I think Nolan Austin`s father was named Cleveland, not Clarence. The 1920 census of Hubble, Cape Girardeau Co., Missouri shows Cleave Austin, age 29, with wife Florence & children Nolan, 10, b. KY. & Geraldine, 6, b. MO. Also in the home is Cleave`s sister Hattie Brown, a widow, age 19. Cleave & Hattie were born in KY. There are a few databases at WorldConnect that show this family. One is here:
http://tinyurl.com/yhtl44v There are also a few Member Trees at Ancestry.com with this family. Cleveland Austin`s full name was Fletcher Cleveland Austin. If you are a member of Ancestry you can search for that name & you should find those trees.

Pat R.

I am trying to help a friend trace his family of Austin's.
He was born April 6, 1909 in Wickliff Kentucky. his father was Clarence Austin and Florence ---. There is a possibility that he was adopted. He married Doris Evelene Debolt. She was the daughter of Clarence Debolt and Ruby Smith.
If anyone can help us it would be great.
Thanks

Very strong possibility he was my Great Great Uncle - brother of John Gardiner and my Great Great Grandfather, Hugh Williams Austin. My Great Grandfather - Captain ( Indian Army) William Campbell Austin was married to Elizabeth Harriet Hill. My Grandmother was born in Burma, (then India) - William Campbell was born in Demarara, British Guiana.

We are still researching who his mother might have been as his 2 wives came along at later dates than the 1846 of William Campbell's birth

From Chriistine Green (nee Hoare)

PS are you the Stuart John Piercy, born in 1959, elecrical fitter still of Crawley, Sussex as noted in the Austin history - An Old Colonial Family 4th edition

I am looking for information regarding my great grandfather George Austin. He seems to be a mystery thus far. The information I have is that he was born in Massachusetts
April 11,1858. He claimed to have owned a home in North Adams, although I cannot find evidence of such. He married Amy Austin, who was from England. And they located to Sidney, Maine in 1908-1909.

Austins from Ireland in the southern states

I am trying to find more info on the origins of Austins in Ireland. My great *4 grandfather, James Austin, was born in Ireland in 1760 and fought in the British Legion during the American Revolution. Many of the soldiers in this regiment were recruited amongst Loyalist militias in the Carolinas, so I am wondering if anyone knows of:
a) Austins families from Ireland who settled in the southern regions of the US
b)where in Ireland any of the Austin families came from

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Some Maine Austins

I have no connection to any of these families. I am just posting info. I have come across while volunteering at the historical society. This is by no means a complete list, only the ones I was able to obtain. I have discovered the hard way that within a certain span of time, if you don’t have the date and place of death, it’s hard to track someone down.

Some of the names that appear to be maiden names may very well be married names and the other name given be the maiden name – at least it tells you a date and place of death – a good starting point. This is all the info. I have on these people although I do have a number of vital record books for the Knox County (Maine) area and would be willing to do a quick lookup or two. I am typing in literally hundreds of these entries so please be as specific as possible if you need a lookup.

Aaron M. Austin died June 2, 1899 in Rockland, Maine at the age of 59 years, 1 mo., 7 days. His wife was Augusta M. Ford of Toledo, Ohio. Aaron’s profession was dentistry. Aaron was born in Thomaston, the son of Merritt and Eleanor (Bartlett) Austin. He is buried in Thomaston in the Protestant cemetery.

Alfred B.S. Austin died (drowned) Aug. 5, 1894 on Mark Island at the age of 20 years, 3 months, 9 days. Alfred was born in Thomaston, the son of Aaron M. and Augusta M. (Ford) Austin (see above). He is buried in Thomaston.

John M. Austin died Feb. 6, 1912 in Thomaston, Maine. He is buried in Thomaston.

Margaret (Bennett) Austin died Nov. 6, 1921 in Rockland. She is buried in the Thomaston Catholic Cemetery

Maynard Sumner Austin died June 22, 1913 in So. Thomaston. He was a member of the Masons. Maynard is buried in the Thomaston Village Cemetery.

Melvin D. Austin died June 3, 1916 in Chelsea, Mass. He is buried in the Catholic cemetery in Thomaston.

My grandfather, Richard Austin, whose mother was Narcissa Hodge and father Joseph Austin, lived and died in Rapides Parish, LA. Joseph was killed in the battle of Mansfield during the Civil War, leaving four children, Joseph Jr., Isaiah, Fayette, and Richard (the youngest). We have always thought that Narcissa was an Indian, but no proof. She was called Grandma Rae, and received a pension of $8,00 monthly from the State of Louisiana until her deah. Richard had four children, one who died as a child, another, named Anderson was killed in a gunfight in which
my father participated, Richard, Jr., and my mother Alice.
I have no connection to this family. This appeared in the March 27, 1851 Lime Rock Gazette (Rockland, Maine):

"Shipwreck and loss of Life.

Baltimore, March 19th

The ship Robena, from Liverpool, bound for Baltimore, has gone ashore off Cape Henry, and is now lying in a dangerous position. Five of her cabin passengers were drowned in the surf while attempting to land. A Bitish barque, name not ascertained, loaded with railroad iron, is ashore near the same place.

The steamer Relief has gone down to her assistance.

Later - The Robena has a heavy cago of salt and iron, and has on board one hundred passengers. On the 20th ult, lost overboard Frederick Austin, a seaman. The Robena ran ashore on Cape Henlopen on Monday. Hopes are ascertained that the vessel will be got off. She is insured for $50000 in this city. Among those drowned were two ladies."

Re: Can someone fill in the blanks?

It appears that you have most of the lbanks filled that I might have any knowledge of. however, it needed, I can supply some info. about George's parents and about the Carpenters. George was the older brother to my great grandfather, William Tudor who married Eliza Carpenter. Eliza Carpenter's brother, Samuel Davis Carpenter, Jr. married Phoebe Tudor, sister to George, and William Tudor.
My notes on George Tudor: George, this compiler's gg uncle served as a Pvt. in Co. A of the 11th KY Cav. Union. Thanks to an abstract by Carla Pigman, a Whittaker family member, we know that he went to Indiana in about 1869 as that is what he said in his affidavit in support of John Martin Whittaker's application for a pension due to disability resulting from his service in the same Co. A 11th KY Cav. At that time George was age 57, resident of Letts Corner in the County of Decatur and state of Indiana. Dated February 2, 1901.
He declares the following:
" That he has been acquainted with claimant since boyhood and was both members of Co. A 11th Ky. Cav. That on the night of Jan Ist 1864 not being allowed any fire on account of danger from enemy said Whittaker and me saw a light in a house. Him and I went to it and was refused admitttance. Said they had smallpox but we were so near frozen we went in. Whittaker's feet were badly frozen at that time and he has never recovered so as to be able to use his feet properly. This happened in Knoxville, TN and at the same time he was afflicted with scurvy from the effects he has lost all of his teeth and been otherwise disabled. I believe that during the time since his discharge he has been disabled from manual labor fully one-half the time. My knowledge of this comes from being a neighbor until 1869 and from frequent visits since and letters from the neighborhood and him. This affidavit was written at my dictation by Jordan, J. P. and from no written or painted paper or memorandum." Signed on the front George M. Tudor
Signed on the back John N. Jordan, Justice of the Peace.
George's middle initial was "M". Do yoy have an idea or factual knowledge of what his middle name was?
GRTudor-Madison Co., KY

The website also speaks of a library.
Good luck with your search...
How do we know Laban Turk Austin is a son of William Asbury Austin?

I've seen numerous places in people's family trees where Laban Turk Austin (b: cir 1802, GA) is listed as a son of William Asbury Austin (b: 17 Mar 1776, GA). However, I've not found any document or other resource provided as a reference. I do see a lot of evidence that convinces me that there is a strong connection between the two, but nothing that confirmed a father/son relationship.

Here's what suggests that there is a realstionship:

William A. Austin (1776)
has son SEABORN J Austin (abt 1812)
and has son Allen J Austin
who has a son LABAN TURK Austin (abt 1826)
and has a son SEABORN J Austin

LABAN TURK Austin (abt 1802)
has a son William Jefferson Austin (1824)
who has a son SEABORN JOHN Austin (1855)

Thanks for pondering this - Jeff Austin
WheelbarrowRacers@yahoo.com

I have found a number of cards, registrations, etc. with the name of Earl Leroy Austin on it. They are from Fremont, Michigan and dated back in the 1940's. There are also a few old pictures in there, one of "mother and father" but no names, and one of 4 women. The clothing suggests the late 1800's or early 1900's. One card is addressed to Mr.Mrs. Earl Austin in Decatuer, Ill. c/o James Thompson. I would like to find a relative of theirs to give this all to!

Mary Alice Elizabeth Austin Stapp

I have a source reference to a Mary Alice Elizabeth Austin married a George Washington Stapp. This was found in "History of Boone County, Arkansas" on pages 345 and 346. The book is available at the Family History Library; Call Number 976.718 D3L

When I found this, I copied the pages and now have misplaced those pages. I have another research trip planned in about six months. Does anyone else have this reference available?

Several of us are looking for parents of Allice Austin, married to George Stapp. Does this reference help us? Does anyone know who the parents of Mary Alice Elizabeth Stapp are?
AUSTIN / GORAVIN Ireland 1820-1840

John Goravin was born in Co Sligo on 2 January 1837.
Parents: John Goravin and Bridget Austin.

John, the son, had an older brother, Patrick. Birth date unknown. Both John and Patrick, the sons, were in Yonkers, NY by 1853.

NOTE: Goravin can be spelled many ways; consonants remain the same but the vowels change a lot.

Has anyone seen a Goravin / Austin connection in Ireland??
Family tradition also mentions Galway.

Thanks.

nancykneely at aol dot com
