Hi,

Did he spend any time in Utah? I looked for him but didn't find him in the Censuses. Did you know you posted on the Morgan Co. board? There probably is a Morgan surname board but surname boards are listed separately.

Also do post your query on the pennsylvania message board. Someone there might know what part of the state the 81 pennsylvania Infantry was located in. Successful Searching!

Looking for info on Thomas F. Penn. He was born 8 AUG 1849 in Monroe Co., OH, a son of Owen & Emeline Penn.

Thomas emigrated west and was married abt 1870 to Isabel Unk (born abt 1849), a native of Missouri. Two daughters were born to the union: Ella M. (abt 1871) and Emeline (abt 1873); both possibly born in Sullivan Co., MO. Thomas & Isabel found in Morris Twp., Sullivan Co., MO in 1870 census. The couple divorced before the 1880 census. He had moved on west to Corydon, Morgan Co., Utah in 1880. Isabel and their two daughters were found in Pleasant Hill, Sullivan Co., MO.

I can find no trace of any of them after that point in time. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Joyce - thank you so much. Thomas was Mad's grandson. He was crippled but a very good harness maker. He was such a mystery - hopefully the Hale connection will help to trace him backwards. There are 2 Anna's - Anna, Mad's wife and Anna Kerstin, their daughter. Records have blended them into one person. If you have any idea how to trace the younger Anna I would love to know. The Milton church records showed her in the 1870's and then sheis gone again. Anyway- thanks again for your time and help.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Schubeck came from von Schönburg changed in 1918 monarchy law
Schubeck line from the Monarchy came from the von Schönburg line. A law was passed in 1918 to strip nobles of their titles and change the spelling of their name. When the monarchy fell; most likely reasoning for the name changes were for protection and required to become a new US citizen. Charles Leopold was Leopold von Schönburg. The nobles that fled to America were in danger and did leave families behind. This is why you see variations. People spelled it as they could say it back then. Just as when some of the Von Habsburgs came over to the US the title was dropped and the spelling of their name changed. Some are Von Hapsburg, and simply just Hapsburg, though the true name is Von Habsburg with their rightful titles. The law of 1918 therefore, explains a lot. Many noble names were changed several times, and many of the new America citizens were required to do so. A born name is not complete as all names and titles were given at a child's christening/baptism by customary law.
I am glad to forward you any documents you may need.

I have extensive documentation and pictures on descendants of John Croft & Amelia Mitchell.

I started researching when I was a young teenager and have been actively working on these lines for the past 20 years. I have done extensive research on both the Croft and Mitchell lines (as well as my other lines). I have digital copies of most of my documentation and well as photos and stories, which I am happy to share. I'm in the process of obtaining my CG certification, which I hope to have submitted within the next month or so. I just have to finish editing the kinship section, which I wrote on my Croft research.

I believe I might have a few photos on Frank Croft.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dana
theadpalmers@yahoo.com

Schubeck family name butchering was Von Schuboeck

I have no idea why the Von was dropped when they came over to the States... but here is informtaion I found to our Schubeck/ Lowther lineage.

Technically The have misspelled our name so badly throughout the records... it is a difficult find... even in the records. My great - great grandfather was from the Autrian -Hungarian Monarchy Charles Leopold Von Schuboeck (with umlauts of course) who came over to Westpoint to train the soldiers for both sides of the Civil war. He fled because of the fall of the empire and his son also served in the civil war. They stripped our name of the title when the other family members came over and changed the spelling. The census people changed the spelling as it sounded... so I have found our name five different ways thus far. I would be very curious if anyone has any other information....

Also... The Lowther family is tied to ours as well. I have history traced back to the Vikings.

Here is a thread on the family reunions in Northumbria

You know David Low was actually the Lowther family Reunion tour director. I have the contact information is you would like to go as I have many family member that are interested.. I know Sarah Lowther is (DOB Jan. 4) is godchild to Her Majesty the Queen. I have a geneology chart that ties our connections and the Lowthers in our family to the Vikings(WODEN King OF Wessex and "Alfread the Unready"....The "Yellow" Earl as they called him, Lady Godiva,Old King Cole, Alexander the Great, Edward III (also a distinct tie in to the Cliffords) The Feast at Broughms castle (Wm Wordsworth) There is also another Wordsworth poem that he specifically worte when he was visiting the Lowther Castle Grounds. (Just called Lowther). Very fascinating history. They have activities at the Driving trails at Lowther usually in August. Hugh Clayton Lowther is now the 8th Earl of Lonsdale. When the Schubecks came over they dropped the Von and changed the spelling of the name. Please let me know if I can help.......
SIncerely,
The Schubeck family

David, I would be most interested in anything that you have on the Gates family, I can't seem to find John Henry's grandfather Abel Gates or I have seen his name as Abraham Gates. I do have a lot of Canadian research on this Gates family, and am led to believe that possibly the grandfather Gates was not born in Canada, but perhaps in the United States. You can reach me at Sunshine@preciscom.net

Joyce Cook

I have information about Elsie Morgan Kent Stahlberg who was born on 6 June 1884 in Iowa to John Josiah and Rhoda Alvaretta (Crosby) Morgan. Elsie was first married to John Loren Kent in Cedar Falls Iowa. They married around 1906 and had 5 children together. They divorced sometime between 1920-1930 and Elsie moved to Sheridan County Montana, where her parents lived. An 11 Aug 1930, she married a farmer named Carl Emil L Stahlberg, in Plentywood MT. He was my great uncle, and came from a rather large family. If anyone is interested in more information, please contact me. I noticed that someone had posted Elsie's married name as Schalberg. The correct spelling is "Stahlberg" I hope this will knock down someones brick wall !!!!!

I am looking for a couple originally from the Ogden area. My father served with Glen "Rich" Richardson in the USN in California c. 1962. My parents lived with Rich and Velma and helped to care for their children after Velma became ill. Their were 4 children- Steve, Rodney, Beth, and older daughter whose name my parents can't remember. If anyone knows of their whereabouts or their children's, my father would like to re-establish contact.
