Looking for any info on the Slater family
around Highgate, Vt., with an ancestery line
with the Abenacki Indians. My great grand-
mother's name was Minnie Margaret Sherwood,
and she married a Slater (my father's grand-
father).

My mothers maiden name was Slater, and her father is Slater with a similar story to yours. I do not know where we originated, but if you can give me more information, we could find out if we are on the same tree... Coyotemine@aol.com

Thanks for the reply. I will call my Dad and get
names and dates. What was your grandfather's
and Mom's name - maybe it will job my Dad's
memory.

The history is this... Fred (unknown if that was his given name) Slater lived on the Indian Reservation (this was thought to have been the Iriquois; Mohawk and Narraganset, but has never been proven... We do have pic's of him on 'a' reservation though living like and with the Native Americans.). I'm unsure of his national origin... He would have been my Great-Great Grandfather (probably born late 1800's). He was said to have been from the Upperstate New York area, and apparently had many wives (about 5). I'm trying to get info from my grandfather, and his half-sister 'Peg'. I will keep you informed...
Sincerely,
Coyotemine@aol.com

I believe this is my great grand father, my nan always told me my grandfather was of native american decent..... my grand father was fred b slater born 21st jan 1922 his father was also fred slater and his mother stella slater and my great grandfather would have been born prob late 1800's that native american thing seems uncanny.

By the way we are in england, we have loads of info to add if we are one of the same.
