four children, Marcus Clyde, Independence druggist; Wade H. and William E., Jr., on the home farm and Vern W. of Portland. A son Floyd A. is deceased.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm in the Smith-Baun chapel at Independence, with Rev. R. J. Phelps officiating and interment at Airlie.
