Sarah AUSTIN b. abt 1740

On 16 July 1761 Sarah AUSTIN married John Turnpenny ALTREE in King's Norton, Worcestershire and she died in 1803 in Wolverhampton. The marriage produced six children that I am aware of: Sarah is my Gtx4 grandmother.

However, I have been unable to trace Sarah's parents, siblings or ancestors. Any information or pointers will be very much appreciated.

I am descended from Richard(sen) Austin, b. VA migrated to GA. Richard m. Ann Heard, d/o John Heard in GA. They had John Austin and Jane Austin. John m. Fannie (Francis) Crittenden in 1788 in Richmond County, (either GA or VA). They were parents of Richard Austin who migrated with his parents to MS. He m. Joannah Ferguson, and moved on over into North Louisiana to Ouachita Parish (later Union)by 1820. His son, Jackson Austin, m. Amanda Jackson I have traced him back to John Austin of Lunenburg County, VA, and from there back to Kent, England. Have had my DNA done to prove the connection.
Is this related to your Richard Austin?

Stephen & Moses were descended from Richard Austin, a tailor, who migrated to the East Coast in 1638. They are not part of our Austins as far as I can discover. Their families became involved in shipping, many were sea captains in Boston and Connecticut ports.

Moses died before 1835, leaving Stephen to carry on his work in getting Mexico's permission to settle the land grant he received. Neither of them "founded" Austin, TX, although it was named for Stephen F. Austin.

It has been said that Moses and Stephen where related to the Austins of White Co., TN. I have heard stories of their stop in White Co., TN, tring to recruit families to move to Texas. My Great great grandmother would not go so her family stayed in Tennessee.

Hello Terry,

Elenor was born about 1830. She is listed in the 1891 England Census she was born in Sheldwich, Kent,I do not know what her maiden name was. At the time of the census I believe she lived in Dunkirk, County Kent. She had two granddaughters living with her, Emily C. Austin age 21 and Florence Filmer age 8. Florence was my grandmother.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for replying to my question re Elenor Austin. If this this the right Elenor she would be my gggrandmother. My grandmother was raised by an Elenor Austin who would have been her grandmother. Her name was Florence Filmer and she was the illigimate daughter of a Frederick Filmer. If you have any info on Elenor Austin I would greatly appreciate it.

I am researching the origins of the Austin name - and contrary to what you have read on the Internet the name did not start with Augustinian monks but was much earlier than that. Few if anyone has ever done any serious research on this name.

The Austins of Europe originated near Villengen in what is now Germany around 600BC, migrated up to the territory of the Catti Clan in Hesse and formed some unknown bond there. Together with the Catti Clan they migrated North. The Catti went to Caithness in Scotland where they became the Keiths and the Austins went to the Colchester area of England - however they reteined a common clan kilt called the Austin and Keith Kilt to this day - the oldest battle kilt in Scotland.

The tracing into the distant past involves genetics so if you are an Austin and you know your genetic Y haplogroup AND it is R1b1b2a1b - please contact me if your known tree of ancestors is prior to Robert Austin 1771 Surrey England or you connect into the attached tree.

I'm looking for a connection between the AUSTIN and WOODY families in this part of Virginia in the late 18th century. Specifically, i'm interested in two men named Austin WOODY, born about 1795-1800 and about 1826 respectively, who may be father and son, or perhaps uncle and nephew. They appear in census records in Nelson and Albemarle counties.

The use of Austin as a given name suggests there may be a connection to the AUSTIN family. Is anyone aware of an AUSTIN - WOODY marriage or other relationship?

John and Charity Austin and my Thomas Wilson Austin b.1796 have the same DNA, but I cannot find the connection. We think Thomas' father was William who resided in Georgetown, D.C. Thomas grew up there and married 1916 to Mary and moved to Zanesville, Ohio and then to Terra Haute, Ind. where he died and is buried. Mary died about 1840 and he married Ann Chinn of Va. Hi I am related to John and Mary brown Austin.MY gg was Thomas and my g was william Austin.John and Mary came to the US in 1854 out of Belfast.I think that Johns mother and Father were James and Elizabeth kelly austin.I also know that the were from Scotland and that the Austins were a sept of clan Keith.It would seem that they went back and forth.I think that the Austins came to Ireland during the plantation period.I did find some mention of a George Austin 1659 in Ireland.I dont know where Johns brothers and sisters went.I would love to exchange information with you.I have some copies of documents showing Jmes and John paying taxes in county Down.I hope to hear from you Ron Austin

We're searching for any information on Frankie J. Dixon Austin, born June 6, 1904 in Warwick, GA, and her husband Charles L. Austin, born abt. 1898 in Tennessee. He owned the Austin Hotel in Miami, FL in the 1930s and they resided in Miami, FL at least up until 1945. Mrs. Dixon also used the name June Robertson and was possibly previously married to a Charles Robert Shields of Georgia, with whom she had a son Charles James Shields. The son was eventually placed in a children's home and many years later adopted and took the name Charles James King. Mrs. Dixon/Robertson/Austin was never heard from again. Perhaps anyone who knew the Austins would know the rest of the story. Thank you.

The 1900 census shows a Rollins Austin, b. Aug. 1853 in MI. in Onawa, Monona Co., Iowa with wife Leola W. The 1860 & 1870 census of Michigan shows a Rollin Austin, b. abt. 1854 living with Daniel & Martha Austin. They are in Texas, Kalamazoo Co., MI. in 1870 & in Antwerp, Van Buren Co., MI. in `60.

An Ancestry.com member tree has Rollin Austin b. Aug. 1853 in MI. as a son of Daniel Austin & Martha Myranda Irish.
This WorldConnect database has this Austin family & follows the Irish family back several generations.

Austin family, Louisiana & Alabama

I'm trying to find out info about my grandparents and there family. My grandfather’s mother was named Josephine Austin. Her parents were named George and Betsy Austin. I also know that her father George Austin who is known to have been Cherokee Indian. Betsy and George Austin are from Richmond, Virginia. Their daughter Josephine Austin married a man that went by Red Walker and they lived in Alberta, Alabama. They had my grandfather Jimmie “Quick” Walker (now known as Jim Walker) and his brother Sylvester Walker who were born on a plantation. I have info that George Austin had relatives named Ed Austin. He has two kids that I know of named John and George Austin. Below are the names and birth dates that I have for some family members. I would appreciate any assistance with my search. I have attached a jpg that list the names, d.o.b. and death.

Hi Shirley,

It has been years since I've picked up my search for my family history. I apologize for the lateness of this response. With the recent passing of my Grandfather, I've been moved once again to start searching for my grandfathers family once again. I have come across the name Fannie Walker alot in the last couple of days from the Indian Rolls (Choctaw-Alabama)to the Walker Message Boards.

The only information that I have in regards to the Austin-Walker connection is my grandpa's(Jim Walker)mother Josephine Austin whose parents were George and Betsy Austin. I know that they were living in the Selma, Al area around June of 1915 and in the Mobile, Al area around 1933. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And again, sorry for the delayed response.

I found the BIBLE in the library of our church (OLD TENNENT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH of Tennent, N.J.). When I saw all of the information inside, I asked our Minister if it was o.k. if I found the Bibles Family and returned this treasure to them. This is FREE, I ask nothing in return! I just want to make sure that it goes to the correct AUSTIN/PUTNAM/PHILLIPS/YOUNG, etc. Family. As a genealogy researcher myself, I know how treasured and precious this BIBLE would be to the Grandchildren and their generations to follow.

A Lucille Austin, age 13, b. PA. appears on the 1930 census in Porter, Clarion Co., PA with parents William & Jennie. They are on pg. 7b. Other children in the home were Wilda, 16, Fred, 14, & Lillian 11. A Frank White, age 18, is living with his parents John & Cora not far from the Austins in Porter. They are on pg. 5b.

There is an Ancestry Member Tree posted by Frank Murdock that has the William Austin family. William`s wife was Jennie Lavely. Their children were Wilda, Fred, Lucille & Lillian. William`s parents were Alonzo Austin & Sarah Woods, according to this tree.
