The original web page is still there at http://jeanclem2.tribalpages.com. It contains pictures only.

All of you are cordially invited to view what is there. I am not sure which picture belongs to which family. The first 4 are of a tin-type nature. The rest are on cardboard. I am guessing on the dates between 1870 - 1900, give or take 5 years.

Fr. Dennis B. Collins

Collins, Rev. Dennis B., Winfield, was born in Ireland, November 7, 1861. A part of his education was received at the Jesuit school, in Limerick. He worked in a newspaper office in Cork, and while yet in his boyhood he came to America, where ambition has a greater field and labor a greater reward.
Angelina, or Mercedes or Mary Collins

My greatgrandfather married Mercedes Collins and his cousin, Samuel, married her twin sister Mary. The Collin family was from New Orleans, or possibly St. Tammany Parish, LA.

In Oct. of 1898, Angelina dedicated a new Catholic cemetery in the area. I have a copy of the registration record.

I am seeking possible Collin kin from N.O. or St. Tammany area. Any ideas.

I am the g.grandaughter of Mattie Bell Collins Murdoch, born 02-24-1890. There was a total of 13 children in this family - the only name I know of is her sister Alice. They were farmers & harvested tobacco. She married a Joseph Murdoch(k) and moved to Roanoke, VA. Joseph supposedly died and she moved back to the Swansboro / Maysville area with her 2 children, Joseph & Francis, in the late 20's. She then moved to Chicago in the early 30's and then to Rock Island, IL in the early to mid 30's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The family history has been very secretive and I have not been able to find any information. Thank You

Collins Family in the USA

Recently I have received request for information on my Collins family but no email address was provided so that I could reply. I cannot contact you using your Ancestry identification. My family is as follows

Ross L. Collins (1920-1976) m. Virginia B. Cole (1919-2002)
Ross F. Collins(1896-1983) m. Pauline Livingston (1897-1976)
Carl F. Collins (1871-1943) m. Mary A. Garth (1872-1900)
Theodore W. Collins Jr. (1843-1928) m. Ernestine Johnson
Theodore W. Collins (1801-1894) m. Mary Tweed Evans
Nathaniel Collins (1776-1831) m. (may be Nancy Wilson)

Some family records say that Nathaniel Collins's father was Eli Collins and Eli's father was a Thomas Collins married to Margaret. These records says Thomas was born in 1710 in Scotland and that he came to the USA in 1735. An older Collins cousin says that she seems to remember being told that Eli died young and that Nathaniel was raised by his grandfather, Thomas.
I would love information on Eli and Thomas. I do have information on Nathaniel and the family to the present. If you want me to contact you, please give me an email address. Thanks. Mary Collins

Male Descendant of Moses Collins Needed

Hi! My name is Tamara Hogshead. I am a 4th great-granddaughter of Moses Collins. He is one of the Collins men who was known as Melungeon. He was born in N.C. (Wilkes Co.?)approx. 1774 and died in 1860 in Powell Valley, TN. He is found in 1810 in Grayson Co., VA listed as "mulatto" and again in Grainger Co., TN in the 1830 census as "fpc". He was bondsman at the wedding of Allen Collins, born 1802, who was the son of Vardy Collins. His son, Mathew C. Collins was my 3rd great-grandfather. Moses was married to Ann/Anna Botts b.1775 in Wilkes Co.,N.C. Their sons were: David Collins, b.1790 in VA., Alexander Collins, b. 1795, Moses Collins Jr. b. 1796, Mathew C. Collins, b. 1808, Joshua Glenn Collins b.1811, Thomas Collins, b.1823. If anyone is a direct male descendant of any of these sons of Moses, please contact me by email at: kentuckyborn62@gmail.com I am hoping to find this male descendant to have simple DNA testing done to determine the Y-DNA haplotype of Moses Collins. I will cover costs for the test which would be through Family Tree DNA. Thank you.
Tamara Hogshead

Jeremiah T. and Mary J. (Connors) Collins, Ireland to Massachusetts

Jeremiah T. Collins was born about Jan 1853 in Ireland. He may have traveled to the U.S.A. as a single man, and then met and married Mary J. Connors, also born in Ireland about 1855.
Or they could have married in Ireland and traveled as a couple. They lived in the Boston area, mainly Charlestown, and had three children that I know of: John Dennis Collins, born June 1878; Francis Jeremiah Collins, born 27 Nov 1879; and James Joseph Collins, born 1883.
I would appreciate anything I can find about this family.

about which exact Thomas Collins married Abigail Barbee
Virginia Hanks 908 E. Seattle Ave, Ellensburg WA 98926-3917 has
35 years of Collins data on paper family sheets. But she's 85 and
doesn't do computers; so I am putting a little of that on
http://wc.rootsweb.com
I haven't computerized many of her documentary sources yet. But
you might want to write to her about how different her compilation
looks from yours. My preliminary summary of hers at:
This is Mrs. Hanks' ancestry of which groom named Thomas Collins
md Abigail Barbee
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-
bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=townsendthos&id=I2721
and for completeness, This is Mrs. Hanks' ancestry of which groom
named Thomas Collins md. Elizabeth Barbee:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-
bin/igm.cgi?op=AHN&db=townsendthos&id=I2497
And her compilation of the wives of the son Thomas Collins, son of
above Elizabeth Barbee and Thomas Collins--i.e. That son is the
Thomas Collins sometimes compiled as the husband of Abigail
Barbee, but for whom Mrs. Hanks compiles the first wife as (instead)
named Nancy (or Ann) Garland, daughter of James Garland and
Mary Bice, who died 1781 in Abermarle Co VA, after which death
that Thomas Collins md Susannah Wallace 1782 there in Abermarle
Co VA
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-
bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=townsendthos&id=I2623
So far on database townsendthos at http://wc.rootsweb.com
I've only had time to post general summaries of Mrs. Hanks'
documentary sources.
I'll try to list some more specific documents here, but I'm only a data
entry person; so you'd find out much more by writing to Virginia
Hanks 908 E. Seattle Ave, Ellensburg WA 98926-3917 :
Her specific SOURCE (1):
page 112 of newletter "Calling All Collins-Collings" Second Quarter
1994 where Sue Nite Raguzin begins: "Barbee Collins (4 Jan 1774 -
15 jun 1843) was born in Albemarle Co VA and died in Franklin Co.
TN, buried in Keith Family Cem., on Bean's Crk., Franklin Co. TN. His
parents were Thomas Collins II and his first wife Nancy Ann 'Abby'
Garland. Barbee [Collins] was married 24 Jun 1795 Madison Co. KY
to Mary Woods..." two of Barbee Collin's children are compiled as
having middle names GARLAND.
---------------------------------
Her specific source (2): Spotsylvania County Records by Crozier
[see below for perhaps a more accurate citation]. I happened to
xerox page 192 of that book but that isn't probably the most relevant
page.
------------------------------------
Her specific source (3): Orange County, Virginia Families by William
Everett/Everette Brockman page 32 onward. and 2 other Orange Co.
VA books by same author.
----------------------------------------------
Her specific source (4) Family group sheets sent 27 Feb 1990 and
that era by Sally Black, PO Box 633(also says 639 but not in Sally's
handwriting), Ennis MT 53729
-------------------------
Her specific source (5) Mrs. Hanks mentioned the county records of
Essex and King&Queen Co. VA seen in books abstracting those,
used in our Kittitas Co. WA gen soc library
------------------------------
Her specific source (6)
A long list of individual county records cited from abstract books
listed 28 may 1987 by Beverly Conolly 19000 Muncaster Rd,
Derwood MD 20885
a few of the hundred or so citations
Jefferson Co Va order book for 1820 pp. 320-330
Burke's landed gentry 1939
History of Caroline Co VA by H. VA
[many specific Collins surnamed deeds cited, without page numbers
of where in book] apparently they are arranged by years: e.g. 1751-
1794
Will Abstracts of Orange County [VA] 1778-1821 by Ruth L And
Sam Sparacio page 148
similar abstract book for 1821-1838 pages 6 and 143
Lyman Chalkey [?referring to Cocke Co TN history book?] Vol II
page 266
many Morgan Co.
Seeking Benjamin C. Collins

My 2nd great grandmother Mary's death certificate lists her (step?) father as Benjamin C. Collins.

Mr Collins had a son Charlie who lived in Brooklyn, NY. Might have been from his first marriage.

I think Mary's mom's first name was Philinda, but I dont know her maiden name.

Mary married (Alfred) Maurice Muller and lived in Union, Bergen Co, NJ in 1880. I believe she was born October 1845 in Indiana. Her birth parents were both born in IN as well, per the census.

Her other siblings (some half or step) were Ed, Robert, Jerry, and Al. Some lived in the NY/NJ area.

Any help would be appreciated, as I cant find anyone in the census except Mary after she was married.

Virginia Hanks' decades of colonial Collins research: initial first-draft of descendancy tree
now posted at:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...
(many lines continue downward if y'all click on a descendant there)
=========================
from 1630's onward, a line of Collins of Isle of Wight Co. VA to King and Queen Co. to Orange Co. and Spotsylvania Co. VA, & often to KY
------------------------------------
Mrs. Hanks' colonial VA-KY Collins tree was just computerized by me, but the critical documentary notes will take years to complete. So in interim you can write to Mrs. Hanks at 908 E. Seattle Ave., Ellensburg WA 98926-1299 or if necessary (less directly from the horse's mouth, and much more secretarial busy-work for me) I can relay some of correspondence, back and forth from my (Warren Forsythe's)email at genealogy126 (at) fairpoint.net
--------------------
Her descendancy is widespread, but some of her own especially close surnames are landrum, childers, lewis and jones
