I'm from Italy and my grandmother (mum's mum) surname was CANE'. I've salways been told this was a Spanish or Bulgarian surname originally from Jewish origins. I've bben looking for news from everywhere, but everything seems so difficult...if you've got this surname and know anything, anywhere in the world, please let me know. I'll answer to anyone.
See you Claudia

Hi Clifton

I have traced back my Canes to Brixham in Devon - Henry Cane born c1781 married to Elizabeth Soper and their son Henry born in Dartmouth in 1803.

Any connections?

If the Shannon River is your ancestral home, then the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com probably has a number of your kinfolk. One O'Cathain/Cain/Cane/Kane/Keane sept held O'Cathain's Castle on the isle of Iniscatha. They are the 2nd biggest group in the Cain DNA project.
