I have found information on Ransom Place of Hinesburg, Chittenden County, Vermont. He served in the Civil War, too.

He is the son of my ancestor's brother. Would be happy to share PLACE family info with you and maybe we can sort out the generations.

I have just started my research on the Place family. My father was Floyd Place from Ohio and his father was RIley Place a Minister from the Methodist church. That about all I have. Floyd still has some relatives in Grass Lake Michigan. His sister may still be alive. Any help on the Place family will be greatly appreciated. Dudley H. Place

Hi - where in Ohio were your Place's from? Mine were in Washington County circa 1810. Before that, there was a brief stint in Chittenden County, Vermont and originally from coastal New Hampshire.

The only info I have is that Ellsworth Harmer(3-13-1861) dies 3-1912 was from some place in Ohio. That's all. Do you have anything that can help? Thanks for your speedy reply.

My great, great grandmother was Sanara (records have various spellings) Place and lived in St. George, VT and dies in Westfield, MA. Her death record indicates that she was born in Hinesburg, VT but birth records of two of her children indicate that she was from St. George. She maried Buel Burt.

I believe that she was born about 1816 based on census records.

I would sppreciate sharing any information that you may have on Sanara.

Thanks,
Norm Burt

In the 1860 Census at St. George, VT, Buel & Senara Burt are living right next door to Roswell Place. There has to be a connection.

Roswell Place was son of Linus Place and Polly Nichols.

Here are some burials:

Great news---according to the probate record for Roswell Place, died at St. George, VT, 1872, Senara/Cinara Burt was listed in his will as his sister, which would make her daughter of Robert Place and Lucy Lincoln.

There is some other family information that I think would be very interesting to you in Roswell's will.

These probate records are free on the LDS (pilot) site:

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home

You have to click on Browse collections, then click on the correct place on the map, then scroll down the page until you get to the listings of databases and look for Vermont Probate files, then search for the person you are looking for.

Good luck, and hope this was helpful to you.
