Looking for my great grandmother who's maiden name was May Cane, tho not sure if her last name was spelled exactly this way. She was born in Canada (English) in 1875, not sure of the "english" province. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1880. She married Adam (Henry)Smith about 1894 and lived in Stark County Ohio in 1900. In the 1900 census she shows that her mother was also born in "Canada English" and her father was born in Iowa. She is a huge mystery in my family and I'd love to connect with anyone who may know anything about her and her family!
THX!!!

Re: Cane Family in Newmarket, Ontario

I am researching the Niles family of East Gwillimbury, ONT. Thomas Nathaniel Niles was the son of Thomas Nathaniel Niles and Lucy Cane. When Thomas (the son) and his wife (Margaret Rutledge) died in 1890, their daughter went to live with Cane relatives in Newmarket. William Cane Niles was another son (he was married to Amelia Belfry). Trying to find information about these families and to track down information on descendents of Thomas and Margaret. Thanks.

Re: Anna Cane from Ireland

Requesting advice. I apologize for my lack of experience and knowledge. I am trying to determine if this Anna Cane has already been linked to a family on this board that has more knowledge of her before this census such as her arrival from Ireland. Where would I begin to begin to determine if she is possibly one of my Creek relatives that used Ireland as a cover story? My background is Creek and Cherokee and oral family history plus census records show my families movements along the creeks and rivers of Ga, Al and northwest the FL panhandle that match exactly to the oral histories I heard as a child. I have not yet located any family property links to Milledgeville, but we spent summers there and went for powwows usually disguised as church bazaars when I was a child in the late 1960's and 70's. My Dad was active in the AIM of the70's. Sorry if this is too much information. I have spent hours reading all that I could to try to keep from annoying experienced researchers. Is it possible that Belle Cane and Anna Cane are related? Thanks in advance. Jen

James Marshall, my 4x great grandfather named daughter Rebecca Cain in his will. Based on what is known about her siblings it is possible that Rebecca was born in Maryland about 1780. This matches information given about Rebecca Cane/Cain in the 1850 census for Marshall County.

If anyone knows anything about this family please let me know. They did live in Greene Co., PA around 1810.

His father was William Cane born about 1801 in Buckinghamshire and married to Harriet Baker born about 1810 in Folkington, Sussex.
Cane/Cain in Chester County PA 1800's

Hello: I am looking for any info on the Cane family from Chester Co. PA. during the 1800's. Especially an Elisabeth Cane, 1860 census finds her in Downingtown. She was born abt. 1805 in Lancaster County. I believe Cane is her married name, in 1860 she is widowed. Her daughter Mary J. Cane born in 1847 in Chester Co.. Possibly also had a daughter Margaret (born abt. 1836 in Chester Co.) who married 1st Frederick Wilson (from England) abt. 1858, 2nd. Thomas Hoffman married April 1873 (record of marriage lists her name as "Maggie" Wilson) In the 1870 census, she is marked as being either deaf, dumb, blind or insane. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Peggie Shaw peggieshaw@msn.com
