Calling all Brennan families in NY

I'm looking to obtain as much information as possible about the Brennan families and variations of the name as well from New York. Especially, families in Erie and Cayuga counties.

I'm also looking for information about John the Baptist Church located in Buffalo, NY dating back to 1910. I'd like to obtain church records of members in hopes to connect Brennan families by marriage.

Last, I'm looking for anyone who has Brunner in their tree. I came across a rumor that Brennan might of been changed to Brunner down one family line in order for the family to hide or cousins to marry. I need to prove or disprove this theory.

If anyone from the NY area has traced their line to Ireland or any other countries I'd like to obtain brief information about where the lines goes. I'm trying to locate a similar pattern in order to get closer to a correct line.

I know I have a lot of missing pieces but I'm hoping to get information to fill in a few blanks.

Thanks in advance,
Christine M. Holden

The story in my family is that my greatgrandfather William Brennan stowed away from Co. Down, Ireland and went to live for a time with his uncle George Brennan in Buffalo, who was said to be a sea captain. I have never been able to definitively find George in Buffalo, but records "at home" in Co. Down show he was born in Kilbroney in 1818, the son of James Brennan and Margaret Feran. He is said to have had at least three children James, Sarah, and George. Possibly all of them were born in New York. James might have been married to a Margaret. I don't know anything about them, but I believe I have their pictures.

If this helps at all, let me know. I'd love to be able to track this family down.

What part of NY are your Brennans from? There are tons of them. That would help with your search. My Brennans are from Buffalo, Old first ward. What are the names your searching?

Hi Christine,
My great uncle, Michael Brennan emigrated as a young man from Galway City to New York and is said to have become editor of the New York Sun. I've been unable to confirm this so far. I have a photo of him taken by Saul of 2034 Third Avenue, NYC.
He was the son of Myles and Mary Egerton Brennan (nee Thornton) from Annaghdown, Co Galway. Michael was christened in Galway on 27 March 1870 and his godparents were John Brennan and Honor Cody. His siblings were John, Bridget, James, Patrick, Catherine and Mary. His brothers all migrated to Western Australia where I'm from and his sisters remained in Galway.
Has your research uncovered any New York Brennans who may be connected to the above family?
Regards, John James

I'm not sure of my Dad's history he never really talked about it. He is Thomas Brennan from Buffalo, NY. Married my mom (Shirley Hawkins) also from Buffalo, NY. Then they moved to Ft.Jackson, SC. He has a brother named Dan. My uncle Dan married a fine lady, and had twelve kids. My dad is 66 years old. I never met my grandparents on his side. If you know of this line of Brennan's please advise.

I'm also trying to find my relatives in NY, NJ. My father's name was James Joseph Brennan. His father's name we believe was Edward and mother's name Anna. Edward was born in mid to late 1800s and died around 1930. Anna was born around the same time and passed away in the early 1960s. They had three children: Edward (who was hit by a car and killed in the early 1900s. James Joseph and Peggy (Edithe or Margaret Edithe... James and Peggy were born in or around Fort Lee, New Jersey. All of the above are now gone, and I can't find any information connecting them to any relatives. My father rarely spoke of his family. I had heard there were relatives in Connecticut, but have no other information. If anyone has any information on my relatives, it would be appreciated.
