Designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

My grandmother was Dora Belle Atkinson's sister her name was Lula Lydia Atkinson Bollinger. I have no information on the marriage of Dora Belle, but I do know they had another sister named Laura and three brothers Newton that lived in Calf., David T. "Bud" that lived in Dalhart, Texas. and George that lived in Itasca Texas. I knew Bud and George. My mom say's she saw Dora Belle once, she was my dads aunt. I called Dalhart a few years ago to see if I could find out about Ida Brown Atkinson and they had he death certificate with know parents names, and my grandmother Lula had signed it. The pictures I have of the graves of Lula, David, Ida and David's graves I took, so I know they are right, but not sure about the rest of the family tree regarding the Ida Brown Atkinson. I think it might be wrong, I have Ida Karen and you have Ida Belle. I need to call Dalhart and see if they can tell me about her middle name. If You find out anything about this side of the family please let me know.
Thank You,
Gwen

Thanks! I have already found a few great things from the links you sent. I would really like to access newspaper from Texline, as well as Pampa, Texas. I am hoping to find some answers in obituaries or articles. I know their are several online newspaper archives, all claiming to have more than anyone else, but I don't want to pay a subscription to something that quite frankly I would be surprised it they actually had. We drive though Texline, Dallam county once a year, but it generally on the weekend, when the library is closed. Thanks again for the info!

I wrote this paper as part of my research for an article written for the Journal of the Wild West History Association titled "Rethinking the Murder of Pat Garrett", which appeared in the August 2011 issue.

I am now working on a book about the most highly publicized El Paso murder in history, the murder of cattle baron Thomas Lyons in May 1917. Although Jim Miller had been lynched in Ada, OK, in April 1909, his crime family continued operations and engineered this contract killing.

J. N. Webb was indicted and stood trial with Jim Miller's brother-in-law, Carl Adamson, in 1908 for smuggling 16 illegal Chinese immigrants into the US at El Paso. They were arrested at Tularosa, NM. J. N. Webb was acquitted due to jury tampering.

Later, Elmer Webb was standing next to Mannie Clements Jr, another Miller brother-in-law, in the Coney Island Saloon in El Paso when someone shot Mannie in the back of the head. For a while Elmer was a prime suspect in this case, but he was not indicted.

Send me an email at lobdillj@att.net if you'd like more information.

Jerry Lobdill

It is possible that whoever did her obit, did not know her maiden name, and did know the Ward name of her daughter. It happens a lot on death certs. You should try to contact the person who owns the Inman website. They may have more info. I am not related.

I looked at the cemeteries that are listed online, but had no luck at finding where she is buried. You might try contacting the Genealogy Society there, to see if they have a list of the cemeteries, or an obit listing the cemetery. You will find that there is very little that is listed online.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!! Thank you! I am curious. On the photo, it says Maggie C. Ward Inman. Where does the Ward come in? Her daughter Addie married John Ward. Do you have any info on that? Are you sure that is Maggie C. Smith?

Also, I assume she died in Texline, since she was listed in the 1900 census there. Do we have any idea of where she is buried? I can find no record of her in the Texline cemetery.

One last thing - are you related in this anywhere?

Son, George David Brown registered for WWI Draft in Los Angeles, CA. Birth listed as 14 Dec 1877 and he was married to Thelma. They're found 1920 AZ-Yavapai-Clarkdale-District 102-Image 15, 1930 CA-Los Angeles-Los Angeles (Districts 501-750)-District 640-Image 15, and 1940 CA-Los Angeles-Los Angeles-(60-1149)-Image 7. Death listing https://familysearch.org/ with date of 3 Sep 1940. He was a steam locomotive engineer. I'm guessing Maggie died in Dallam 'cause Joe P. Inman had another wife in 1910?

If you don't have that record the clerk will furnish you copy. Tele # 575.374.9491 Address is 200 Court St, Clayton NM 88415.
The "Book of Years" A History of Dallam and Hartley Counties by Lillie Mae Hunter has on page 157 the following: T. W. Turner---- Mr. Turner was greeted by a fierce blizzard when he arrived in the Panhandle in 1900 from East Texas. He settled about 20 miles west of Channing, with his nearest neighbor five miles away. The Winters of 1901-1902 were spent in Channing so that the children might go to school, but the Turners lived on the ranch in the summers. The family attended the Methodist Church in Channing, since it was the only one there, but joined the Baptist Church upon moving to Dalhart in 1902. Mrs Turner was the first person to be baptised in the original Dalhart Baptist Church. Her daughters family (the R. U. Counts) remain active in that church.
Then on page 52 mentions that in 1915, R. U. Counts coached the first basketball team. Page 51 states that Mrs Counts graduated in 1908, and a small class had completed high school the year before. Graduation exercises were planned for the 1908 class, but the town was hit by one of the recurring smallpox epidemics, and members were simply handed their diplomas without ceremony.

James Lawley lived in Dalhart abt 1904-10

Looking for information on James (A.? E.?) Lawley circa early 20th C. My information indicates that my great grandmother, Pearl (A.?) Shawver (b. about 1880) married James Lawley in 1903 in Kansas City, KS (her parents were living in KS, perhaps Osawatomie, by that time). He lists on his marriage cert. his 1872 place of birth as Dalhart, Texas. Pearl Shawver, when single, lived in Trinidad in 1900 with Clarence Waller and her sister Lilly May Waller (nee Shawver). After marriage in 1903 the Lawleys might have gone back and forth between Trinidad and Dalhart, which were fairly close and linked by rail. Pearl Lawley appears as a store clerk in the 1910 Trinidad city directory, and living with the Wallers and her 2 boys--born in Dalhart in 1904 and 1905-- but then disappears after that. At some point Pearl and James Lawley seperated for some reason, and when Pearl died in about 1920, Clarence C. and Lillie May Waller of Trinidad adopted or took guardianship of the Lawley boys, James Kenneth (my grandfather) and Eugene.

Perhaps coincidentally, Clarence Waller was a railroad engineer with Colorado and Southern (C&S)Railroad. Dalhart's rail lines were taken over by C&S Railroad in 1899. The James Lawley I'm looking for may have been working on that railroad (explaining how they met. I did find a James Lawley living (after service in WWI) with a Mary Lawley in Tacoma, WA, working in 1920 as a rail engineer. He may have later divorced and gone to live with relatives in Oklahoma.

Trying to identify a Bernard N. RICHARDS of Cushing, Nacogdoches County, TX circa 1909. Bernard N. RICHARDS started the McNiel-Richards Music Company in Cushing with Sharp McNiel. My research indicates this Bernard N. RICHARDS probably is Bernard Noble RICHARDS, son of William D. RICHARDS and Viola AWTRY. Bernard Noble RICHARDS was born in 1883 in Blount County, AL and died in 1954 in Dalhart, Dallam County, TX. He was a lawyer in Dalhart. He was living at home with his parents in Rusk County in 1900 and living in Dallam County at least by 1920 (based on Federal Censuses). Does anyone in Dallam County have information on Bernard N. RICHARDS that might prove or disprove these two are the same person?

Thanks.

If anyone has access to names interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart, Dallam Co., I would appreciate a look-up for JAMES RAMSEY who died in 1966 and NONA RAMSEY who died in 1962. If these two people are listed, are they buried in the same section?
Thanks so very much for any information provided.
Rita Addison
l945 - Dalhart Picture Company - lookup

I need a look-up for the details of a 1945 photography studio named, the Dalhart Picture Company.

I have searched what records I can with no results including the XIT museum. They said they are not aware of the Dalhart Picture Company but, if it exist, the XIT likely has its negatives in the XIT's vast uncatalogued holdings.

The only other possibility is the note that I wrote on the photo holder many years ago that says said the Dalhart Picture Company was in OKC.
