As I am getting to the age where it is probable that I will not get it published, I want to provide an outline of what I have researched over the past 50 plus years.

The ENSLEY FAMILY was probably originally spelled AINSLEY and sometimes appears as ANSLEY in North Carolina records.

SOLOMON ANSLEY was supposedly born in England about 1710
and is said to have been the son of JOHN ANSLEY (b.ca. 1680, England.) He made his will in Tyrrell Co., NC, Aug.27,1750.

To my daughter MARY ANSLEY the female cattle with her mark and their increase. To my daughter SARAH ANSLEY the female cattle with her mark and their increase. To my daughter ELIZABETH ANSLEY all the cattle with her mark. To my daughter ANN ANSLEY all the female cattle with her mark and the males after she becomes 16 years of age. To my son JOHN my plantation with the land joining Poplar Branch and . . .? and the female cattle with his mark after he becomes 16 years of age. To my son JOSEPH the upper part of my land joining Poplar Branch to the patent line; also the female cattle with his mark as also the males after he becomes 16 years of age. To my daughter RACHEL 1 feather bed & furniture. To my daughter EASTER ANSLEY 1 bed & furniture. To wife SARAH ANSLEY part of estate. Executor: Wife. Signed SOLOMON ANSLEY. Wit: Saml. Spruill Sr; Matthew Carswell; Samuel Spruill Jr. Probated March Court 1750. [Bradley, Tyrrell County, North Carolina Wills, 1729-1811, p. 6]

SOLOMON ANSLEY married SARAH EASTER (b.ca. 1714, England) and she died after 1750.

JOSEPH ANSLEY, son of SOLOMON ANSLEY and SARAH EASTER, calls himself "planter" in his will which he made Oct. 1, 1800. To my son JOSEPH ANSLEY the use of my plantation until ENOCH ANSLEY son of EDWARD ANSLEY becomes 21 years & then to be returned in good order for farming, & if the sd ENOCH who is living in Tennessee personally appears in Tyrrell County I give him the plantation & land excepting the island. To JOSHUA McKAB 1/4 my corn in the field, the hogs & sheep that are called his, 1 yearling heifer, 1 feather bed & furniture. To my granddaughter JOANNA ANSLEY daughter of EDWARD ANSLEY 1 negro Hanna, when she comes to lawful age. My negro woman Abb & her increase from this date & negro boy Jack be sold & the proceeds, when my grandson ENOCH ANSLEY when comes of lawful age, be divided among my grandchildren JOANNAH ANSLEY daughter of JOSEPH ANSLEY, JOHN ANSLEY, ELIZABETH ANSLEY, DANIEL ANSLEY, AMELA (sic) ANSLEY, ASA ANSLEY until such, negroes to he hird out & the money added to the proceeds from their sale. To my son, JOSEPH ANSLEY the remainder of the estate, whcih is the i sland land, Juniper Swamp, all the livestock, household & kitchen furniture. Executors: My son JOSEPH ANSLEY, ASA PHELPS. Wit: N. Bateman; Joseph Tarkinton (sic); James Powers. Back of will notes that JOSEPH ANSLEY, SR. signed. Probated Oct Ct. 1800. [Bradley, p. 5f]

I have not located a marriage bond for JOSEPH ANSLEY, son of SOLOMON and SARAH EASTER ANSLEY. Since both EDWARD and JOSEPH, his sons, named daughters JOANNA, his wife could have been named JOANNA. He was the father of:

EDWARD ANSLEY who died in May 1794, Tyrrell Co., NC., having married NAOMI DAVIS, June 12, 1788, Simeon Spruill, bondsman, T. Mackey, witness.

At the April Court 1797, Petition of HENRY ALEXANDER and his wife, NEOMEY (formerly NEOMEY ANGLEY). Petition states that EDWARD ANGLEY (sic) died Mary 1794 owning 100 acres on Scopernong (sic) River at Cross Landing. Sd. NEOMEY was wife of sd. HENRY ALEXANDER who died intestate. Petition for dower. Negro girl Sal mentioned in a judgment of Thomas Jethro against the estate. JOSEPH ANSLEY, JR. brought an action against the estate.

NOTE THAT The Clerk recorded an error calling ALEXANDER as dying intestate, instead of EDWARD ANSLEY. It is obvious that HENRY and NAOMI could not have brought suit had he died.

April 26,1797, Bonds for Joseph Tarkinton (sic) to be guardian of ENOCH ANSLEY & to ANNA ANSLEY, orphans of EDWARD ANSLEY, decd. Bondsmen: Asa Phelps, John Armstrong.

NAOMI DAVIS ANSLEY (ENSLEY) married HENRY ALEXANDER, as his second wife, November 19, 1795, with Joel Norman, bondsman and S. Chesson, witness. [Norman was Henry's first wife's brother]

HENRY ALEXANDER and NAOMI DAVIS ANSLEY brought her two ENSLEY children with them to Davidson Co., TN, settling in Nashville. They had three more children: (A) JERUSHA ALEXANDER who married (1) MILTON SCHOLL/SHOLL; (2) WILLIAM HAMILTON HAGANS; (B) MARTHA ALEXANDER: (C) PARKER ALEXANDER.

After HENRY died, NAOMI married as her third husband and his second wife, ARTHUR BLAND, Feb. 16, 1808, Davidson CO., TN.

NAOMI and ARTHUR BLAND had two more children: (A) JOSEPH A. BLAND; and (B) ZILPHA P. BLAND

JOANNA ENSLEY (called ANNA in the guardian report) married as her first husband, THOMAS LANE, Aug 6, 1810, Davidson Co., TN. She later married a second husband, Mr. KELLY, and apparently had at least one son, ENOCH KELLY.

ENOCH ENSLEY married MARY RAINS, Oct. 19, 1822, Davidson Co.,TN.

My own descent is from JERUSHA ALEXANDER and her first husband, MILTON SCHOLL/SHOLL, by whom she had two children: (1) JOH SHOLL amd (2) MARTHA JANE SHOLL, who married as his third wife, JOHN WILLIAM ALLEN.

MARTHA JANE and JOHN WILLIAM had a son, EUGENE LEONIDAS ALLEN, who married as his first wife, MARY AMANDA BOWEN, daughter of JEREMIAH BOWEN and REBECCA SUSAN BUCHANAN.

Their elder son, FRANK SPIVEY ALLEN, married as his first wife and her first husband, TABITHA GREEN POWELL, daughter of JOHN MICHAEL POWELL and NANCY EMMALINE WINFORD.

Their only daughter was EMMA RUTH ALLEN who married JONAS JACKSON CARVER.

I am their son.

ROBERT POWELL CARVER (b. October 14, 19XX)
----------END

October 14, 1935)
----------END

I am searching for descendants of Joseph Arcadio Ansley who was born 12 Jan 1837 in Havana, Cuba. He was a dentist who attended dental school in Baltimore, Maryland. His father was John Alexander (or Bautista) Ansley from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother was Carmen Llanes from San Julian de los Guines, Havana Province, Cuba.

Joseph was married to Joaquina Chaves. Joseph and two sons, Luis Maria (b. 10 Nov 1868 in Sagua la Grande) and Aurelio Ansley y Chaves (b. 02 Dec 1862 in Havana), were arrested by Spanish authorities at Sagua la Grande, Cuba and expelled to Tampa, Florida in 1895, apparently because they were involved (or suspected) in the Cuban freedom fight. I do not know when (or if) they returned to Cuba.

Other children were Christina (b. abt. 1859 in Cienfuegos)- married to an unknown Santana, Isabel (b. abt. 1864 in Havana), Maria (b. abt. 1869 in Havana), and Lucretia (b. abt. 1873 in Guines). Christina was living in Cienfuegos in the first decade of the 1900's.

I am descended from John Alexander Ansley through another son, Juan Francisco Ansley y Llanes.
Betty Lou Dehl Ansley of Ohio & Florida

Looking for information on Betty Lou Dehl Ansley.

Betty married into the Ansley family sometime in the 1940’s or 50’s.

I'm looking for any information pertaining to her husband and any children they "or" she may have had.

Below is some back ground history on Betty Lou:
Birth: 6 Jan 1925 in Brookside, Belmont County, Ohio.
Death: 4 Sep 1995 in Flagler Beach, Flagler County, Florida.
Betty grew up in: Tuscarawas County, Ohio (Dover New Philadelphia area).

Mother: Mildred L Singerman
(DOD: 17 Nov 1927 Tuscarawas County, Ohio)

Father: Louis Francis Dell'Arciprete (Diehl)
(DOD: 9 Aug 1969 - Akron, Ohio)

Brother: John Allen "Jack" Dehl
(DOD: 11 Mar 2006 - Ocala, Marion, Florida)

Betty Lou and brother's birth name is really Diehl. After the death of their mother they were raised by their grandmother Sarah Kline Singerman, changing the children’s last name from Diehl to Dehl.

Betty Lou's husband may be from the Tuscarawas County, Ohio area; so it is likely they married in Ohio moving to Florida. I think her husband had a career in the armed forces (army, Navy, etc...) but not sure.

Betty Lou and John "Jack" are my half siblings. Because of the age different, we never really had the chance to get to know each other. We have the same father.

Thank you,
Emmett Ronald Diehl

Yes there are plenty of Ansleys in Jacksonville, Florida. My great grandmother married a man named Dallas Ansley and they had plenty of kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren. All I know is he's from Georgia and I believe Macon and he has a brother here and they have plenty of children. There are some other Ansleys in California and alot from Georgia, and I was also told that there was a family reunion and there were black and white people there and even in the graveyard in Georgia they are laid side by side.

I am a descendant in the Asa Ansley line. My greatgrandmother was Mary Francis(b.1835-d.1909) one of Asa's daughters. She married Lausen Adkins in 1868. She named her only son James Elbert(my grandfather); apparantly for her older brothers.

I have a photo, attached, that pictures a man sitting at a desk in an office; perhaps a law office, that I found in my grandfather's things. I have been unable to identify it.

I'm looking for help. Does anyone recognize this guy? Does he have the physical attributes of Ansley males in that line?

I'd appreciate any help.

Regards,
Harris

Also am fascinated by statements on two trees posted on Rootsweb that their son John Ansley, Jr. was murdered in 1862, one says "in Calcutta, OH," the other "nr. Blackhawk, Beaver Co., PA."
Re: Information on James Aaron Ansley

Hello, I can help you with your Ansley family somewhat. Your great-grandfather, Waymon Pickney Ansley, was born in Clarksville, Habersham Co GA (per one of your uncles, Jim Armour). He married Annie Leon Moore in 1922 in Pickens Co SC ... the marriage in Germany, likely, was your grandfather, James Aaron Ansley, who married Barbara "Louise" Held (she was born in Germany about 1934).
Your Ansley line, from Waymon Pickney Ansley, goes like this: Augustus "Gus" Ansley (wife Bessie), Hugh Tolbert Ansley (wife Rebecca Isdale), Jesse Morris Ansley (wife Sarah Josephine Stanford), Abel Ansley (wife Lydia Harrison Morris), Thomas Ansley (wife Rebecca Cox), and William Ansley (wife Rebecca ?). William was in Monmouth Co New Jersey in 1735, when he joined Old Tennant Presbyterian Church. Thomas was born in 1737 and was baptized in that church (still in existance today). Visit my website at http://ansley-family-assn.org for lots more info...I'll be happy to help you also.

I saw a TV program "If Walls Could Talk" on 8/14/06. The current owners of the farm discovered that at least two genereations of Ansleys had lived at Sunset View Farm in the Poconos in the 1800s and that their ancestors had come in the 1700s to, I believe, CT.

I have not done enough research yet but know that Henry Peters (4 generations back) married an Elizabeth Ansley or Ainsley from PA so I recognized the name and hope this information may be of help to someone.

The program was on the Home and Garden Channel whose web address is HGTV.com

The Vilardi family (current owners) shared a lot of information they had found.

I am looking for information on a marriage between Charlotte Elizabeth Smith and an unknown Ansley. They were married about 1909 and I am not sure if it was in Iowa or maybe somewhere else. Charlotte also went by Lottie, Elizabeth and Charlotte. She was born in 1877 to Chris and Laura Smith. Any information would be helpful. I do not think that Charlotte had any childrenas she died while living in Californai with her sister. Thanks

I believe that Clara gave this Bible to her son Woodrow and he passed it on to one of his children. I do not know of any of their names.
I had struck out on the Ansley web page about Sarah. Thanks to your help, I'm onto a lead that her father was a William Ansley. I know from files on her husband, Thomas Atkins, that she had at least three children: Robert Atkins (b. 12 Mar 1824, d. 13 Nov 1905 in Rush Co., IN); Sarah Margaret Atkins (b. 10 Jul 1829 in SC, m. 8 Jun 1851 in Rush Co., IN to James Hudelson, d. 22 Dec 1905 in Washington, D.C.); and William Atkins (b. 5 May 1834 in Fairhaven, OH, d. 24 Sep 1889 in Rush Co., IN). Sarah Atkins was my great grandmother.

Much as I'd like to attend the Ansley reunion, I've got a schedule conflict that will prevent it this year. Regards, Dave

I wonder if anybody out there has information about the parents and/or siblings of Sarah Ansley, bory 15 Oct 1805 in Abbeville, SC. She is my gggreatmother.
Sarah Ansley on 9 Jun 1823 married Thomas Atkins in Abbeville. At least the first two of her seven children were born there; the last three were born in Rush County, IN.
Sarah's second child Sarah Margaret Atkins was born 10 Jun 1829 in Abbeville, married 8 Jun 1851 to James Hudelson in Rush County, IN, and died 22 Dec 1905 in Washington, D.C., at the home of her daughter.
Sarah Atkins's firstborn was Ansley Scot Hudelson, born 20 Sep 1852, died 17 May 1853 (His middle name might suggest that his grandmother Sarah Ansley's mother was a Scott). Sarah Atkins's lastborn was Hugh Martin Hudelson, my grandfather.
I notice there are a lot of Ansley's in north Georgia, not far from Abbeville, SC Any connection there?
I'd welcome any information. Thank you, Dave

Your note is very intriguing, Eileen. Actually the SCOTT side of this family group emigrated to Ontario in the 1830s, settling in Ayr.

I'm in touch with someone researching the TELFER/TELFORD cousins, who's unaware of any of them emigrating but it's certainly possible.

The HENDERSON line, to which Mary ANSLEY belongs, remained in Northumberland as far as we know. (And yes, it certainly could be AINSLEY .. I've only got her handwritten signature to go from so it's hard to be sure).

What part of South Western Ontario are you in?
(I'm in Quebec, BTW)

- Joan

Hello from South Western Ontario, Canada,
Your note about Ansley's intrigued me. In our community the names that you mentioned, Scott, Telfer, Charlton and Robson were very common names here in the early 1800's. Some are still here. I am not researching the family you are interested in but do you think that the Ansley name may be the same name as Ainsley? There were two Ainsley women married to men who were from your part of the country. One was Isabella and the other was Elspeth. Isabella was married to Henry Scott and Elspeth was married to Christopher Waugh. Their son, Robert Waugh was married to a great great Aunt of mine, Margaret Robson who was born in Cumbria in the Lancercost Parish about 1812.
I have friends who have done a lot of research on the Waugh's.
Pardon me for taking your time. I am just curious about the Ainsley name. Telfers came to our community in about 1820. They are a very musical family and over the years have contributed a lot to the community. My nephew, a Robson, is about to marry a Telford (not related to the Telfers as far as we know).
Sincerely, Eileen.

Mary ANSLEY, Northumberland, Eng., late 1800s

Is anyone researching an ANSLEY family in Northumberland?

I have family history notes written by a Mary ANSLEY in the 1940s. In them she refers to her great-grandparents, Alexander Brown HENDERSON (b. ca 1824) and Harriet PATTERSON, great-uncles John & Adam HENDERSON (b. ca 1812 & 1818), and uncle William HENDERSON (b. ca 1864).

I believe Mary was born after 1891.
I don't know if ANSLEY was her maiden or married name.

It appears that she was living in Northumberland at the time she wrote the letter. The HENDERSON family had lived there for several generations - originally in the Bellingham area.

Other surnames in the extended family are SCOTT, TELFORD (or TELFER), CHARLTON, and ROBSON.

I have a good deal of information on the HENDERSON side of Mary's family, but am unable to place her on the tree exactly. I'm hoping an ANSLEY researcher might be able to help out.
This is an old post. Sorry I did not notice and respond sooner. Virginia "Jennie" Ansley married Charles Thomas Jackson in Henderson County, TX. He was son of James T. Jackson and Mariah Louisa Kendrick. James T. Jackson and my husband's great-grandmother, Mary A. "Mollie" Jackson were brother and sister. Mollie married Lemuel L. Ansley, who was a distant relative of Jennie's father. I have more info on the Jacksons and Ansleys in Henderson County and some church records from Henderson County, TX. if you are interested.
