Alice P. (Doyle) Conn, 71, of Turtle Creek, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010. She was the beloved wife of Paul David Conn; loving mother of Paul D. (Cathy) Conn Jr., of Turtle Creek, and Patrick Conn, of Henderson, N.C.; and wonderful grandmother of Paul T. Conn. Alice was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Doyle and David Doyle. Alice retired from Wilkinsburg Lifecare Hospital and was also a Turtle Creek school guard for many years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., at the corner of Shaw and Triboro Avenues, Turtle Creek, 412-823-1950, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. I am the great grand-daughter of Jasper Warren Conn, his son Harry Robert Conn is my grandfather. I have Jasper's DOB as Feb 17, 1831 in Indiana and death May 31, 1904 in Yates Center, KS. (I have his father as John Conn of Steubenville, OH and mother of Elizabeth Champer of Baltimore, MD her death of 1873 in Johnson County, They had ten children; 2 died and other 8 are Elizabeth, Frank, Ellen, Jasper, Emily, Mary, Helen, and John.) I show Jasper's first wife was Mary E Hutton and their children are Alpha, Ida, Frank, and Maggie. His second wife was Ellen Donnelly and their children are Harry, Willie, George, and Johnnie. I am constantly coming to dead end trying to find info on Ellen Donnelly. I know she was born in Ireland, came to America at very eary age. He parents are Dimmick Donnelly, born in Ireland-Scotch ancestry and Jane McDougal born in Scotland. I don't have alot of dates for any of the children. If anyone has info I would love to share. Edward CONN was the son of Hugh CONN Jr., son of Rev. Hugh CONN of Prince George's Co. MD. Hugh Jr. (1725-1772) was married twice; Edward was born in Loudoun Co. VA, a son of second wife Mary TRAMMELL. You should be able to find a great deal of information on the Rev. Hugh CONN and many of his descendants.

They were married 13 Nov 1829 Meade Co., KY I have a copy of the original marriage record. Lucinda's parents were Edward Conn and Fannie Daniel, Davis' parents were William Murphy and Elizabeth Davis. My gr gr grandmother was Lucinda's daughter Mary Murphy who was married to Thomas J. Renfrow.

According to an old man (born 1902) now deceased, visited the Conn cemetery as a boy. It was located on top of a ridge over half a mile back in the woods with five or six graves.
By the early to mid 1900s, fires, storms and logging had destroyed all traces of the cemetery. It was located again in Aug 2008 along with the old house place next to it.

I just saw your post here, and you've probably already discovered this fact, but James Conn (with the Varner connection) isn't the Robert/Alexander Conn family. Robert Conn arrived with part of his adult children in 1820, including his son Alexander. Robert's son James arrived in 1825 with his own family. Alexander married Mary Ann Dodds from Athens County. Alexander and Mary Ann are my 3-great grandparents.

Betsy, I found some information in the Verticle Files at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort. Much of it you already have, but maybe there is a hint of something new for you here.

The file was prepared by George Bleimes, 26 Nov. 1989. Unfortunately, George did not provide any contact information or source information. He wrote:

A letter in the file is dated 5 Nov 1976 from the Kentucky Historical Society to Mrs. Ralph Bridge, Juda, Wisconsin. The letter is requesting Mrs. Bridge, a member of the KHS, to submit a query on the Douglass-Conn line.

Also in the file is a copy of an original Bible record that shows:
"Archd Conn and Elizabeth Lowery married Oct. 16th, 1787"
"Jabue(?) Tharp(?) and Olivia Conn was married April 2_, 1850(or 1859)"
"Mary Ellen Conn born(?) April 26 1850 (daughter(?) Archibald and Susan)"

Sorry, this is very difficult to read. If I am not sure of the information, it is followed with a question mark.

In another letter, Mrs. Ralph Bridge of Juda, Wisconsin wrote in November, 1976, presumably to the Kentucky Historical Society:

"I am the great granddaughter of Archibald CONN, Jr. and Susan DOUGLASS CONN. I have a complete history of their ten children.

Archibald CONN Jr., b24 May 1803, possibly Chester County, PA, d. 15 April 1878 in Juda, Green County, WI. Buried Juda.

Susan DOUGLASS b 18 June 1808, VA? KY? d 8 Nov 1878 in Juda, WI

Archibald and Susan m. 1830 in Cynthiana, KY. (Have m. certificate) Have Arch. and Susan's family Bible, also death notices for dates.

Archibald was son of Archibald and Elizabeth Lowery? Savory? Lavory? Savoy? m in 1787, where? They appear in the 1790 census for Chester Co., PA. Several of their children were in Steubenville, Ohio in 1856-67 city directory."

The letter goes on to talk about Susan and Archibald leaving Kentucky in 1834, etc. There is nothing more about the elder Archibald. Mrs. Bridge added a hand-written note mentioning tintypes, but does not say that any of her tintypes are of CONNs. It is possible she may have allowed the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort, or the Filson Library in Lexington, to copy her tintypes. I have found original tintypes at the Filson of my family (not the CONNs), so this would be worth checking since Mrs. Bridge apparently was a member of the Kentucky Historical Society in 1976.

Perhaps there is nothing new here for Archibald researchers, but I couldn't let it go without passing it on.

If anyone needs to know the rest of the contents of this letter, I'll be happy to type it.

If any Archibald researchers want a copy of the Bible record, let me know and I'll send a scan.

I am searching for information about Charles Conn, who died in Hamilton Co. OH in 1808. His widow, Martha "Patty" Conn married James Ewing on 10/30/1808. James Ewing was a Justice of the Peace in Hamilton Co., OH and this family may have relocated to Jeffersonville, Clark Co. IN by 1820.

Charles and Martha Conn had at least two sons, who conveyed property though Charles' estate: James and Joseph Conn. Joseph's wife was named Nancy. James may have married Hannah Huldus in Hamilton Co. OH 11/18/1817. Also mentioned as a niece of Charles is Sarah McGill Conn. She married Gabriel J. Floyd in Hamilton Co. OH on 11/30/1817. Joseph Conn appears to have died on 8/12/1815.

This is kind of late in responding but I just found your message today. My g.grandfather was Henry Conn. He lived in Keokuk, Iowa and as of the 1880 census was married to Maddie Elanore [White] Conn. Henry was born on 24 July 1840
in Lanark, Canada - Ontario. His father [name unknown] was from Ireland as was his mother. Henry's family consisted of son Joseph and daughter Grace [my grandmother]. Henry moved to Boonton, New Jersey with his son Joseph who owned a manufacturing facility there..Henry died in Boonton and was buried there on 11 May 1915. I was not familiar with the Hancock County connection - nor a brother. Any and all information you could give me would be very much appreciated.

Your query caught my attention and I attempted to find any link between Tima D. CARTER (or Tiny D. as she appears in one census record) and the well-known CARTER family of Southwestern Virginia. I was not able to find a connection.

Living nearby are three apparent brothers of Robert CARTER: Elisha CARTER, age 28, James CARTER, age 39, and William CARTER, age 30.

Pleasant D. CARTER above is the patriarch of the singing CARTER family and his full name is actually Alvin Pleasant Delaney CARTER. He married Sarah DOUGHERTY. Maybelle ADDINGTON, another CARTER family member married A.P. CARTER's brother EZRA CARTER also listed in the census above.

All of the CARTERs in this family were born in Virginia as were their parents.

There is a WorldConnect tree that includes the singing CARTER family line and, while it uses Ancestry's OneWorldTree as a "source" for the information and this is NOT a source to be used without verification on your part (or mine) the tree does appear to be backed up by the census data above and by what I found on Wikipedia about the CARTER family. Wikipedia info also requires verification--but all of this data seems to support the other sources nicely.

Ora Conn 1890-1963 and Pearl Miller 1892-1983

Looking for relatives of Ora Conn and Pearl Miller.Ora Conn's father is listed as John David Conn 1842-1880 and his mother is listed as T. Carter 1847-? I have no info on Pearl Miller's family. Any help would be greatly appriecated. They have a daughter who's name is Aleene Conn 1914-1999 who was married to a Truman Lidster 1915-1971. They also had children named: Ralph, O.C., Marie, Cathy, and Lorene. Please if any one could help further our knowledge and help us expand our family tree. We would thank you very much. Also this family is somehow connected to the June Carter Cash family and we would love to know more about it.

I am Janet Windham-my Mom's maiden name Conn. I have visited Conn's Creek church and cemetery. My niece got married near-by and we found it by accident. We are from Mississippi and Joseph is my ggg-grandfather. His four children were John T,James Carter(mine) Walker Green, and Margaret Allis. He did not have a son-Samuel. Maybe a brother-Samuel, JOseph, John and Thomas. William Conn has worked on this and I have not talked to him in a while. Joseph was born in in Abbeville County, SC and moved to Attala Co. Ms 1827-1832 I've not worked on this for a while but I will call William when I pass through Memphis this weekend.

In 1834 a Morgan CONN was in Franklin Co. TN in association with an Oliver J. CONN, b. abt 1804 in VA. Also in Franklin Co. TN at an earlier date were Josiah CONN Jr. and John Elson CONN, sons of Josiah CONN, son of Hugh CONN Jr., son of Rev. Hugh CONN. Oliver J. CONN remained in Franklin Co. TN, while Morgan CONN appears in the 1850 census of Greene Co. MO, Finley Twp:

Morgan CONN, 36, b. TN; Ritta, 33, b. TN; James E., 16, b. TN; Mary A.E., 15, b. TN; Matilda E., 13, b. TN, Nancy E., 12, b. TN; Eliza R., 9, b. ARK; Ritta J., 5, b. MO; Morgan M., 4, b. MO; William P., 1, b. MO

Both Oliver J. CONN and Morgan CONN named their first sons 'James', a possible clue to their parentage. Assuming that they're brothers, they could also be sons of John Elson CONN and his unknown wife, but only if the age group for Morgan is wrong in the 1820 White Co. TN census:

John E. CONN 1 m 45-up, 1 f 26-44, 1 m 16-25, 1 m 10-15, 1 f 10-15. If the younger male is Morgan b. abt 1814, he should be in the 'under 10' bracket unless he's lying about his age later. John Elson CONN gave his age as 72 in 1850, indicating a birth year of 1778, so his age bracket is wrong in 1820 - he would have been only 42. You just can't take those census ages as accurate!

Hi, they are on the 1860 census but the name is M.G. Cown. and Retta's name is spelled Ritta. I am sorry I don't have anything else back that far. My husband is decended from their daughter Retta Jane, (Jane R. Conn) born in 1844. Hope this helps. Sharon
