The New Castle where my father grew up was in Pennsylvania.

He was the 2nd youngest of 10, I think. Cecilia and Ruth were his sisters, one of his brothers was Paul.

Dougherty/Capitola connection

My father's mother was a Dougherty. I believe his father's name was John. He was the 2nd youngest of 8. I still have family in Pa running a/that funeral home.

I would be interested in learning more on the Capitola's from New Castle, PA and where they've branched out to.

My husbands gggrandmother was Melissa Capitola Maxfield. He died and she remarried a man whose last name is Gaar or Garr. She died June,1925 and is buried in the Rose City Cemetery in Portland, OR. under the name of Garr or Gaar. Her father's name was supposedly, D.B. Robinson (possibly Daniel Byron)and her mother may have been a Capitola. I understand that she was Italian. That is all the info that I have.

Sherry,
My Dougherty's are from the Jersy City, NJ
area. The adoption took place in the mid
1950's. Funny old world, isn't it?
Unfortunatly, none of the names you
mentioned sounds familiar.

John

John,
That is a pretty bizarre coincidence. Just curious; are your Dougherty's related to the Dougherty's from New Castle? There was Mary Elizabeth Capitola, Margaret (Marg) Micaletti, Ceceila (Ceil) Wilmarth, and Hubert (Hughie) Dougherty. They are all deceased.
Also, did your adoption take place in California? In the 40's?

Sherry,
Thanks for your reply. It's a funny old world.
I was adopted into the Dougherty family, and Capitola
is my biological grandfather's name. If you have
any info on one Mario Capitola, probably born
around 1910, possibly in KY., that would be him.
Thanks for anything you might have.

Peace,
John

His father,Peter, opened the first Catholic funeral home in New Castle, Pa. Do you think we are related since we have the Capitola/Dougherty conection?
