Charles DUNN arrived in Sydney on MIDAS (2) on 15 Feb
1827. His brother Nicholas (aka Nicodemus)was also on board, and another brother Joseph was also transported (ship unknown).

His brother appears on 1828 census but Charles does not.

Charles assigned to Berry & Wollstonecraft. Absconded in 1832 with other convicts. Recaptured - no further punishment imposed.

Cert. of Freedom in 1833.

He and his brother Nicodemus were Ginger Beer Brewers.

His children (with Mary Ann ?) were Charles (9 March 1837), Esther (b 15 November 1838), Lucy (b 22 March 1841) & Mary Ann (b 7 March 1843).

Though I have the boys' father as Charles and Mother as Esther, I did not have Bedwin as the surname of Esther, though that name has appeared in my research before.

Hi.I am a decedent of Charles though his daughter Esther Dunn who married John Morrissy/Morris(s)on. Their son Sylvester was my great great grandfather. Just wanted to say thanks for the info, I didn't realize Charles was a convict. I only knew my ancestry as far back as Esther.

Nice to get your message today. Tried to reply earlier, but I do not think I was successful, so will try again. My husband is also a descendant of John and Esther through their daughter Margaret (Maggie) who was my husband's Grandmother. That would make John and Esther his Great Grandparents. Yes Charles was indeed a convict, and he had two brothers who were also convicts. There were three older brothers as well, one of whom died as a young lad. We will be away for a month after today, but I would be happy to discuss this further. Joseph, one of the other two convict brothers is still a mystery to us, though he did come to Australia as a convict.
