Hiram Castings

vbradshaw  (View posts) Posted: 2 Feb 2001 8:37PM GMT
Hiram was my ggg-g'father, and I'm descended from his daughter, Mary Jane--sister to Henry and Jess. Mary Jane m. Joseph Beniah Williams, and they had 10 children. It was fun finding some distant cousins to fill in recent information! If you don't have it, I have found the marriage records for Hiram's parents. They were: Hiram Castings and Maria Chapman, m. 2-13-1839 in St. Margaret's Church, Leicester, England. Hiram Jr. emigrated in 1869. It sure is hard to find info on this family! My mother believes the Iowa Castings were LDS. Any truth to that?

You are correct it is hard to find information on this family. My grandfather william castings is the son of harold and bessie castings of woodbury CT. William had 2 sons and 2 daughters with his late wife faith. I have not found any information beyond harold and bessie. can you help? I know of no other castings in RI or CT.

Did Hiram have any kin named Valentine Austin Castings?
He is the farthest back I know of (ggg-grandfather).

I believe he was born in Nottingham, England

Valentine Austin Castings was a "half second cousin once removed" :) to Hiram. The Valentine Austin I have was born Sep 1851 in Nottingham. He married first Agnes Rebecca Eile in 1875 (2 children: Agnes and William); married second Elizabeth Ann Bakewell in 1881 (2 living children: Walter and George). Valentine and Elizabeth moved to Providence, RI. If this is your Valentine, his father was Edward Castings (1823-1894), born and died in Nottingham. He worked in a silk warehouse, then as a grocer's porter, then as a hosiery porter (info from 1851-1891 censuses). Valentine's mother was Hannah (1828-1898). I have three more generations above Edward if you'd like to e-mail me.
