Some Aylwards in Maine

I have no connection to any of these families. I am just posting info. I have come across while volunteering at the historical society. This is by no means a complete list, only the ones I was able to obtain. I have discovered the hard way that within a certain span of time, if you don’t have the date and place of death, it’s hard to track someone down.

Some of the names that appear to be maiden names may very well be married names and the other name given be the maiden name – at least it tells you a date and place of death – a good starting point. This is all the info. I have on these people although I do have a number of vital record books for the Knox County (Maine) area and would be willing to do a quick lookup or two. I am typing in literally hundreds of these entries so please be as specific as possible if you need a lookup.

Frank E. Aylward died Oct. 11, 1926 in Rockland, Maine. He is buried in the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland.

Grace May Aylward (Simmons) (Davis) died Feb. 21, 1931 in Winthrop, Mass. She is buried in the Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.

Inf. Dau. of Samuel (b. Rockland) & Georgia (Webber) Aylward (b. Ellsworth, Maine) died Apr. 27, 1903 in Rockland. She is buried in the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland.

Raymond Ernest Aylward d. Apr. 12, 1924 in Portland. He is buried in the Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.

Eugene Alyward

Hello Dan,
I am looking for information on a Eugene Alyward who was in the Civil War; in the Union Army. I am trying to track down this recently discovered Eugene Aylward - who seems to be my Great-Great-Grandfather who was either married to or fathered a child named Henrietta /Etta Aleward/Aylward in who was born in Buda, Bureau Co, IL in 1866. Mother was Margaret Gurbaugh who later married a Gilman Heath.
This Eugene was evidentaly born around 1841 - 1843 in Michigan whose father was probably William Aylward married to a Mary Unknown. Sibilings were Napoleon, William and Mary Josephine or Joshephine Mary?
Any direction would be very welcome.

While I see you are researching Alyward in the east coast, I thought that I would try to see if you have run across any information on Aylward in Missouri? I am trying to track down a recently discovered Eugene Aylward born around 1841 - 1843 in Michigan whose father was probably William Aylward married to a Mary Unknown. Sibilings were Napoleon, William and Mary Josephine or Joshephine Mary?

FYI - he was married to Jennie Titus of Rockland, Maine and had nine children that survived him: Samuel B., William E., James P., Frank E Jr. and Louie L. Aylward; Idella B. Smalley and Jessie G. Aylward, all from Rockland, and Charles T. Aylward of Boston and Abraham H. Aylward of Camden. Also survived by a half-sister, Mrs. O.A. Jameson of Portland.

Parents of William Aylward (1818-1884) of Lowell, Mass

I am looking for the parents of William Aylward (b. about 1818 in Nova Scotia) who was living in Lowell, Massachusetts, from at least 1870 until his death on July 6, 1884. His wife's name was Hannah (Johnson?) and they may had five daughters: Mary A., Sarah Mathilda, Arimintha "Minnie", Eliza, and Augusta Eunice. William's death record said his parents' names were James and Mary. Was he the son of James Aylward and Mary Polly, of Five Islands, NS?

Hi Eamon, I have recently seen your posts and hope you can help me. I have a Mary Aylward in our family tree but don't know anything about her. She married James Carty but I don't have a date. Their children were baptised in the parish of Ballyhale and Aghaviller which were one parish at one time. Their first child was born in 1829. The address's given for the children was Newmarket. Some of the sponsors listed were Ned Aylward, Judy Aylward and John Aylward. Perhaps some of these names have come up when you were researching your family. I am a g,g,grandaughter of James and Mary and would be grateful for any help you can give me.

Buffalo Motorist Killed By Trolley on Delaware Ave.
John A. Aylward, 326 East Delavan avenue, Buffalo, died in the Millard Fillmore hospital early this morning from injuries suffered when his automobile struck a street car on Delaware avenue, opposite the police station in the town of Tonawanda.
Aylward’s machine struck the car with such force that it knocked the engine loose from the chassis. Medical Examiner Charles E. Long is investigating.

I am descended from a Michael Aylward b. circa 1840 d. 1915 in Victoria, Australia. He married a Mary Ann Walsh in Ballarat in 1882. His parents are named as John Aylward and Johanna Kosserlo/Cortilla/Costello on different certificates. I have no Parish listed on any of his certificates so i have no way of knowing where to look for his records. I am coming to Ireland next year and would love to be able to go to his parish.

I noted that Prudent's surname is spelled Davis in a couple of records but you are absolutely right that it was David, daughter of Francois David and Francoise Mailet.

I am also descended from this couple. My mother is Patricia (nee Warnock) daughter of Agnes (nee Elward) daughter of Charles Elward (and Emilliene Daigle), son of Sylvain and Prudent(e).

Which of Sylvain's children do you descend from?

Looking for info on Aylwards that lived in South Boston-Cambridge Area. My father was Philip T Aylward born 1912, his father was John Aylward married to Ellen Farrell about 1893. Their children were Phillip, Mary(Aylward) Brown,(mary's husband named Frank Brown, and Henry. There may have been more children. We also believe that John Aylward's father was also named John Aylward. Both John Aylwards were from Ireland.

Nice to contact you. I expect you realize, through Jeannine,
that we all share the same great great grandfather(William Price Aylward). It seems incredible that we have been able to trace the descendants of William's two grandsons who went to America in 1883.
I live in England, not too far from where William was born.
My ancestors have lived here in the South of England for many generations & I have been able to trace them back to the 12th century. They all seem inclined to music so if any of your children are musical don't be surprised.

Hi Donna .. apologies only getting back to you now. James Aylward was my grandmother Ellen's brother and was born in Killeen, Mullinavat, Co. Kilkenny. I am a bit hazy on details of other siblings. There were twin sisters who went on to become nuns in England. I will try and find out more.

Edward James (EJ) Aylward in Cleveland, Ohio

My Bridget Aylward married a John Flanagan in 1839 in Quebec City, Canada.

Bridget was born circa 1818 in St John, New Brunswick and had a sister, Katherine and a brother, Thomas, both born circa 1818.

Did your JOHN Aylward have Thomas as his dad?

My great (8 greats removed) grandfather Alyward was organist at St. Georges Chapel in Windsor. Interestingly, the music talent seems to come out every 2nd generation and I happen to pull the short straw (!). I ended up going to the Royal College of Music in London as a clarinetist in the early 80s.
Also of interest - in the family soemwhere and I'm not sure who has the document now, there was a Jeanette Alyward in the 19th centure who went to the Royal Academy of Music.

My mother's maiden name was Allen and my grandmothers maiden name was Alyward. The family lived in Alton, Hampshire and my great grandfather had a photographers shop. Liss isn't a million miles away from Alton! I now kive in Spain (have done since 1997) and have one brother in Australia, the other in the USA. Chris (the USA one) has carried out a lot of research into the Alyward side of the family and will be of great help to you. I am trying to trace my grandfather's family.

He was born William Andrew Aylward,
20/8/1912, 1d Upper Stockbridge Road, Winchester
to Mary Aylward of Easton

He was later adopted and grew up in Sussex.

So far I have had no luck in tracing Mary, any help would be much appreciated.
