Anyone researching a BRENNAN in or near Boyle, Co Roscommon, Ireland, 1824. A Catherine BRENNAN married Patrick McDERMOTTROE in Boyle RC Church in 1824.

This BRENNAN family lived in the townland of Copse just outside of Boyle. I believe there are BRENNANS still living there.

Brennans from No Kerry to Connecticut

Still looking to connect with anyone with No Kerry to Connecticut Brennans.

My grandfather (Edward Brennan b@1878) came to Chicago (@1901) from Guhard, Lisselton, Kerry. However we believe another branch (one generation earlier) went to Connecticut. Edward's father was John Brennan, his grandfather was Philip Brennan. Phillip Brennan (b @1810) died in Guhard in Dec 1900.

This Brennan family was not "originally" from Guhard, but from somewhere nearby in No Kerry, possibly Farranastack. Related families Broderick, Sheehy, Horgan, Connor/O'Connor

Any small morsel welcome!

BRENNAN LINE at the Branam Surname Project, Is it YOURS?

A Brennan who is descended from the following line is looking for members of his line who have migrated to America. At the Branam Surname DNA Project we are including Brennan and Brannan members.
Google: Branam DNA click on the Y-Results word tab to see the various lines who are alread represented.

William Brannan, born c. 1843 in Ireland , possibly in Co. Meath. There is some problem with his father – his marriage certificate says it was a Thomas Brannan whilst the Church record says it was a William Brannan. Great-grandfather moved to Leeds, Yorkshire , sometime before 1861

Brennans Doolings Minersville Schuylkill PA

I have a possible Brennan connection.

My family name is Dooling and I know they (James & Elizabeth
& 4 kids) came to Minersville about 1850. They were members
of the St Vincent's church.

In the St Vincent's cemetery this is a Bridget Dooling
buried with the following inscript:

"IHS
Sacred
To the memory of
Bridgett Dooling

A native of Ireland, Queens
County, Parish of Mayo who
departed this life Nov 21, 1859
in the 60 year of her age
May her soul rest in peace Amen
erected by sons Laurence
John & Edward Dooling

Also
Mrs Ellen Brennan
Died Feb 11, 1914"

I am speculating that Bridget came to the US some time after
1845 (at the age of 45) and, if so, her sons were probably
born in ireland. Another speculation, since she wasn't
buried with her husband (and no other Dooling appears to
have been buried in St Vincents, her husband could have died
before they emigrated.

Further speculating, that my Doolings (James & Elizabeth)
were related to Bridget & her husband. Since James &
Bridget's husband (assuming Bridget & her husband were of
similar age) were of approximately the same age, they could
have been brothers. There are other Doolings in the area
that I can not connect to James & Elizabeth and they could
be related to Bridget & her husband.

More speculation, since Ellen died 54 years after Bridget,
it is possible she was Bridgets daughter who married a
Brennan. It seems unlikely that she was not some relative
of Bridget's and with the difference in age, it seems likely
she was the next or maybe even the following generated
(could have been Bridget's granddaughter)

According to the Schuylkill County Vital records Volume 3,
page 392, there is a Michael Dooling buried on Row #20 of St
Kieran's (Kyran's) Roman Catholic Church Cemetery,
Heckscherville, Schulykill Co. Penna with NO DATES OR INFO.

In addition to that, on Row #19 of the same grave yard,
there is a Edward Brennan buried. He was born in Queens Co,
Ireland died Dec 13, 1878 - 80 Years old.

This is just a GUESS. There is a death record of Laurence
Dooling who died in 1852 in Philiadelphia.

I am guess that this might have been the husband of Bridget
Dooling who was buried in Minersville. Laurence was the
name of one of Bridget's children.

The below could be the John Dooling who was the son of
Bridget Dooling buried in St Vincent's cemetery in
Minersville, There ALSO were Brennans in the Regiment.

Forty-eighth Regiment, Company C
48th Regiment
Additional Companies, Bios, Organization & Service

Recruited in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania
Mustered in July, 1861
Tower Guards
48th PA Regiment Co. C

Captain
Henry, Pleasants
George W. Gowen
William Clark

Musicians
James Brennan

Privates
Brannan, Murt
Brennan, Edward
Brennan, William
Brennan, Murt

Privates

Dooling, John

I found a record that indicated that the above John Dooling
died Nov 18 1868 and according to it he was buried in the
Roman Catholic cemetery in Minersville, Schuylkill Co, PA

The problem with Brennan connections is that there are so
MANY of them. The problem with Dooling connections are that
there are so few (and there are about 45 different spellings
that could be Doolings).

Jay Dooling
Looking for information on my husband's family. Michael & Catherine (Kate) Brennan were from Ireland but we don't know where in Ireland. We also don't know Kate's maiden name - she was just listed as Kate Brennan on her son William's birth certificate. They had William Patrick Brennan who was in Danbury, CT (May 18, 1893). William married Mabel Louella Wilcox (b. Dec 26, 1897/98 in Pawling, NY) and they had 4 children: Ernest, James, Raymond & Jeanette. William & Mabel lived on Main St. near Golden Hill and the children attended St. Joseph's School. William was wounded in WWI and died Dec 22, 1951, Mabel died Dec 25, 1974.
Hi I have been posting on some other boards, but I hope I might be able to link up with some connections here.
Maria Brennan would be my great-great-grand-aunt! Her eldest brother Charles John Maybury was my great-great grandfather. I have done a lot of research on my Maybury family so if I can help someone I would love to, or if any one has any info on what happened to my Brennan cousins I'd love to hear. My Aunt remembers visiting Edie Brennan at the Shrubberies in the 1930s.
Regards,
Natasha

Obit: Francis Brennan of Iowa (1916-2005)

Francis Leo Brennan, son of James C. and Elizabeth (Brennan) Brennan, was born October 4, 1916 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
I am looking for any information on the Brennans of Connecticut. John Brennan (b. 1805?) immigrated from Ireland and married Elizabeth Quinlan (b. 1813). They had at least 3 children William J. (b. 1835), John Jr (b. 1842), and my great grandmother Mary A. Brennan (b. 1849). Mary A. married Patrick Sheridan (b. 1841) of Ireland in the 1870's in New London. Any information would be appreciated.

Brennan Origins in Ireland

In the ancient annals of Ireland it is recorded that at least four separate, unrelated tribes chose surnames in the 10-12th century that evolved to become the Brennan name that we see today.
In our DNA Program at Clan Mulvihill, we have been investigating the Genetic Genealogy of the Corca Achlann tribe. This tribe was located in Co. Roscommon for at least 2000 years and was the genesis of the Mulvihill and Brennan surnames from that region.
Our work has shown that the Y Chromosomal DNA pattern of male descendants of the Corca Achlann is quite distinctive, and after evaluating over 30 participants, we are able to identify them with high probability.
If you are interested in discovering your deep roots in Ireland, or identifying the part of the country your ancestors came from, this new technology can be of great assistance.
See our website at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/mulvihill/
to enroll, or contact me for further information.

James J. Brennan, Zanesville OH

Thought I would share this comment from my ancestor's Civil War paperwork. This was said by Brennan supporting his (Clark's) claim:

Ohio, Muskingum Co. in the matter of Ong. Pen. Claim No. 779817 of Lewis J.
Clark. Co. A 15 OVI. On this 20th day of August 1891...James J. Brennan
aged 60 yrs., by occupation a (..aboser?) resident of Zanesville, P.O.
Woodlawn Ave. 9th Ward.

Have known Lewis J. Clark, the claimant personally since 1852 and enlisted
in Co. "A" 15th OVI about the same time he did. To the best of my
recollection and belief said claimant was sound and healthy prior to and at
time of his enlistment.

I well remember the circumstance and fact of the incurrence of claimants
alleged injuries. We were returning to Grafton WV from the fight at Philipi
on a train of box cars (in?) the fore part of June 1861. Claimant was in
the
act of climbing on a car when the engine (which was not attached) came
against the train with such force as to throw him on the coupling bar
between two box cars, and thus both of his injuries were incurred. I helped
to extricate him. I recollect that his hand was severely injured. I think
one of his fingers was smashed. His gun was badly bent, so that, when
teased
about it he said, he could now shoot around the trees. I knew that he was
severely injured but did not know that it was rupture until later. I also
know that he had and complained of (some? same?) and inflamed eyes toward
the latter
part of our service.
Brennan Brothers of Kiltimagh Co. Mayo Ireland

Hi,
I'm looking for info on Michael and Martin J. brennan of Kiltimagh Co. Mayo Ireland. Both were born in the 1890-93 time frame (depending on who you believe) and both came to the US and served in the army in WWI. Michael I have found out a lot about but Martin I'm unsure of. Martin was reportedly KIA and buried in France but can find no evidense of that yet. I have found several Martin J.'s in several Veteran's Cemeteries but again nothing concrete yet. Can anyone help with this? They are to honored in the Mayo Peace Park Memorial in Castlebar AND if Martin was KIA his name will be engraved on the wall. The following is one that may fit but I'm not sure.
BRENNAN, MARTIN J
PVT US ARMY
WORLD WAR I
DATE OF DEATH: 12/28/1946
BURIED AT: SECTION K SITE 18118
LONG ISLAND NATIONAL CEMETERY
2040 WELLWOOD AVENUE FARMINGDALE, NY 11735-1211

Thank-you,
Patrick
(I am searching for members of the first family of my great grandfather, Moses O'Brien (aka Brien) 15 Aug 1826 - 19 Feb 1900 from Ireland (County Wexford Countyy Carlow). I am related to Moses' second family by wife Mary Finn O'Brien.

Moses called Mose immigrated to Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa. There he farmed until he died.

Moses first wife was Bridget Brennan from Kilkenney, Ireland (1832-34 - 1874). Moses and Bridget had 7 children:

Michael, Edward, Richard, Thomas J. (T.J.), Mary Catherine, Mary Theresa (Anna) and Bridget who died at age 10.

T.J. O'Brien was one of the first to move to Omaha, NE from Iowa. He owned a hotel and also an automobile dealership. Most of the family ended up in Omaha except for Moses and his first wife who are buried in Iowa.

Please contact me if you have any information regarding this family or their descendants.

Kathleen O'Brien

Brennan. McElhinney. Mailey. Raphoe Ireland

I'm still plodding along but have recently received some amazing details re my Brennan's and McElhinney's.

Now have Bernard McElhinney born Maghryhan Raphoe 1876.
Elder siblings Susan and James, probably others also.

Bernard married Susan Ward from Lifford Stranbane, (Susan's father was Anthony Ward)
Bernard and Susan had at least 4 children Anthony (Anton) James, Lizzie and Bella.
Susan died in Manchester 1951, Bernard died sometime earlier.

Lizzie married Joseph Walsh and had a son Martin, he was born in Manchester approx 1946.
Bella married John Mailey the son of the owner of the then, only garage in Raphoe 'Mailey's'.

Bernard McElhinney was a Carrier, having carts and held the contract for collecting mail from the railway station for the Post Office.
He also owned property in William Street Raphoe (now the cycle shop and the cafe)
The shop was then a music shop ran by a Connolly may have been known as McElhinney's Music Shop.

The McElhinney's lived in their property next door to the music shop.
My father Alan Brennan (born 1922/4) lived with the McElhinneys in William Street, attended the National School and went to England with them sometime before 1950.

My father's grandfather Thomas Brennan also lived in William Street, probably with the McElhinney's but I have yet to find more details/connections.

I've just learnt that during that time Raphoe was a thriving bustling town, many concerts were held at the Concert Hall, and the town accommodated many travelling musicians.

Thomas Brennan was by profession, a Concert Promoter and Concert Proprietor, he had also been a travelling musician and variety act. I'm wondering if Thomas was responsible for arranging the concerts at Raphoe Concert Hall.
We know for certain that at some stage Thomas arranged showings of early movies in Ireland.

I'm told that last year a man from America was in Raphoe asking questions about McElhinney's and Brennan's from Raphoe, did anyone manage to get his details?
There seems to have been at some stage a McElhinney's and Brennan marriage/partnership which has yet to be uncovered.

Can anyone add further light to the above.
Kindest regards Jackie.
e-mail jackie005@btclick.com

A Brennan who is descended from the following line is looking for members of his line who have migrated to America. At the Branam Surname DNA Project we are including Brennan and Brannan members.
Google: Branam DNA click on the Y-Results word tab to see the various lines who are alread represented.

William Brannan, born c. 1843 in Ireland , possibly in Co. Meath. There is some problem with his father – his marriage certificate says it was a Thomas Brannan whilst the Church record says it was a William Brannan. Great-grandfather moved to Leeds, Yorkshire , sometime before 1861

The Brennans of Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Ireland

My GGGrandfather, John BRENNAN, was born about 1850 in Kiltimagh, County Mayo, Ireland. He was a shoemaker and married my GGGrandmother, Margaret BYRNE, in 1872 in the Catholic chapel in Kiltimagh. John Brennan's father, Thomas, was a "landholder."

John Brennan had a brother named Patrick, who maried Norah or Honor LAVIN (LAVAN?) and had children Bridget, John "Jack" (1879), Norah, Martin, Mary (who later married a JORDAN), and Tom.

John Brennan also had a younger sister named Mary, who "lived in Comdera but got a new place in Castlebar" and was married to a "Tom Paddin Leam." This MAY be Mary Brennan married to Thomas McNICHOLAS, whose children were Patrick (1877), James (1879), Mary (1881), Thomas (1883) and Anne (1887).

Does anyone know this family? I am most interested in the name of the mother of John Brennan, Patrick Brennan and Mary Brennan.

Seeking Michael & Elizabeth Brennan Connection

I am trying to find some connection to the Brennans of NY to my Great Grandparents. I have estimated that my Great Grandfather, Michael Brennan was born around the year 1888. I have no information on my Great Grandmother, Elizabeth.

I recently found a newspaper clipping from a relative that states their 50th anniversary was September 28th but no year. I also found that they were living in Holland, New York which was in Erie Co. It lists their children as Jesse Brennan (my Grandfather), Carl Brennan and a Hardie Brennan of California. The 50th anniversary dinner was at the Town Casino, Buffalo NY. They were married at St. Johns the Baptist church Buffalo, NY.

The Town Casino is no longer there and neither is St. Johns the Baptist so no records are found yet. I was hoping that someone had these names in their tree being there are so many Brennans in NY.

To get records from Buffalo Town Hall is next to impossible, due to the cost which is clearly not affordable at all. I have been unable to find there names in any of the NY Census Records.

Harriett Brennan - widowed sister of Eliza Campbell Warner

Hello! Does anyone know anything about Eliza G. Campbell Warner? If so, please email me!! Thanks!!! Joni

Name: Eliza G. CAMPBELL
Sex: F
ALIA: Liza or /Eliza/
Birth: ABT 1834 in PA
Death: 26 AUG 1881 1
Burial: AFT 25 AUG 1881 Old Camden Cemetery, NJ
Census: 1870 Philadelphia Co, PA 2
Census: 1850 So. Mulberry Ward, Philadelphia, PA Page 93 3
Census: 1880 Camden Co, NJ 4
Reference Number: 337
Note: According to family lore, upon Eliza's death, the children were taken to an orphanage (The Camden Home For Friendless Children) in Camden, NJ by two aunts. Further lore indicates that her occupation was "Washing and keeping house" and that she did so "To keep the family together"

Family lore indicates that Eliza's maiden name may have been "Campbell"

Information from the Camden County Historical Society:
In going through our records which are on index cards for Old Camden Cemetery I found the following Warner's.
Eliza G. Warner - 47 8-25-1881 14 stranger's row Lot 20
George Warner - 9-29-1876 7th. Child's row 44
Old Camden Cemetery is on Haddon Ave. in Camden but you would not want to go there. It is very run down and the Children's Home is no longer there. The cemetery originally was the Quaker Cemetery and as the article says "they let strangers to be buried there", and hence it became Old Camden Cemetery over the years. It is in a very run down part of Camden".

In the 1870 census for Philadelphia Co., PA, listed in the same dwelling but as a separate family is: Harriett Brennan age 49, with family members: Charles age 16 with an occupation of Wood Carver Apren (sic), and Thomas age 10 at school. All born in Penna. At this time (Jan, 2004) it is an assumption that this may have been the widowed sister of Eliza Warner. This assumption is argued because of the age differences between the 1850 and 1870 census records. This person may have been a friend taken in to help with expenses. However, it is this family tradition to be very close and help other family memebers when needed. This will take more investigation.

Father: Michael P.

Mary Elizabeth BRENNAN (also known as Mamie) was born in 1885 in New York. Her father was Patrick BRENNAN and her mother’s first name is Sarah

Mamie, her sister Jennie, and their mother, Sarah BRENNAN were in Ramsey County, North Dakota in the first part of 1906. In March of that year they traveled to Lethbridge, Alberta where Mamie was married to Francis SINGER.

I am trying to find the county in which Mamie BRENNAN was born. It would be useful to see Mary “Mamie” BRENNAN in the 1900 census. The family found in Housfield, Jefferson, New York in 1900 is not the family.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

LeRoy Atkins
Lmatkins@cox.net
The SSDI gave his date of death as July 1975 and his last residence as 19146, Philadelpia. I presume the number is the ZIP or post code. His SSN was 133301664. I know this is a reach but could some kind soul out there locate his grave for me? I live in Ireland and am at a disadvantage when it comes to searching for it. I really don't know where to start given the paucity of my info.
