Looking for information about my gt uncle Robertson MATHEW who travelled to Sydney NSW Australia and is the on unassisted immigrant passenger lists 1826-1922. He was on the 1881 UK census at 5, Rose St, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, his parents were Robertson MATHEW and Eliza Robertson who married 1854 in Peterhead, he was a ships carpenter by trade. If anyone can help as to what happened to him after he landed in Australia I would appriciate it.
thanks Chick Mathew

Hi Chick,
There is no death listing for a Robertson MATHEW or MATTHEW listed on the NSW BDM from 1880 - 1978. I even tried transposing the christian and surname - unfortunately nothing listed for a Mathew/Matthew Robertson either.

You could try the boards in other states of Australia.

Good Luck,
Tricia

Hi

Are you sure that the unassisted immigrant passenger list 1826-1922 refers to your Gt Uncle? You said that his parents married in 1854. From the immigrant passenger list i found one Robertson Mathew b: abt 1831 arrived Sydney NSW 1875. If he was born abt: 1831 then that would not fit with his parents marriage. From the 1881 Scotland Census it looks more likely from the DOB that is was his father travelling to Australia.

But I may have it wrong.

Cheers
Tania

Hi, yes I am pretty sure as it is an unusual name and seems to be used only by the family. My gt uncle seems to have disappeared after the '81 census, but his father was born c1830 although he is on the '91 and '01 census and died 1911 in Peterhead. The only other thing is different branches of the family used the same names so Robertson senior may have had cousins with this name, but found none on Scotlands People, LDS or Ancestry. Have you any other information as this could have been my Robertson's father {he was a ships carpenter also} and he returned to Scotland before 1881? Thanks for your help,
sincerely Chick Mathew

Sorry I haven't been able to find his arrival details other than what was on Acestry, as I only have UK membership and this doesn't allow me to see all the details.
regards Chick Mathew
