I have a convict Arthur Hanratty (alias Johnston)who arrived on the Mangles in 1827 and I have not been able to find his death.

I found a reference to a Arthur Henreity in the Sydney Gazette in 1842, where he was charged with "stealing and killing, with the intent to carry away, three cows" he was sentenced to 14 years transportation.(http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/2556002?searchT...).

Question is: How do I find out where he was sent to?

I have checked the CD 'index to Colonial Convict Movements 1827 to 1853' but he is not listed.

Now I'm not sure if they are the same person, but a Arthur Hanratty was given a TOL in 1859 after being convicted in 1853 & 1856 for Hore stealing and sentenced to 5 years on the roads. District Syd 59/Mait 56) SR: 4/4232 Reel 893, ship (ship Indian Ocean - 1853 - Melb) and was cancelled in 1863 for being absent from the district(alias Arthur Clarke).

Also for this same Arthur Clarke alias Hanratty, from the Police Gazette in 1863, "he states he arrived as immigrant to portland bay in the year 1853". (information from the Police Gazette via World Vital Records).

I checked the immigrant arrivals for Melbourne for the Indian Ocean but this ship did not arrive until 1854 and there is no Arthur Clarke or Arthur Hanratty listed.

Now back to my original question: Where would the Arthur Hanratty who was convicted in 1842 have been sent to? Both Arthur's have similarities (despite the alias's), they were both born around 1806/1808 in Armagh Northern Ireland.
