Hi Glenn,
I was down at the Eldorado Cemetery 2 weeks ago. I often go for a drive there on Sundays to have a beer at the Tavern { smallest in Australia}. I am sure I remember seeing Dyson graves there. I will do a bit more research today and see what I come up with.

G'day Glenn,
I haven't been able to find out much. It seems that this family was not big on registering BDM's.

Joseph DYSON and Mary Jane SWINBURN married 1858 VIC

They had:

Elizabeth Anne b 1860 Wangaratta d 1971 Cheltenham { never married};

George SWINBURN DYSON b 1861 Estcourt { never heard of it };

Emma b 1864 Wangaratta d 1864 Wangaratta;

Thomas SWINBURN b 1865 Wangaratta d 1867 Wangaratta;

These are the only siblings I could find, so considering one sister never married and the other sister and brother died in infancy, there would be no relatives from them.

There are no entries for SWINBURN for BD or M's before 1858 so it would seem Mary's family came to Victoria { from where??} about this time.

There is a bit about George's wife's family. The Reids.

Jessie Griffith REID'S parents were;
George Withey REID b NSW { can't narrow it down- too many George REID, none with a second name Withey} d 1934 Parents Unknown.
Mary GRIFFITHS b ? { can't find one} d 1932 Richmond parents John and Elizabeth { nee McKay} GRIFFITHS.

They had { all born in Beechworth}:

George b 1876 d 1901 Beechworth Hospital;

John b 1877 d 1878;

Elizabeth b 1878;

Mary b 1880;

Walter b 1881 d 1959 Melbourne;

Jessie Grifiths b 1883;

Eury/Urey Ethel b 1885;

Anne Withey b 1886 d 1956 Coburg;

John b 1888 d 1957 Beechworth;

Raymond Withey b 1893;

Amy b 1894 d 1895 Beechworth;

Marjory b ? d 1897 Beechworth;

Verney b? d 1897 Beechworth;

Morman Slade b 1898 d 1970 Coburg;

Robert Slade b 1899 d 1982 Heidelberg;

The only marriages I can find for any of these children are:
Mary married Thomas Edward CHEESEMAN 1902
They had:
Edward Taylor b 1906 Wangaratta;
Lorna Mabel b 1911 Eldorado;

Eury married William Dennis FITZGERALD 1907

Anne married John George DEVERY 1909
They had :
John George b 1909 Eldorado d 1983 Beechworth;
Norman Harold b 1913 Wangaratta;
Phyllis Alice b 1916 Wangaratta;
Bertram Bernard Michael b 1917 Eldorado;
Leslie Walter b 1919 Wangaratta;

I also found an illegitimate child for Jessie GRIFFITHS REID Marjorie b 1902 Beechworth father Unknown. Cant find a death or Marriage for her.
I also found Beryl Grace b 1909 married Herbert Leslie SHINGLER in 1929. The only child I can find for them is Thelma b ? d 1928 Richmond.
If George was killed in the Eldorado Mine I would be surprised if there wasn't something in our local paper " The Ovens and Murray Advertiser" about it. If you give me a date I can go and look it up at the local Museum.I can also photograph the relative graves in Beechworth and Eldorado if you like.
I hope you can make sense of all of this. I tried to leave spaces between each person but it wouldn't let me, it looks like a mess. I hope you can sort it all out.
Where do you live?
Regards
Alison
Beechworth
