The 1828 census shows:

John Dowden arrived 1815 on "Canada" was sentenced to 14 years in 1813.
In 1828 he was a free settler aged 47 a catholic and was working as a fencer for Mr. Cordeaux at Wingercarribee.

Unfortunatly the database which shows where he was convicted is not working for me.

The 1828 NSW census can be searched online on the ANCESTRY site it gives some info about each citizen. If you want to know more about a convict the "convict indents" give all the details eg crime, place and time of trial, sentence, physical description, ship transported on, etc. The indents are on microfiche at most large council libraries in NSW. Are you in Australia? if not I will look up John DOWDEN at my local library next time I'm there.

Yes that was a long trip it was usually 6 months depending on how many stops they made. Those details are from websites I will look at the indents at Hurstville library in the next week or so and post the details listed there.

Hi Pam

The info from John DOWDEN's indent has been posted by car6m2ody. There probably isn't much more you can find out about him except searching NSW BDM for marriage, death etc.
