Re: George Brunker, My grandfather

We have 3 generations of men named George Brunker. The 1st George was a basketmaker and father of George, who was a jeweler & married Sarah Godbold in Middlesex, Eng. in 1847. By the 1850 census they immigrated to the town of Eden, Erie Co. N.Y. and baby George was one yr. old, born in N.Y. In 1860 they were listed in the Wis. census, Co. of Winnebago, town of Utica. George was 42, Sarah 36, George 11, Mary 10, William 8, Josephine 6, Reuben 4 & Beula, 2. There were 2 children from a previous marriage: Margaret was 9 in 1850 & James was 8. Believe their surname was Flemming but they took on the name Brunker. The brothers all moved on to other parts of the country. William's obit. in 1919 listed bros. George of Glencoe, Ia. & Albert of the State of Texas. Rueben died on 2-18-1884 & is buried with his parents at Union Jct. Cemetary between Omro & Oshkosh, Wis. Another bro. was reported to be living in Illinois. I hope this helps with your search.

Kathy:

My grandmother was Mabel G. Brunker from Ridgeway, born in 1889. Her father (my great grandfather) was James Brunker, born in 1850 also from the Ridgeway area. He was married to Ann Conley, also spelled Conolly, born 1850 in Ireland, buried in Ridgeway.

Mabel married my grandfather (Dennett B. Hamilton) and they moved to Dodgeville, which is where I grew up. So I have both Conleys and Brunkers as ancestors. Does any of this sound familiar?

Tim Hamilton

I do not know if it comes from Wales, but I was told that the Brunker name meant 'brown bear'. Large families of Brunkers came from Wiltshire originally, there is now a large family of Brunkers in Germany and Australia as well as USA and possibly Canada. Patricia Brunker

I did not know the name of it.
I have a list of his (Samuels) children with a wife by the name of Elizabeth (I think)(do not know her last name).
Frederick Brunker was my great grandfather so that would make
Samuel my gg grandfather. You must me a generation younger
then me. I would love to have any info you may have as I can not seem
to go back any further. Sam's children : Fredrick E. Brunker, born Jan 2 1841, Joseph Brunker, born 1829/31,
John William Brunker born 1826, Sarah Brunker born 1823, Henry Brunker, B; ?, Samuel Brunker, B?, Matilda Brunker, B ?, William Brunker, B? and Frank Brunker, B? Not sure if all the dates are correct. If you can can give me you email address we can do a lot
more talking. Really looking forward for more talking.
Kay
I am also researching the Brunker family and believe my GGG Grandfather was Samuel Brunker born 10th June 1799 in Westbury Wiltshire. In 1848 on the marriage certificate of his son William Henry, his occupation was given as Brewer. Samuel emigrated to America in 1851 with his wife Mary Anne, daughter Anne aged 16 & son Frederick aged 9. they settled in Danbury Connecticut, where he opened an English Ale and Porter Brewery. Frederick was born in Melksham Wiltshire on 25 Feb 1842. This may be the same Samuel you are looking for. Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks Carol Phillips

Hi, I have just seen this posting on the Brunkers from Westbury, UK. I have been researching the Thatcher family, from Somerset, England and have a marriage between an Ann Thatcher and a William Brunker in my family tree. Ann was from Nailsea, Somerset, and they had Mary b.1822, George b.1822 & Sarah b.1823 in Nailsea, then there is possibly another daughter L:ouisa born 1830 in Westbury. I am wondering if they could be the same as your William Alfred & Elizabeth Ann Thatcher? Do you by any chance know anything more about this Thatcher line? It seems like a bit of a coincidence to have such similar names.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Ann Morgan

The (known) children of the marriage were Mary b. 1822, George b. 1822 & Sarah b. 1823. Ann Thatcher was from Nailsea, Somerset and the above children were baptised there, but there is possibly another daughter Louisa b.1830 in Westbury. Do these names mean anything to anyone?

Thanks
Ann Morgan

I am interested in the UK Brunkers. In particulary the ancestors and descendants of William Brunker married to Ann Thatcher b 1898 Nailsea, Somerset.

UK sources suggest they had children George, Sarah and Louisa. Us IGI source which is only as good as the info provided suggest that James Daniel and William Alfred are also children.

Can anyone tell me the source of this link

I am trying to find information about a Sarah Brunker born 1844 she was born in Wallingford Berkshire England. She married a George Church and lived in Kent. He was a draper and politician. They had lots of children Minnie, Alfred, Stanley, Philip, Thomas, Constance, May, Annette, George and Jeanetta. I think the line goes far back to 1796 when James Brunker married a Sarah and they had a son called John. Any information would be of help as my Dad is keen to find out his roots and we have a lovely photograph of them taken in their garden at Avenue House Rochester kent England. Sue

Does anyone have any information on a THOMAS BRUNKER who might belong to our family? Our aunt Mary Katherine Gordon Hughes was married to Thomas Brunker, who is listed as a civil engineer (on her death certificate) and who was deceased as of 1963. Aunt Kitty lived in Littlehampton at the time of her death. We know very little about Thomas Brunker and would like to find out more. We are unable to find any record of any event involving these two people but suspect they may have become acquainted during WWI as she was born in 1892.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nicole, I saw you post on the board, My mom is Mary Josephine Brunker, Jeff Brunker and I are distant cousins (His grandfather Allen Brunker and my great grandfather Patrick Brunker were brothers) My mom was raised in Milwaukee she went to St. Mary's Convent on the Lake...by the Franciscan Monastery, I believe they are retirement homes for religious now. Her brothers were raised in North Chicago (Waukegan). They went to Wisconsin a lot, and I guess Ridgeway was a birth place and burial place for many. I know there are Conley's there in Wisconsin we are related to. (also Folliards) I bet we are cousins! That is not a common name, Brunker, and if they were from Wisconsin, we are probably related. Hope to hear from you! God Bless..Kathy Recicar

I am looking for information on a Sam Brunker, who married an Elsie Harney in KY--probably Nicholas or Harrison County. Elsie was born in Dec 1885 in KY, the daughter of Orville Glasco Harney.

I also would appreciate general information on the Brunker's who lived in the Nicholas and Bourbon Co, KY area in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I saw a recent obituary for a man named Barlow, b. 1924, from Paris, KY. His father was listed as Cray Barlow and his mother was a Brunker. Cray Barlow was my gr-uncle, and I would like to fit these Brunker's into our family tree, if possible.

Thank you!
