I am totally confused by this statement in your message:

There is no Dempse, Sr. or Dempse, Jr. above. There is no James above. You seem here to be saying that Dempse,Sr. and James are different persons. In other places you have seemed to indicate that Dempse,Sr. dropped that name and used James.

I don't understand how Michael's great-grandson became Daniel of CARROLLTON. Carrollton was the home of Charles the immigrant and his descendants, wasn't it?
