I am interested in following up on the 30 convicts listed on the Mangles 2, 1822, who were charged with insurrection who may have been part of the 'Rockite Rebellion' in Limerick. They were also known as 'Whiteboys' because of their white shirts. Names listed are; Laurence Brennan, Michael Carroll,John Collins,James Conlon,Michael Connell,John Crowe,Patrick Cunningham,John D'Arcy,Daniel Donovan, Thomas Driscoll,Patrick Fitzgerald, James Fitzpatrick,Daniel Foley,John Hickey,Daniel Horan,Patrick Lysaught,Edward Markham,Denis Murphy,Thomas O'Dea,Hugh O'Donnell, John Purtell,Timothy Quin,Robert Reidy,Patrick Robinson,James Roche,John Ryan,Thomas Shaughnessy,James Spiring,Peter Sullivan, William Wise. Any information relating to my three particular rebels would be appreciated.

There is a mention of 30 prisoners being taken during the "Rockite" rebellion. If you check page 3 of 'Ireland's forgotten 'Rockite' rebellion by Peter Berresford Ellis http://www.irishdemocrat.co.uk/anonn-is-anall/rockite-rebell... it gives a good account of what happened. The details of the thirty convicts onboard the Mangles 2 who were charged under the Insurrection Act are noted with a reference PPC1771. I do not have the web site for this but I think it was found by either searching Irish Convicts to Australia data or the actual Mangles 2 listing. If I find the reference I will post it for you. My interest is James Fitzpatrick whom I have been able to follow up on but I would like to find out if Hugh O'Donnell was also one of mine.

Every little helps, Sue

Hi,

I am also interested in patrick Lysaght as I am researching for a friend and I think this is a ggg grandfather. I have a Harriet Licet whose father was Patrick. She migrated to NSW in abt. 1835 and was 14. Her father, Patrick could have been sent as a convict and the family came to NSW later. Please advise if this maybe the case.

Thanks for any information you can provide

Hi,
I am trying to trace any further information on the 30 convicts onboard the Managles who were involved in the insurrection in 1822. I have previously listed these in my first entry. All I have is a listing of names and their crimes. The rest is only summation on my part, but as you know when dealing with Irish ancestory one can only guess at the past until one has the facts.

Regards Sue.
