Barrington's were a prominent English family and, date back to before William the Conquorer in 1066. They were also prominent in Limerick, Laois, Dublin, Wicklow, Cork and Wexford. If you have a family tree program, I can send you some info. If you don't, there are a couple of decent free ones on the net.

You can contact me at rosenorm1@gmail.com. There are also several websites I can give you if you are interested. A William Barrington (1799-1865)of Co. Wicklow was my ggggrandfather.

Slainte
Norm Wakefield

The man with 5 sons was my Gr-grandfather James W. Barrington (Yankton, SD). His 5 sons were John (Milwaukee, WI), Samuel Lewis (Sioux City, IA), Henry (Iowa, Chicago, IL), Charles (Niobrara, NE) and Michael (Yankton, SD). Charles Foote Barrington, brother of my gr=grandfather went to Lincoln, NE in 1876. I'd like to tell you we are related but if so, it would have to be farther back, before 1850 in New York. There were a lot of Barringtons in Texas and the Carolinas who I have not established any connection with. Apparently you are related to the Texas Barringtons.

Perry Charles born 7/04/1840 died 7/01/1923 in Guadalupe county, Texas, was the son of James Barrington and Eliza Foreman. James' father was Charles Barrington and moter was Charlotte Garrett. Perry Charles and his brother Manly
were born in Leon Co., Florida. James drowned while bringing his family to Texas. His widow and sons first came
to Gonzales County, Texas and then she brought her sons to
Guadalupe County. Perry went on to marry Lenor Virginia
Anderson and they had my grandmother Buena May, and several
other children. Manly married Louana Person.

I know there are lots of Barringtons but so far have not
connected them to mine. Who was the man who had five sons
and where did they live?

Thanks for answering. Joy
He had 5 siblings, 2 brothers died young and 1 brother went to Lincoln, Nebraska and has many descendants. My great-grandfather went to Yankton, South Dakota and also has many descendants. My Barrington line came out of Erie County, New York and before that Albany.I know there must be more that may be connected that came from New York in the 1840s and 1850s. Tell me more about your Charles Perry Barrington.

I'm sorry that I have no information on Patrick Barrington or Mary Stack. I have, however, seen them referenced as belonging to family trees listed on ancestry.com, so there must be some information out there.

The Barrington's of Limerick (and Co. Clare) seemed to arrive about 1690 in the person of Samuel Barrington who was possibly born in Dublin abt 1649. The Barrington's (some were knighted and some were Barons) were very prominent in Limerick. I would assume that your Patrick is probably related.

If you email me at rosenorm1@gmail.com, I will send you further info and some web sites on Barrington history, both Irish and English.

Norm Wakefield

I'm sorry I don't have any information on the Barrington's of Co. Wicklow, but as you mention that you have a great deal of information on Barrington's more generally, do you have any on the Barrington's of Co. Clare, mostly located in and around Ennistymon before and during the time of the famine. I would appreciate anything you have. The furthest back I can trace this (my) line is to Patrick Barrington, married to Mary Stack, both of whom were probably born in the early 1800s.

Looking for information on ancestry of William Barrington (b abt 1800, Ossory Diocese). He married Elizabeth (Eliza) Oakes (b abt 1805, Ossory Diocese) abt 1826, and lived in Coolkenna Townlands, Co. Wicklow. They had a daughter, Elizabeth (Eliza?) b Feb 12, 1837 d Dec 15, 1912). Griffith's valuation (1839)shows a William Barrington as a labourer on land owned by Earl Fitzwilliam. William may have married a second time to Mary Driver in the mid 1850's

William's father may be of the Co. Wicklow Barrington's or, the Co. Wexford branch. They had three children, twins, Mack and Jack, b. 1917, in New Mexico, and Lucille, b. 1909 in Texas.

I desperately need info about these two people. Mack was born in New Mexico in 1917, and died in 1974 in Orange, CA. Lucille was born in Texas in 1909 and died in Orange, CA in 2002. Was Mack married? Children? Did Lucille have children? Where are these two buried? I have tried many sources, but cannot find burial sites anywhere!

Well, my grandfather, Usarius S Barrington was born in Marlboro, I believe. Born 1851 Died 1919. Buried in Darlington where all of his children were born except for # 1 son, who was born in Marlboro. Could be a connection. I haven't been able to find anything about his parents yet- so who knows.

Thanks for the response though. Let's see what we can turn up.
Michele

This may help you trace since Darlington and Marlboro are so close the two may be connected via Alexander H Barrington or his father (I don't know who he was yet).

Ebenezer Wellington Barrington (My great-grandfather)
Birth: July 3, 1847
Clio, Marlboro, South Carolina
Death: Feb 3, 1929

He was the son of Alexander Hamilton Barrington born 1825 in South Carolina. The story (though I have no proof yet) is Alexander's father was an Ebenezer Barrington, but I have no wife name as of yet.

The following is information on Ebenezer Wellington.

His first wife was Mary Cathrine Dunbar, and their children were
Albert Sidney
Mary Cathrine
James Eugene
Luther Lamar
Alexander Dunbar.

After the death of Mary Cathrine Ebenezer married Martha (Mattie) J Britt and their children were
David Emmett
Robert Carlisle
Susan (Sue) B
Ebenezer Collins
Ollie Estelle (T)
Victor Cedric (My grandfather)
Leon Reginald
William La-Far

Here is a little history. EW and AH were pow's in the civil war and were released in Maryland (I think, need to double check) and walked back to South Carolina after the war was over. They were members of the 26th SC infantry.
EW Barrington lived in both Marlboro and Horry county for a while and farmed if I remember right. His brother was Charles or Charlie and he was a carpenter (I dont have info on any of his other Sib's). This is unfortunately all the info I have at the moment. I have to do some grave site visits soon and get some dates to continue my research. There are several graves in my are for this family and I hope I can get lucky to trace back to the 1700's.

A little legend for you; My father Victor C Barrington Jr (Nov 19, 1926 - October 30, 2008) always told me our first relatives that came to America were three brothers, and they split and one went west, one stayed up north and the last moved south. I don’t have any dates for these brothers yet, but am working on it.
Lewis Barrington, Revolutionary War Soldier from Albany, New York was born in 1745. I believe his forebears were from England but they could have gone to Ireland before coming to this country. I don't know when they came to New York. His first marriage was with Jane or Jannett White. Is Lewis Barrington included in your book?

I have no leads for Usarius.
Other children for Usarius and Lucy- all born in South Carolina are...
My ancestor is Lewis Barrington, born 1745, Revolutionary War soldier and early settler of Albany, New York. His gr-grandson, who was my great-father, was James W. Barrington who migrated from Erie Co., New York to Lafayette Co. in southwestern Wisconsin sometime between 1844 and 1850. He eventually settled in the Dakota Territory, near Yankton in 1878. His siblings were Betsy Barrington Blanchard who went to Republic Co., KS, Charles Foote Barrington, Clay Co., NE, Samuel who was killed in the Civil War at Averysboro, SC, Niles, Lafayette Co., WI who drowned on the Mississippi, and Mary C. Barrington who married a Baker, then Samuel D. Hayes, then a Classon. I do not know anything more about her. Lewis Barrington's son, James White Barrington and wife Abigail had a son, Samuel Barrington who married Amanda Foote, and a daughter Sally who married Giles Peckham. Any connection would be through James White Barrington who was born in 1778. He had 2 step-brothers, Jacob and Lewis II and 2 children Samuel and Sally.
