Thanks for responding. This is my granddaughter's lineage. I have been able to find a lot more information on the Strong and Gilette lineage. All I have on your Ezekiel Strong (Jr) is that he was born 27 May 1785 and married Fanny Williams. They had Washington, Elvira, Louisa and Clarissy (Clarissa?).

Hi Lori,
I am a 7th and 8th generation descendant of Josiah Jordan (depending on which branch of the tree you climb down from - SMILES) and also a descendant of Henry Cahoun Jordan and Louisa Brown. He was born in Chester, VT, but lived most of his life in Royalton, OH - where all his 12 kids were born.
I have recently retyped the book "Josiah Jordan and his Descendants" that my Great Uncle Dan Jordan put together in the late 70s. I have added lots of new lines and am always looking for 'distant cousin' to connect with.
I would be happy to share the information I have.
My email is jsub7@evertek.net.
Jerry Hillegas

He lived at 6 Depot street in Ludlow, and was also an auctioneer,as was my father. I was named after Jim. I have a photo of Jim's sheriff's badge if you would like a copy.
My niece works for the Sheriff's Dept, and is in the process of finding out the time period when he served in office.

I think most every town had a "poor farm", and most towns have or had a "poor farm road". My booklet on Vermont historical societies does not have one for Ludlow. Check with the Ludlow town clerk or library (try googling) and find out where you might find old annual town reports. These had a section for the "overseer of the poor account", listing who gave services to who and what the cost was. There is also a section on vitals (births, marriages, deaths) that happened within the town each year.

I don't know the answer to your question, but the older annual town reports would have a section for the "account of overseer of the poor". This usually tells how much and who received money for services provided to the town's poor, with the name of the person the services were rendered to. The old town reports usually have a vital records section with information about the births, marriages and deaths that occurred in the town each year.

I don't know the name of a library in Springfield, but they might have old town reports, or the historical society. The town clerk might know where they could be located. You may be able to google for contact info on the library and town clerk. Here is the address for the historical society. My source says it is open mid-April to November, but someone may collect the mail in the off-season. Good luck!

Springfield Art & Historical Society
PO Box 313
Springfield, VT 05156.

Is there anyone who owns Families of Cavendish: early settlers of Black River Valley and is willing to look up information? I don't know which Volume but I have a 2 page post that talks about the Boyle and Hayes family from Ludlow. It says "an Aunt of Mrs. Hayes (Mary Boyle Hayes) is said to have died at the age of 114 years." (see Plymouth families, page 206-7). I'd like to find out the name of this aunt and any other info as I believe that she is the sister of my gg grandfather, Thomas Boyle, who lived in Plymouth and died at age 108 and is buried in Ludlow.

Yes, thank you for the dates, but I have those in my records already. What I am attempting to do, is locate the actual physical document that generated that marriage date. For example, I have found the (photographed) town record that noted Alfred's birth, and I have the information about his death (he went to live in Geauga Co., Ohio, with one of his sons, is buried out there) but now am attempting to find the marriage record itself, not just the fact giving what the date is.
I will give that address you suggested a try! Thanks!

Online researchers indicate that Alfred TUCKER married Mary "Polly" HILLIARD in Woodstock, Orange Co., VT 03 Dec 1797 but cannot determine where that information was found. I am going nuts trying to locate it. Can someone direct me, please? I have searched the LDS film of Woodstock, Windsor Co., VT marriages, didn't find it. The notation above also said Alfred was "from Barnard, VT" in 1797.
Here's what I know, in case it helps...
Census: in 1790, appears to be enumerated within his parents' household in Massachusetts, Worcester Co., Hardwick twp.
Census: in 1800, he is married and living in Vermont, Windsor Co., Woodstock
Census: in 1810, he is still in Vermont, Windsor Co., Woodstock
However, he sold land in Hartland, Windsor Co., VT in 1811 to Zenas Webster (20 a in the SW corner of lot 3, in the 3rd range)
Census: in 1820, he has relocated to New York, Madison Co., Madison.
Can anyone direct me as to additional resources in Vermont? I am not local, but would welcome help from someone who is. Thanks!

Source: Burial Grounds of Vermont, published by Vermont Old Cemetery Association (VOCA)

St. Anthony (Catholic), first burial 1783, fair condition - numerous down and broken; 1 area is in the woods above the rest.

Location: South Main Street, White River Junction.

My note: This cemetery is not beside the church. From the village on South Main, it is on the right near the bend before Sykes/Mountain Ave.

White River Junction Cemetery

I am looking for the burial place of Benjamin Wright, first white settler in Hartford, VT. According to "History of Hartford, Vermont, 1761-1889" (by Tucker, p.190) - Benjamin was buried in the "Cemetery at White River Junction, south side of White River adjacent to the Catholic Cemetery," but I am not sure what that cemetery is now called. It might be Hartford Point Cem, but it is north of the White River, and Mr. Tucker's book shows 2 White River Junction cemeteries, one on the north and one on the south side of the river.
