Thank you for your very generous offer.
My grandfather told me one of his forefathers was a convict sentenced to 7 years and transportation to Australia. He also said that his name was Thomas
Jones because the oldest boy of each generation has been Thomas forever in his family. I've managed to trace 2 generations from granddad to Thomas
Jones (B. about 1832 in Cardigan
Shire,
Wales) who married Catherine
Hammill (B. 1835-7 Co. Clare, Ireland). Tom was a miner and part owner of a quarry in Jane Street Fortitude Valley with Stephen
Hammill. I haven't yet confirmed his mother's name, nor can I find when he arrived in Australia.
What I'd really like to know is, was he the convict or was it his father (and when did he come to Australia).
Thank you again for your kind offer. I hope you can find something for me.
