Many thanks for the tip.

He died at York Terrace, Marylebone, London, in 1850. This is almost in the centre of London. I got his will through the National Archives.

I will do some google searches on local libraries ... in the meantime, if anyone knows anywhere else I can look, that would be a big help.

Marriage of Miss Nannie Dashiell to Mr. Tom Abraham

Appears in The Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 16 August 1890...

Abraham - Dashiell Wedding

For some time past matrimonial events have been very dull in the city, but an event of this character occurred last Wednesday evening, heralded by the distribution of several hundred announcements as follows: "Dr. and Mrs. Dashiell request the pleasure of your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Nannie to William Abraham, Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Church of Good Shepherd, Terrell, Texas." When the auspicious hour arrived a large number of admiring friends and well wisher assembled at the Episcopal Church at intent upon witnessing the happy event, and eagerly anticipating the arrival of the couple who were to figure as parties to the connubial contract. Precisely at the appointed hour, the bridal party arrived, announced by the sweet, solemn soul-stirring harmonies of the wedding march beautifully rendered by Mrs. J. F. Gilmore. The party entered the church as follows: First came the ushers, Messers. C. W. Childress, H. Jones, Matthew Roberts and H. P. Ruddell; then the bridesmaids, Misses alice Terrell and Mary Dashiell. These were closely followed by Mr. Allie Dashiell, best man, and Mr. Abraham, the groom, , Mrs. W. B. Dashiell and the bride, Miss Nannie Dashiell. Rev. O. A. Taylor, perfomed the beautiful Episcopal ceremony, which was short, pleasing and impressive. The bride was tastefully attired in a gray woolen traveling dress, shoes, hat and gloves to match and never appeared so sweet and attractive. The groom faced the occasion nobly, exhibiting a modest business like pride in his victory. Two sweetest bridesmaids we ever saw stood on either side of the couple attired in white mull dresses, trimmed with white ribbons. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party departed for the depot, where they received the congratulations and good wishes of a host of friends. A beautiful bouquet from New York City and many telegrams were also handed them. They were the happy recipients of a number of valuable and handsome presents from friends at home and abroad. Amid a shower of rice, old shoes, etc. the happy couple boarded the evening train for Galveston, where they will spend the honeymoon.

The Times-Star joins many admiring friends in wishing for them success through life's pathway.
Hi Tom - also got this info from the lady in the north. Im just wondering if Igot your email I could pass it on to her if she was interested in getting in direct contact? What do you think?
Rachel?
She has a "printed copy of the first lease book of William Brownlow , the Plantation undertaker who was granted 1500 acres of land near Lough Neagh in 1610. One of the early leases recorded is as follows --
"Derryadd to Edward Murphy, John Abraham and Thomas Cordner for 21 years from May 1691 - - - - Dated 3 November 1690"
Thought you and your US namesake might be interested to see how long the family have been in the area."
Take care
Rachel
Hi TOm - I contacted a lady I got in touch with (in the North of Ireland) through this site when I was doing the family tree for my clan. She sent me the following email which should be of help to you:

Before Ardmore parish was created, the area was part of SEAGOE PARISH and the Seagoe records go back to the 1600s. They are available on microfilm in P.R.O.N.I. but they are also computerised in the Local History Library, Southern Library Board, 1 Markethill Road, ARMAGH.BT60 1NR. The telephone number is 028 3752 5353.
Possibly if a stamped addressed envelope was forwarded, the Library might send details of the Abraham families. All the Library has to do is type in the surname and out comes the info.

Best of luck with it!
Rachel
Hi Tom
I love in southern ireland - in cork city so Im about as far from the north (almost!) as you are - it took me about 6 hours or so to drive there before. I contacted PRONI and they sent out a letter and i think you can pay for them to do a search. I cant remember the history of the church in ardmore - maybe you can google it to see where the church moved from (then you might be able to find the records for that church) I have it in my head its Banfoot (not sure how its spelt) but if I find out anything I'll let you know.

Best of luck - I got back as far as 1800 and decided I was happy enough with that - but records do get a bit hazy from there on in - maybe you could hire a researcher in northern ireland - they can do more in an hour or so than we can cos they know the system. I didnt hire anyone for the north as I actuall met with family and could track from there and get photots and stories etc but I did hire one for the UK and she was good - I couldnt recommend anyone but go with your gut on it. Maybe proni have a list as I said but if you do an internet search for researchers in northern ireland you might find something.
Take care
Rachel

Thanks for the advice. The PRONI site now has their electronic catalog online. They have Ardmore records on microfilm starting only from 1822. I will write to the parish, just in case they have any older records, but I don't hold out much hope. Seagoe parish records start in the 1600's, and there appear to be a few Abrahams there, so I will see if PRONI can find anything helpful.
They also have the Brownlow papers (the family that owned all of the area). Maybe the Abrahams will appear in some of the miscellaneous records. I doubt that PRONI will look it up, so I will have to hire someone.

Where do you live?

Tom

Hi Tom
Elizabeth Cairns is currently the minister (but coming to end of her time there I believe) and the address is:
Ardmmore Rectory
21 Rectory Avenue
Derryadd
Lurgan
Co Armagh BT66 6QR

T: 00 44 28 38 34 0665

PRONI is the records place in Northern Ireland and it can be found at:
http://www.proni.gov.uk
All the details are there.

I think the reason there are so many there in Armagh is that they apparently travelled over in the 1600s with the plantations. Some say they originage from Scotland, I think I also mentioned a Dutch connection and a cousin I met a few weeks ago in England thought he'd heard connections with a township in Lancashire I think it's spelt (!) in the UK. Anyway, hope thats of some use!
Rachel

Hi Tom
The Ardmore (Derryadd) church of ireland church has records going back some distance all right - however one book has been lost and from the 1830s back the pages didnt have any deliniation so writing gets cramped and difficult to read and also has faded. But they are there. Now I cant remember off hand but I know there was another church before this - I think it blew down or burnt down or something but I dont know if the records survived or are records only from the ardmore church.
I could get you the contacts for the church and the records in belfast - do you want to look into it in that detail?
The abrahams Im related to appear to have been Church of Ireland but one married Castles who was presbyterian and so we are now more closely related to castles - and turkingtons - in derryadd than abrahams (the other brothers and sisters left the area as far as we know.
John and William would certainly be common to abrahams in this area though....
Rachel Abraham

Hi Rachael,
I can't help you with the Abrahams at all. But I am interested in the John Castles who married Elizabeth Abraham about 1898. This John Castles was a brother to my grandfather Charles Castles, born 1882. Their parents were Edward Castles b 1835 d 1893 and Sarah Archer b 1840 d 1920. I have a bit of information on children of John and Elizabeth Castles if you are interested. Perhaps we can 'compare notes' on them.
Hope to here from you.
Joyce Wylie

Unfortunately, I do NOT know that our Abrahams came from Derryadd. It just seems to the biggest concentration of them in Ireland. They were Presbyterian in America. I have not found any useful records from the 1700's for Derryadd, and I suspect that most records are lost (as is true for the rest of Ireland). I was hoping for long shot where some Abraham had written that his great uncle John/James/William or Daniel had gone to America around the time of the revolution. Do you know anything of the Derryadd/Montiaghs Church of Ireland or Presbyterian Records?

Tom Hutzelman

Hello Tome - I had given up on this message board about 2 months ago so it is great to get a reply!

Its interesting what you are saying about these Abrahams - and indeed there are quite a few of them in derryadd alright - I visited derryadd twice - last year and in 2007 and it was strange to be on a road where every second home was an abraham and the graveyard was impossible to figure out there was so many of them. According to locals these abrahams prob came to ireland with the plantations in the 1600s - poss from scotland (although theres suggestions maybe initially from holland as local names such as Cassells and first names like christopher which were shortened to 'caster' indicate this dutch influence apparently). I only got back as far as my great great grandfather a John abraham born around the 1800s I think - perhaps your relatives in america were related to him? Each abraham family in the area has specific forenames that they have used - the ones for my family were Edward, Robert or Robert James, John, William, Thomas specifically - other families used Christopher a lot; I havent come across a Daniel.
Just wondering do you know for certain the family came from derryadd? During this search I have come across abrahams unrelated to us (that I know of!) in Limerick, and donegal and Dublin - although derryadd seems to be a bit of a hot bed alright! While the abraham family I come from is now catholic and living in southern Ireland, the derryadd families we are related to were originally Church of Ireland and many are presbyterian.

I dont kno if that helps at all?
Any queries let me know - from this search we found 12 of my dads first cousins (all brothers and sisters!) living in england and my first cousin also, so we are flying to meet them tomorrow for the weekend - its all very exciting! you never know where these searches will bring you!

Good luck with it!

Rachel Abraham

My ancestor John Abraham emigrated to Pennsylvania about 1772, apparently with his brothers William and James. They moved across Pennsylvania and ended up in Pittsburgh (James) and Steubenville (the other 2) in the early 1800's. There was another Abraham, Daniel, who died in Baltimore about 1818, who was closely related because the other 3 were his heirs. I think they may have been from Derryadd/ Montiaghs, mostly because Abraham was an uncommon family name in Ireland and there were several Abraham estates settled in Derryadd in the 1700's. Information from this ares is hard to locate. Do you know anything of the Abrahams in Derryadd before Edward?

Good afternoon Rachel:

I too am on an Abraham(s) search. My search starts in Jamiaca and goes back to England. To make it more complicated their was a name change in the 1920's from Abrahams to Caryll.

In doing my research on the male line I have discovered a gg grandmother named Adeline Anastasia Perin Madure. Now, you are looking for a Peres - is there any relationship between Perin & Peres.

There are a large number of Abraham(s) in Jamiaca.

If you want to explore this some more contact me at caryll@sympatico.ca.

Good hunting!
Dave Caryll

I am also an Abraham from Louisiana. My ggfather came from Manila to Louisiana around 1850. I'm not sure if there was a stop in between, but I've heard family talk of "the islands". The census showed him as a native Spanish speaker and he married Catarina (Katherine?) Peres.

Abrahams in Derryadd Armagh 1800s-1850s

I'm looking for information on my Great Grandfathers Parents and siblings. He was William John Abraham born 25th of April 1859.

His father Edward Abraham married Mary Castles 30th April 1858. Both from Derryadd and his father was John Abraham, hers was John Castles - I am looking for any connection really with Edward and Mary or John Castles and John Abraham.

Also William John had several siblings - I know the family line for Margaret Anne, Edward, Elizabeth, and I think for Deborah, but have nothing really for Hannah (born 12th April 1860) or Thomas (July 3rd 1871) or Robert James (I think - my grandfather mentioned him but no name on the birth cert) baptised 2nd April 1865.

The family above were all Church of Ireland. Elizabeth married into a Presbyterian family (john castles - butcher - Derrytaugh) and willaim john married a catholic in dublin - and thats how our line of the family began!

Many thanks
Rachel Abraham

I am researching my husband's family. His father was John Abraham son of Henry F. Abraham & Bertha Haferman. Henry F. Abraham was the son of John Abraham and Johanna Beduhn. I really could use help sorting out the various Abrahams and Beduhns. It seems that they inter married a lot. Thank you for any help that you could give me.

I do have some distant cousins, but have only found out about them through starting to trace my ancestors. They are all living up North and I know nothing about them.AS we are all in or around our Seventies it's more difficult for some of them to start communicating.
Rosemary's GG grandmother was sister to my GG grandmother
so we are cousins in some respect.
As I live in East Kent ,we pretty much have this county covered,if only we could find another branch of our tree in West Kent we could start a club.
