I have a plethora of Hircocks in my family tree. My Great
Pop, Ernest James "Jerry"
Hircoe was born a
Hircock in
Enfield,
London England in 1896. He told me the family originally came from France. They fled because of
Huguenot persecution in the 1600s. They lived in Northamptonshire for awhile. Eventually (not sure when), my Great Pop's line wound up in
Enfield. My Great Pop's father was Charles
Hircock. He married a lass named Fanny
Eastwick. They had at least 6 children: Ernest, Edward,
Horace, Herbert, Gladys, and Florence.
Ernest married May James, daughter of a wealthy
Bristol man. They had two daughters: Kathleen May (my grandmother) and Betty. They moved to
America in the late 1920s. Due to harassment by unsavoury sorts, they changed the name from
Hircock to
Hircoe. My Great
Pop was the most wonderful & fascinating man! He survived WWI after having two fingers blown off. He also survived a 50 year smoking habit and an appendectomy in the 1950s. He lived to be a month shy of 104! Pretty impressive. I have since received info that this durability might come from the
Eastwick line.
About his siblings: Edward married
Nell Ashford. I have no further info on them. Horace may have married a lass named Ann. No further info. Herbert married Ethel and had at least 3 children: Clifford,
Trevor, and Audrey. They spell the surname
Hercock. Audrey married Ted
Upshall. Gladys married Jack
Bush and had two children: Jack and Mary. Florence married someone with the surname
Bridger & had a daughter
Doreen. Doreen married Ron
Wainwright and had a son named Philip.
I guess that's all I'll divulge for now. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows and/ or is related to anyone mentioned herein! Thank you for reading! :)
