This is how the descendants go down from his son: Ignatius George Adolph, Adam Adolph, George Adam Adolph, Eugene Adam Adolph.

I believe all of these people, except for Balthasar, are buried in Suffiled (Randolph), OHIO at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

I am looking for information on Valentine Adolph b.1826 somewhere in Alsace. He married Elisabeth Schnell b. 1825 Kogenheim, Bas-Rhin, France. They came to America when my great-grandfather Valentine or (Fritz) was 15. b. France 1865. They settled in Madison Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio. All we know is they they lived "at the foot" of the Vosges when Fritz was a boy. They left for American because they didn't want Fritz to have to fight the Russians. We have one remaining direct descendant still living. Isabelle, Valentine's youngest daughter. She is 95 and was born in America. Her father was a farmer and ferryboat operator near Dresden, Ohio for many years. They were friends of the Beck family in France. Any help would be appreciated.
Karen Adolph

I am looking for information about Valentine Adolph, b.1826 France. His son, my great grandfather, Valentine or perhaps known as Fritz was born in France in 1865. Valentine's youngest daughter, Isabelle, who was born in the USA, is still living and is 95. She said her father told her they lived at the foot of the Vosges Mtns. That is all she knows. We know they came to American to avoid Fritz's having to fight the Russians at age 15. They settled in Madison Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio. We know that they knew some of the A.Beck family from the same area as our Adolphs. He states that our families were very close over the years. Any help would be greatly appreciated since we have many younger Adolph's who would like to trace our Family and make a Family Tree for their children. The death certificate for Valentine, born, 1826, says birthplace, unknown. Thanks in advance. Karen Adolph
Hi Dwayne:
Was excited to hear that I found a new cousin in Ohio. I remember my grandmother talking to me about her sister "Taunte Lillie". Down here in South Louisiana everyone was an Taunte or a Nonc (nonk)Aunt or Uncle. My grandfather was John Hernaut (Eno) Cancienne who married Rita Adolph. They lived in White Castle, La. until they passed on. My grandfather was an overseer on a sugar plantation in W.C. and my grandmother was a housewife. She was a character. I remember that she always "whistled while she worked" mostly "The Skater's Waltz" or "Waltz of the Vienna Woods". Guess it was in her genes. I live in Donaldsonville, La. now, which is between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. My mother and father have both passed away. I have been retired from Dow Chemical for 7 yrs. and loving it. Drop me a message tell me about yourself.

Cuzin' Mona

Hi Mona,

It's nice to hear from you. I don't think anyone in my Adolph family made it that far south - they seemed to remain in PA, but you never know. I found a JR Adolph online who lives in France, and he's been looking into the Adolph/Adolf families who came over. I haven't been able to go much further back than my ggggrandfather, who was also George Adolph and came from Northampton Co, PA. I'll keep your message, though, just in case there's a connection.

Sandy

Hi Sandy:
Just happened to log into the Adolph Family Message Board and saw the mention of Geo. Adolph. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather was a George Adolph, Jr. from Nats. France. He was born in 1779, d. July 7, 1835 in Thibodaux, La., sp. Catherine V. Boudrat. They had a son Geo. Trasimond Adolph b. Oct. l4, 1820 in Thibodaux, La., d. Feb. 8, 1861, sp. Louise Azena Bourg. Geo. Louise had a son Emile Adolph (my great grandfather)b. 1848, d. ?, Sp. Lelia Templet. They had 10 children: Ida b. 1892, Rita Adolph Cancienne (my grandmother)b. Dec. 7, 1882, Annie, Lillie, Eloise, Antoinette, George, Charles, Henry. Don't know if this is the same branch of the tree but you can look into it. I'd heard my dad mention someone coming from Alsace Lorraine but not sure who he was referring to. Let me know what you find.
Mona

He married Louressa Riale who was born in Bucks County PA. He died in a train accident - so I was told by my mother and aunts. When he came to this country I haven't a clue at this point. He was married long enough to have two or three children, my grandmother Laura. Sound familiar to anyone?

Hi,

I don't get to check my excite mail very often, so you can e-mail me directly at my home adress - xandezmom@aol.com, if you like. I'm still researching my Adolphs. george is the first I have reference to, and he and his wife Maria Fenstermacher lived in Lebanon County (PA)when their daughter (my ancestor) was born in 1850. Since then, I have found them in the census records of Berks Co (PA). So, you can see, I have much to do to find their ancestors. I plan a trip to PA in March to check out some other sources, so hopefully, I'll be able to give you more information on them. Keep in touch.
Sandy

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

What data exactly do you have on your Adolphs? Do you have the ship's list, date of arrival, firts place of residence?

Do you mean the US or Alsace when you say there are not many around anymore? In the US, there are definitely a lot, some of which I am in contact with.

As to Alsace, there are quite a few families around, but during the French Revolution (1789-92), the name became Adolf then Adolff (my current spelling).

Rossteig (could be Rosteig) is in the north of Alsace, on the provincial border with Lorraine. There are several places called Tieffenbach. Both are small though, which could explain why you can't find them on the atlas.
Have you tried the Microsoft Encarta Atlas? It has some tiny places on it. If you cannot find, let me know I will try to scan a map and send.

R

Hi,

I've been trying to track down where my Adolphs came from, but so far haven't been successful. I have George and Maria Fenstermacher Adolph living in Lebanon County in the mid-1850's, and then in Berks County after that. There don't seem to be many Adolphs around any more. Some of my other relatives did come from Alsace, though, from Tieffenbach and Rossteig. I can't find those towns in the atlas, though. They were Reidenauers and Windsteins.

Don't think I was much help, but please stay in touch. I'm still actively working on the Adolphs.

Hi
How is your research on the Adolphs going? I am trying to find information on my great great grandfather, Valentine Adolph. All we know is that they lived at the foot of the Vosges Mtns. at one time. And the village Dossenheim was mentioned. My great grandfather was also Valentine and he was 15 when they left Alsace to come to America through Ellis Island, late 1800's. My great Aunt, the younger Valentine's sister, was born in the USA and is still living at 95. She has no written information on her father as to where he was born (1826)and somewhere in Alsace-Lorraine? Her father married an Elisabeth Schnell from Artolsheim. Any help would be appreciated. I hope you found your Adolph's. Mine lived in Madison Township, Muskingum County, Ohio...near Zanesville. Thanks in advance! Karen Adolph

Valentine Adolph born in 1826, Artolsheim, (Bas-Rhin)
Elisabeth Schnell b. 1824-1825? Kogenheim, Bas-Rhin, France? (later to become Valentine's (1826) wife
Elisabeth's mother was Marie Francoise Andlauer and her father was Francois Joseph Schnell (if we have the correct Elsabeth)
(1910 Census) they had 4 children
Elizabeth (Lizzie) 1859, Valentine (Fritz) 1862 (my great grandfather), Sarah 1865, Susan (Katie) 1867.
The parents and children came to the United States through Ellis Island in 1872 to settle near Dresden, Ohio--Muskingum County, Madison Township.
I am trying to find the name of the village they lived in as married BEFORE they came to the United States because our belief is that they lived in Alsace-Lorraine and that isn't Kogenheim and Artolsheim. My Great Aunt, sister of Valentine (Fritz--who was 15 when they came to the U.S.), who is now 95, tells us the family lived at the foot of the Vosges mountains. Can someone help me with a name of a village, city, town...thanks in advance.
