Vester L. Horton, 80, passed away February 8, 2010.

She was born on December 12, 1929 to the union of James and Beatrice Cleveland. She attended Wintergreen Ledges and St. Timothy Baptist Church until her health failed her. She worked for DeMerit Nursing Home and Little Forrest Nursing Home for over ten years.

Vester was preceded in death by husband, Eddie L. Horton; sons, Frazer Trevillion, Clarence Horton, Charles Horton, and Theotis Fitts; daughter, Christine Glass; and granddaughter, Sherita Horton.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Eddie (Pandora) Horton and Robert (Trinka) Smith; daughters, Ilean (Tommy) Mayfield and LaShawn Trevillion; nineteen grandchildren; forty eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, Ohio 44307. Pastor Norman James officiating.
Friends may call at the chapel from 12 p.m. until time of service. Interment Glendale Cemetery.

Procession will form 65 Byers Ave., apt. 706, Akron, OH 44302 and condolences may be sent to 65 Byers Ave., Apt 706, Akron, OH 44302 and 126 Vesper Ave. Akron, OH 44310.

My great great-grandmother was Sophia Russell who married Louis Cleveland. I have copies of her will. They are buried at North Creek, New York, Johnsburg.

Obituary: Jonathan Dale Cleveland

Jonathan Dale Cleveland, the son of Henry and Elsie Beatrice Gilmore Parker, was born July 13, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio. Jerry Cleveland adopted Jonathan giving him his last name as well as the name of the city in which he resided. Everett Brown was Jonathan's stepfather.

Known as "Cleve," Jonathan was baptized June 6, 1971, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Cleveland. He proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and became a confirmed member of the body of Christ at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in May 1980.

Jonathan graduated from Concordia University, Portland, Ore., in 1987, from where he accepted his first call as director of Christian education at Trinity Lutheran Church in Portland. He served Trinity from 1988-1996 and again from 2000-2008. He also attended classes at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.

Pastor Eric Borchers installed Jonathan as the director of Christian education at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Gardnerville,NV March 29, 2009. His duties included working with the Trinity Lutheran Church Child Care Center, overseeing the youth programs of the congregation, liaison to the educational programs in the church and Child Care Center and serving as instructor for the eighth grade confirmation class.

Approved as a deacon in Trinity by the California-Nevada Hawaii District president and the church council, Jonathan was inducted into the office of deacon by Pastor Russell Howen Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009. This office gave him the authority to proclaim God's Word and administer the Sacrament of the Altar in the worship. With Trinity's Praise Team, Jonathan took charge of the Sierra Spirit Worship Service.

Jonathan was a member of the Board for Black Ministry Services of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Jonathan has served as Cub Scout leader, basketball coach, substitute teacher and music teacher. Besides being involved in community affairs, Jonathan enjoyed sports, refereeing, playing with kids, leading chapel, hosting lock-ins, and attending National Lutheran Youth gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jonathan Dale Cleveland died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the age of 46 years, 6 months, and 4 days. Christ has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is caring for arrangements.

My name is Troy Cleveland. My father is Wayne and his father is Harold Judson Cleveland. That is as far as I have been able to find information on my fathers side. They are all from the Windsor / Lunenburg / Halifax area. I do not have a son named Reuben for John Cleveland & Mary (Mollie) McCann. It helps us and hurts us that they all gave their children the same names.

I have the eldest son of John & Mollie as Larkin born in 1848. I also have the eldest son of John & Comfort Gilbert Cleveland as Reuben Larkin and born in 1848.

I have a son named Reuben born circa 1732 to John Cleveland and Elizabeth Coffey, who was dec'd before 1778, when the will of this John Cleveland was proved.

In the early days of my reseaarch (over 40 years ago) have gleaned a lot of my info on these families from the old Cleveland Genealogies compiled in 1899 by two Cleveland cousins, Edmond Janes Cleveland and Horace Gillette Cleveland, tracing the Northern line of Moses Cleveland. Although there is some good info if you can find a source, there are many errors in this publication on the Southern Clevelands.

Having said that I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

In 1850 William L. Cleveland and Thomas D. Cleveland were living in the household of George Keoun and wife Matilda in Anderson County South Carolina. Both were born in Georgia:William about 1834; Thomas about two years later. Does anyone have information on who their parents were or what happened to them after 1850?

Have been researching this "branch". Children Juliette 1810, Benjamin Penfield 1812, Cinderella 1816, James 1821, John 1824, Charles Cook 1828, and Angeline 1831 survived to adult, All but James and Angeline had children.

Live in Pittsford and wondered if the Clevelands residing in two local cemeteries were connected to "my" Cleavelands. Not, but I have much info and happy to share.

I don't think this Will proved in 1823 is the Will of the Alexander Cleveland with wife Sarah Ann Harrison.

This Alexander Cleveland is named in the Will of his brother Eli Cleveland who died in 1829 in Fayette Co., KY.

It will be interesting to see this Will. I have that this Alexander died in probably Harrison Co., KY.

Also to make this more confusing, I have Eli Cleveland, s/o Alexander & Sarah Harrison Cleveland married Lucy George and had a son George b. circa 1808 in Fauquier Co., VA.

I'm stumped by something. In the Edmund Cleveland book (The Genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland Families....), the children of Alexander Cleveland (c. 1744-c.1825, Prince William, VA) and Sarah Ann Harrison are listed as Eli, Levi, Jesse, Harrison, Elijah, Frances, John, William, George.

I found an index listing a will by Alexander Cleveland written and probated in Frederick Co., VA. The index indicates that Alexander mentions only the first five of these children: Eli, Levi, Jesse, Harrison, and Elijah. (The will, BTW, is dated August 15, 1823 and probated Oct. 6, 1823.)

I'm wondering if the other children listed--Frances, John, William, and George--belong to someone else. Could they, for example, be the children of Alexander Cleveland (c. 1712-1776) and Margaret Doolittle's son, James who no one seems to know anything about? Any other ideas?

I've definately seen George's parents listed as Alexander Cleveland and Sarah Ann Harrison. I think the original source for this info. in the book "The Genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland Families."

BUT I found an index for Alexander Cleveland's will in Frederick Co., VA and it only lists Eli, Levi, Jesse, Harrison, and Eijah as sons. (I ordered the original will but have not received it yet. The will no., is #11-489 in Frederick Co., VA, dated August 15, 1823. Probate date: Oct. 6, 1823.)

This would seem to suggest that George might not be Alexander's son. Also the will doesn't mention a son named John, but I was a Revolutionary War pension application that states that John Cleveland in Harrison Co., was George Cleveland's (in Jessamine Co) brother.

Muy confusing, I know.

I have Thomas Collins father as John Collins (1744-1810). I believe that came from a unpublished notebook on the Cleveland Family in Jessamine Co., KY, that is the collection of the Kentucky Historical Society. Not sure how reliable the info. is.

John is also listed as the father of Thomas on this web page: http://www.vaiden.net/collins_descendents.pdf

The same document lists the children of Thomas Collins and May "Polly" Cleveland as: George, Jemima, William Gartner, Mary Ann, George Preston, Hannah M., Margaret Jane, Sarah Elizabeth, and Jesse Thomas. Again, i'm not sure how reliable this is.

Just to complicate things...are we absolutely sure that George Cleveland was the son of Alexander Cleveland and Sarah Ann Harrison? I've never been able to verify the names of their children.

I was confused. I later learned that the General Benjamin Cleveland buried in Habersham Counth, GA was not my Great Grandfather. He is the Grand Son of the Col. Benjamin Cleveland of King's Mountain Battle fame during the Revolutionary War.

My Great Grandfather is Benjamin Cleveland of Stewart County, GA.

I hope this clears up the result of my earlier confusion.

Do you know about any Cleveland connection to Asbury? My great-grandfather was Thomas Asbury Cleveland Payton who was born in 1850 in Dekalb County, Georgia. His grandfather was Cornelius Payton who is Madison Co, Ga in
1820. 1830, 1840. Supposedly they are from Va.

I found your post and you seem very knowledgable about the Georgia Clevelands. My Great-grandfather was Thomas Asbury Cleveland Payton who was born in 1850 in Dekalb County, Ga. I assume that with two family names as given names, he must be named after relatives but I can not find AN Asbury or Cleveland on his pedigree. Was there any famous Cleveland or were the Georgia Clevelands related to any Asbury?

I can get back to Charles G. Schenher d.4/25/1933 (my ggfather). His daughter was Corrine Louise Schenher Smith (d.1988). Other members in the family plot in Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile are:(2) children Francis and Vernon Cornelius, John Joseph Smith, Sr (Corrine's husband) and my dad, Charles Vincent Smith, Sr 1916-2005.

She was born Foxlake Wisconsin abt 1887 to Washington Cleveland and Georgia Eggleston. She married 1919 Francis (Francois) Henroteau. This may have been her second marriage. First marriage was to Mr Scates.

Nellie married a man that traveled from Canada to London to Belgium at least twice (and returned) between 1933 and 1945,

Nellie lived in Canada early in her life. She married a man that traveled at least twice from Montreal to London to Belgium between 1933 and 1945.

Francois Henroteau was his name---born 1889 in France and a resident of Ottowa in 1930's.

Or perhaps mine is a different Nellie Cleveland? Thanks for checking.

Hi Researchers! I am looking for ancestors of the brothers George Washington Cleveland & Jefferson Davis Cleveland. They and their siblings were named after presidents and included John Adams & Andrew Jackson. They did have one brother named after the biblical prophet Malachi. I am only familiar with one sister. Her name was Laura.

All the siblings as far as I know were born in Georgia.

Again, thank you for sharing. I apologize for the delay in responding, spent a couple of days in the Denver VA hospital getting IVIG to establish a counter attack against my immune system that has turned against its host, my body. Nothing serious other than taking precious time away from family history. As we get older time becomes a previous commodity.

I have our tree on Ancestry.com and got a match from DBenson. Hopefully he will see this message I am sending you. On his side of the tree he shows Theodore Keirstead having a son David Hord Cleveland, born 17 Oct 1934, PHL, died 2 Jul 2008, Orina CA, married to Johnson, one child. He doesn't seem to mention Janet.

Deceased Name: Theodore K. Cleveland

A memorial service will be held tomorrow in Berkeley for Theodore K. Cleveland, a longtime official of the Bay Area Air Pollution Control District, who died in Berkeley on Sunday at age 85.

Mr. Cleveland, a native of New Brunswick, Canada, earned his doctorate in chemistry from Yale University in 1925. He joined the Philadelphia Quartz Co. as a research chemist in 1929, was transferred to the firm's Berkeley operation in 1936 and rose to the position of vice president.

He served on the advisory council of the pollution control district from 1960 to 1970, then served eight years on the district's hearing board.

A member of the American Chemical Society and editor of the society's magazine for 30 years, Mr. Cleveland was presented the society's Walter B. Peterson Award in 1983.

Mr. Cleveland was chairman of the church council of the Northbrae Community Church in Berkeley for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Maud, of Berkeley; a daughter, Janet Harmon of Anaheim; a son, David of San Diego, and five grandchildren.

The service will be at 7 p.m. at the Northbrae Community Church, 941 The Alameda, Berkeley. Contributions are preferred to the church or to the Boy Scouts of America, Mount Diablo Council, Walnut Creek 94596.
