Re: How to find people in general if you have an account
Use the new Member Connections function under the Collaborate tab. I have been more successful there than on the Boards by far.
Click on the profile of the person of interest in your tree, then hit Search Historical Records. Then look for Family Trees and contact the author.
The only Census that popped up on that name in Barre was 1930. I strongly suspect he may be in there as Mackie or McKay or something else.
When I did a Search off the Home tab, advanced options, I found many trees for James MacKay with a YOB around 1884. You will need to find a middle name and/or names of his parents to find references in the UK Collections.
If you do not have his middle name or the names of his parents, I would check out the microfilm at Aldrich Public Library in Barre. Death Certificates will list spouse and parents. If married in Barre, there may be info on his parents on that record as well. Viewing of these records are free at the library. Ask at the circulation desk for someone to show you how to operate the microfilm. Start with Marriage Index and Death Index rolls first to get specific marriage and death dates before attempting to find images of the certificates.

I searched it, and yes, he was Clerk and Treasurer and Ward 3 Alderman (hint, hint for which Census section to go through page by page).
