Surnames: Burke.
Hi Dave, I assume you know that Fell Timber Creek near Carcoar is where Mickey Burke, the bushranger was from. and his parents were Michael and Brigit ( nee Comfort) who came out to Australia as assisted imigrants from Tipparery in Ireland. I guess John was Mickey's cousin or brother, Mickey lived between 1843 and 1863. There was a James and a Patrick also involved in bushranging. I think Patrick is more from my side of the Burke family.
On the Tipparery immigrant ship details I'll have to check, I did save it somewhere, but from memory it was the William Metcalfe and it arrived about 1838 with at least two adult male Burkes their wives and a few children. And it mentioned the names of the parent's parents too.
I believe all the Tipparery Burkes originally came from Galway, more to the north west of Ireland.
Later on in the 1800's many more Burkes from Tipparery moved over to another town about 50 miles south of Carcoar called Boowarah.
