CORTLAND, Ohio - Thomas W. Apthorpe Sr., 70, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 4, 2011, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, Ohio.(Trumbull County)

He was born March 30, 1940, in Orangeville, Ohio the son of Thomas H. and Nellie Eva Haun Apthorpe.

After working 22 years for Copperweld Steel in Warren, Ohio he retired in 1986 as a millwright.

He formerly attended Maranatha Church in Warren, Ohio.
He was a member of the Pymatuning Valley Resort and the Mecca Moose Lodge 1012.

He enjoyed hunting, shopping, traveling, watching TV, playing cards and was quite a jokester.

He married JoAnn Morrison on Dec. 13, 1959.
She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Waid Apthorpe, whom he married Nov. 28, 2009; a daughter, Denise K. Simpson of Cortland, Ohio; two sons, Thomas W. (Melissa) Apthorpe Jr. of Fowler and Roger (Carrie) Apthorpe of Shawnee Hills; two stepsons, Jeffrey Waid of Bristolville and James Waid of Cortland, Ohio; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Bently of Sharon, Pa., and Shirley Giering and Patricia Fonce, both of Cortland, Ohio; and a brother, Terry Apthorpe of Niles, Ohio.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mabel and Bonnie.

Friends and relatives may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 state Route 7, Hartford, Ohio 44424.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Vernon.
