Hi Katrina - this is a long shot as your message was posted way back in 2005. John and Sarah Ainsworth are my great grandparents. I am Irene (Ainsworth) Sergeant, grand-daughter of Caleb. Caleb is the brother of Enoch, Thomas and Margaret Ainsworth, all 3 immigrated to the USA. I have collected information re the 'dead' family members using ancestry.co.uk and .com and the records here in the UK. I am now searching for 'living' family members. I wuld appreciate hearing from you. My personal e-mail: sargi39@talktalk.net Hope to hear from you soon - Irene

Hello Linda-I am Irene Ainsworth Sergeant. I have just seen your message board for info re John & Sarah Ainsworth. They are my great grandparents. My grandfather is Caleb, brother of Enoch, Thomas and Margaret who all 3 immigrated into the USA. I am currently researching our family history, and I have had much success for the family members who are dead and are declared on USA census upto 1930. It is a while since you posted your message (2005) but I hope that you still check your message box. I have assembled a lot of details re Ainsworth family both in the USA and England. I would appreciate hearing from you. My personal e-mail is sargi39@talktalk.net Hope to hear from you soon - Irene

This is a long shot but I am trying it anyway. Arthenia is shown to have been b. 1836 Smith Co MS then had three marriages 1:?Stevenson, 2: Benjamin Hulett, 3: Caleb Tatum. I have an Artheney in the 1870 census married to James E. Hulett in Homer,Angelina,TX. Her children living in this household are last name Tatum born in LA. I found Arthenia married to Caleb Tatum in LA in 1860, children's names match to 1870 census. There is also listed in the children Leecie Bowen age 9 in 1870. This is my great grandmother and I am trying to find her parents. If anyone knows the connection I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

I know that's not the date you're looking for but they seemed to have named sons after uncles in our branch of the family. He was the son of James Henry Ainsworth, 1794-1860 and Betsy Fish 1794-1873. Is there any connection with yours?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Sue

Hello,
I am searching for my greatgrandfather. A long story....I believe, that he was the son of George and Mary Ainsworth, and they were living in Amesbury, MA in 1870, George was born circa 1852-53. In 1880, George and Benjamin show up in Manchester, NH and they are working in a 'wooling mill'....cannot find George Ainsworth after that....however, my grandfather George Benjamin 'Ellsworth' (my father's name was also George Benjamin)..told me when I was about 7 years old, 'you know, our name used to be 'Ainsworth'....George married Harriet Whipple between 1882-1885, he lived with the Whipple family until approx. 1900, they had two children together, (George B, and Dora aka Daisey Belle) he left New York, (grandfather says he 'deserted' the family and went back to MA), where he started another family...which cannot be verified....he became ill, asked to come back to upstate NY (Chestertown, town of Chester, Warren County) but grandfather told him to 'kiss off'...George Ellsworth cannot be found on any census after the 1892 New York census, however, old deeds show him in this area until 1899 or 1900...does any of this sound familiar to anyone? My father's family was VERY tight-lipped about great-grandfather. Family lore says he was an 'alcoholic and gambler.' Thanks! Robert

Thank you for replying. I have tried to get the 2 Ainsworth males that I know to do DNA but so far - no go. They are grandsons of William Walter Ainsworth whose father was Frank Lane. At this point I do not think there is any chance of them participating. If I see them at their Nov 2009 reunion, I will try once again to get them to participate.

Re: Cunes Ainsworth or Cune Ainsworth, unsure of spelling? from Smith County, MS

Albert L. Ainsworth, whose nickname was Coon, was a grandson of Thomas Hainsworth & Sarah Finch. They were living in Washington Co., AL in the 1830 Census. Before the 1840 census, they moved to Smith Co., MS. Due to their presence in Washington Co., AL, most researchers have linked them as family to the other Ainsworths in that area.

Frank Lane appears to be a grandson of Joab Ainsworth & an unknown first wife. His family lived in the Butler Co., AL area.

Some researchers claim that Joab & his brothers, Richard Nathaniel, Caswell & Levin, were sons of Thomas & Sarah. The census records do not support this claim. The one way to prove a relationship would be through DNA testing. The one descendant of Thomas Hainsworth/Ainsworth who has joined the DNA project does not match with any ot the other Ainsworth men in the test group. We need to find another proven descendant of Thomas, a descendant of Joab or one of his brothers, and a descendant of Frank Lane Ainsworth who are males with the Ainsworth surname. If we could get these men to join the DNA project, we would be able to prove or disprove the claims of relationship.

Everything would be so much easier for us if the early censuses had named all of the members of each household.
This Levin Ainsworth was born in about 1887 in Texas. I am trying to find out if there is a connection. Her fathers name was the only link that I have. My fathers side of the family were very closed mouth. AJ Ainsworth was all that I had for many years. I recently learned that his name was Andrew.

This is something to consider:
It appears that Zelmer could have been born about the same time as the incident with your grandmother. It is possible that she was not insane, considering the deed she did, could have been related simply to post partum depression. In the early 1900's, it had not yet become a 'diagnosis', and many acts like this placed a female in a mental institute. Post Partum Depression, does not have to occur immediately after birth, could happen months down the road.
As a retired mental health nurse, I would accept the above as the most possible explanation. Many females were wrongly placed, so chin up and reconsider your 'insane' thoughts ::: please.

The book, Trinity County Beginnings, contains this explanation of how Nannie ended up in the asylum.
"While he slept Nanny melted lead and poured it into his right ear. Although not killing him, it rendered him deaf in that ear. She was promptly committed to the State Asylum."

I have information on his parents and siblings if you are interested.

Located in Terrell, Kaufman Co., Tx age 50 in Terrell State Hospital, Kaufman co., Tx.

Another possible clue to this family is Myrtle Ray Ainsworth,(if this is the correct person?)b. May 5, 1908 Tx., d. Jan 14, 1988 Meced California and a possible marriage surname of Morris?? the info states that her mothers maiden name is/was Haynes.

Hopefully this helps you some and is correct.
