By chance on the Ellis Island data base I discovered several pages of Indians returning to Pine Ridge SD from France on October 19, 1911. There were some Canadians listed also. If anyone wants to look, I made note of one name, John is the first name and Wounded Horse is the last name. I did not see any indication as to why they were overseas. I have no relationship, but thought this could be of use to someone.
