Re: O. E. Monnet Photography ???

LuAnn,
I found information on your O.E. Monnet (Monnette), below. Based on the information, he was a photographer early 1890's, but then became a farmer by 1900. So his period of photography was limited, also appears to be limited to Washington. I looked also for Levi Bradley, with nothing concrete found. The Polk Directories are a yearly publication for a lot of cities across the country, showing persons living in a populated area. These directories "could" be checked to see when Monnet and Bradly stopped appearing as photographers. BUT, since their company probably isn't related to the persons in the photograph, that information is really unimportant.
Based on the persons IN the photograph "possibly" being in Lesterville, Missouri, then the photo ends up in Australia, THEY could have been in Whatcom County, WA. Since they were holding musical instruments, could they have "toured"? O.E.'s family lived in Kansas for a spell... There "could" have been some type of a family relationship, but that would take a LOT of work to determine. Since the photo was taken on November 15, 1891, the local newspaper microfilm could be checked to see if there was any mention of family members, a band, etc, on/about that date.
I do find the William Adkins in Lesterville, Missouri, in the 1900 Census. If others can be identified in the photograph, that would help in additional work in Fairhaven. You might want to attach a copy of the photograph to a posting, that would help researchers, also anyone researching the archives.

-----------The Research-------
The City Directory (Polks) of 1890, shows he was a photographer in Fairhaven, Whatcom County, Washington.
http://theusgenweb.org/wa/whatcom/directories/polk1890f.htm
This lists him as O.E. Monnet of Monnet & Bradley, photographers at 11th s.w. Corner of Mill (Levi Bradley). He is also listed as Orrin E. Monnet, rooms on McKenzie, corner of 21st.

More on the photo:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mis...
--This posting "might" have originally been on the Australian board, but someone moved it to the Shannon County, Missouri board. Lesterville where these subjects of the photo "appear" to be from Lesterville, Missouri.

The 1900 Census for Fairhaven, Whatcom County
Eleza(Eliza?) J. Monnet, head, born August 1831 in Indiana to both parents born in Virginia, widow, married 49 years, mother of 5, 4 living
Charles R. Reav? (Reaves?), grandson, born June 1878 (21) in Kansas to father born Kentucky, mother in Indiana.
--1910, Tacoma Ward 5, Pierce Co., WA
Eliza J Monnette, grandmother, 77, born Indiana, mother of 6/5 living, living with:
Charles L. Reaves, age 31, born Kansas to father born Kentucky, mother Indiana, wife Bertha D, 26; son Ralph L, 1.

--The 1880 census for Conway, Sumner County, Kansas
Isaac Monnett, age 49, farmer
Eliza age 48
Oran(as spelled) age 11 (born 1868/1869);
Lawson, 18,
Rollo, 8
--All of the above born in Indiana
Charles "rEEves", 2, born in Kansas,
--The family just above
Marion Monnett, age 38, farmer, born in Indiana
Maggie, 34
Thomas 8
--I find a family tree posted on Ancestry.com that has the family of Lawson Monnet, shows both of his parents, but no siblings.
--Isaac died Nov 16, 1899, Eliza Jane died October 6, 1923, both buried in Bayview Cemetery, Bellingham, Whatcom Co.

Now that Oran/Orrin/Orin's family has been identified, researching him:
-----------O.E.-----------

The 1900 Census for Prairie, Skagit County, WA
Orin Monnet, born Nov 1868 in Indiana to both parents born in Indiana, farmer, married 10 years
Mary E, born Sep 1864 in Indiana
Jean (as spelled) son, born July 1894 in Washington

The 1910 Census for Santa Ana Ward 4, Orange Co, CA
Monnet, "Own"(as transcribed) "C"(as transcribed), born in Indiana to both parents born in Indiana, cabinet maker.
Mary E, wife, age 45, born in Indiana, mother of 2/both living.
Jean, son, 15, born in WA
Mary E, dau, 9, born in WA.

The 1920 Census for Los Angeles
Monnette, Mary E, 55, born in Indiana, Dressmaker/at home, Widow.
Mary E, daughter 19, born in Washington.
----So he died, probably in California between 1910 and 1920. I didn't research for his death date, as it is probably unimportant to the search.
--Also in LA
Jean W. Monnette, age 25, born in Washington to both parents born in Indiana, house carpenter
Sadie, wife, born in Kansas.

Mary Eliza Foote [Mary Eliza Monnette] born 4 Sep 1901 in Washington, died 14 Jan 1987 in San Luis Obispo, CA. Mothers maiden name Keiger.
--Jean W. Monnette, born 22 July 1894, died 14 oct 1976 in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

I'm not certain what information you have already found online.

Here is a link to information about Orrin E. MONNET from the University of Washington Libraries, in Seattle:

http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:Yef37FxnyRsJ:content.li...

The information states that MONNET and Levi BRADLEY had a studio located at the corner of 19th and Harris Streets in Fairhaven, Washington. They were partners in Fairhaven in 1890, and Bradley moved to Seattle and worked there between 1905 and 1907.

The 1890 Fairhaven directory lists the following:

MONNET, Orrin E (Monnet & Bradley) rooms McKenzie corner 21st

MONNET & BRADLEY (O E Monnet, Levi Bradley), photographers 11th south west corner Mill

In the 1900 census, 31 year-old Orrin is listed as a farmer.

In California in 1910, Orrin / Orin (written as "Own" in the transcription on Ancestry.com)listed as a cabinet maker.

1920 California, he is listed as "Dr. O H MONNET", working in real estate.

By 1930 his wife is listed as widowed.

My guess would be that OE MONNET worked only a short time as a photogrpher, with partner BRADLEY in Fairhaven, Washington.

Beth
not related

I have an old photo by this photographer that I'm trying to learn more about. The date on the back is Nov. 15th, 1891, at Mt. ??????, Washington.

Did this photographer travel and take pictures or just local?

I've googled the name but only a couple posts were directly related. One from a page the indicated he was in partner with a Levi Bradley.

Thanks.

Sid and Jan Lilywhite live next to me when I was growing up. The street was named Dewberry, at that time but is West River Road now. This is in Omak, WA. Sid worked at Biles and Coleman Lumber Mill and I do not remember Jan being employed. I did not know of any children but that does not mean they did not have any. They were nice people.

Roscoe Jackson was my grandfather. Until recently, I was not aware that he might have been married prior to 1924. Recently, I found a WWI draft registration card that listed him as being married and having a young child. I found a 1920 census record that may be them but the ages seem to be wrong and there are no children listed. My dad was born to his wife Beulah whom he married in approx 1924. I am having difficulty finding out what happened to Nancy Willis.

David,
Your're right, the Floodstrands settled in Menominee, Michigan, and Iron River, Michigan. Perhaps originally, Marinette, Wisconsin, a twin city to Menominee. Currently there is a Floodstrand Road in Iron River. My grandmother was Hulda Floodstrand Carlson. Her father was Samuel Floodstrand, brother to Axel. The mason trade is found among the father, Samuel, and sons Axel and Fred. Samuel's wife was Johanna, born Feb. 8, 1841. I received some information about Axel Edwin Floodstrand from Hazen Jaeger Undertakers in Spokane. Im' trying to figure out where you belong on the tree?

BUT I tried the link you supplied and found the marrige of his brother that is the last brick wall in taht family.
Charley G Thompson to Catherine B McCrocken.
I had her name as McCracken from family hearesay.
Your link made me think that ther needs to nbe a list of State and other data bases all in opne place. for istance, Familyserach.org just came out with the death records 1899 to 1945 for New Mexico.
I'd like to gather all these rexcords up and place them on a web page on this web site: http://newmexicoalhn.net/
Any ideas?

Born in Norway, emigrated in 1880, a farmer.
Gjertrud, born Sep 1832 in Norway, emigrated in 1881. mother of 6, 5 living
George, grandson, born August 1891 in S. They left Transylvania County, North Carolina sometime before 1920 or so and went to the State of Washington. I have letters found in my late mother's things from them to her which I would love to share with this family. The letters were mailed in Pacific City, Washington. Not sure that we were directly related. One of my ancestors name was Alexander. Believe that Kate's maiden name was Thrift.

I do hope someone can help. I am looking from my great-grandmother's brother. He came to this country from Scotland, married and took wife and daughter back to Orkney when she suffered from what is now called post-partum depression. She was an American, died in Orkeny, he left the daughter with famkily there and returned to the states. My great-grandmother had come to America to her brother before he married. When he came back he didn't come to Pennsylvania, last family knew was he went to Washington, but that is all we know. He was born 1860-1861. My great-grandmother's name was Amelia as was their mother's. Father's name was Robert, John's name may be John Robert Harvey, not sure. Parents were first cousins.

Alyson L.
Administrators Message - PLEASE READ

There seems to be a lot of controversy about how to post and what to post on this board.

This message board is for those researching people, places and things in the state of Washington, when the county, town etc. is not known.

When replying to a message you are to be respectful to the person to whom you are replying, if you cannot be respectful your message will be deleted.

It is important to note that everyone has their own research style. While we may agree or disagree it is not up to us to tell them what to do or how to do it. Posting message after message degrading someone because of the way they research or how they research or how they answer a question is not allowed, repeated messages like this can result in subscriptions being canceled and not renewed.

It is important to read the original message clearly so that you understand what the poster wants or needs before replying. If you are unsure what they need ask them, posting needless information is a waste of space and time for everyone.

Doing someone's research for them is nice, but pointing them in the right direction is more important, they need to learn how to research themselves and honestly you shouldn't trust research that you have not done yourself. More often than not most just want to be told where to look, not be given a detailed history on information that they probably already have.

Also when posting make sure that you have read the community guidelines and board faq's. I am finding many messages that contain commercial links within them. Commercial sites can be those which sell something, have membership fees or even just advertising on them. If you have a question on if something is acceptable or not, ask, or don't post the link.

I apologize for having to put this message on the board which is also gatewayed, but I am tired of reading message after message that contain nothing but backstabbing and others have as well as I have received several complaints from other posters.

Thank you,
Rene'
board administrator

Hi Dona,
I looked in www.ancestry.com, FamilySearch and Washington State Digital Archives but didn't find Maggie, Mr. Watson or Mary. The latest U. S. Census that is viewable at this time is the 1930 Census. The 1940 Census will be released next year but I don't know how long it will take before an index is released for it.

FamilySearch and Washington State Digital Archives images are being loaded by volunteers and not all of the images have been loaded yet.

I think I'd go back to Canada since you have more solid information for when they lived there. If you've not done much searching in Canada, look up the CanadaGenWeb site, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canwgw/ . They have a guide on how to research in Canada. Successful Searching!

It is believed that she married Mr ..?.. Watson sometime between 1923 and 1930, Maggie had a daughter, known as Mary Watson, who was born sometime between 1914 and 1925. Maggie's first husband James McNay died 1923 in Scotland. They had 5 children, the youngest two James McNay(Jimmy)b. 1907, Scotland and Maggie McNay(Peggy) b. 1910, may have lived with her for awhile in Calgary. During the 1920's for a short period of time Maggie Baxter McNay and her entourage lived in the logging/mill town of Jacksonboro, Ontario which is near Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada
Maggie, Mr Watson and Mary is said to have moved to British Columiba,in the 1930's and possibly moved to Washington State in the 1940's
Any information is greatly appreciated as Maggie is my brickwall.
Thank you

Washington Digital Archives has a marriage record in 1991 for an Allison Marie Miller to Gregory David Perry in Chelan County. It says Allison was from East Wenatchee, Douglas County, Washington at the time of the marriage.

I have no way of knowing if this is the right Allison Miller, but you can see the image at

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov

Joy

I found a census record that I think belongs to your relative. It's for a William S. Morris of Warm Springs, Inyo county, California (Bishop, CA, was also in Inyo county), born about 1891 in Missouri. His wife's name is Mabel and his 2 year old son is named Richard. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbi...

He's still alive as of 1930. http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=...

I didn't find a death record for your William Morris, but the California Death Index (of deaths from 1940-1997) shows a William Silvers Morris born 16 Sep 1951 (in California) and dying 21 Aug 1981 (in Sacramento). The mother's maiden name is Kennedy. Maybe this is his grandson?
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=...=

Am searching for what happened to William Silvers Morris. He was born in Missouri in 1890. A picture of him is marked Silvers (Dick) Morris, ca. 1920 near Bishop--I am assuming the logging location was Bishop. He was married and had a son. Wife and son's name unknown. He contacted pneumonia and died. My wife was his niece and he died before she was born. Information desired as widow and son's name and did widow remarry and did son retain surname of Morris. Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thank you! Dennis
